Player Movement Lag & Animation Stutter|Something for BIS Devs too!
tacticalnuggets replied to megagoth1702's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
They will probably give some reason why they cant change it, possibly an engine "limitation", this happens very often. But in reality what they are trying to say is, we have a lot on our plate and I don't think we can handle this. I'm sure the community would except such an answer. -
That is why your post contradicted itself at every turn, and why it was terribly out of place in this thread. And why I had to say something when you were generalizing all of our opinions and motives. But i guess I generalized yours in turn, so I apologize.

Player Movement Lag & Animation Stutter|Something for BIS Devs too!
tacticalnuggets replied to megagoth1702's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
If i'm aware, arma2 still uses udp protocol, right? -
Are you honestly saying that you want arma to be non user friendly on purpose? That has to be a joke, i mean, keep the gameplay sim, but don't champion complexity in the multiplayer and mod interface, it just doesn't make any sense. Its actually a spit in the face to the majority of people that struggle with setting up their client. Its the very highest level of elitism i've seen on this forum.

Would you be interested in short instructional videos of game types.

Many people agree that the main problem for low mp numbers is addon diversity. BIS is implementing a addon management and maybe some kind of download system if i recall correctly.

Daytime thermal use - 'cheating' ?
tacticalnuggets replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Whats up with people who are, on purpose, not being critical of obviously problematic portions of the game? Its like, an incredibly hot women with a big spider bite on her neck and your not going to say anything lol -
Daytime thermal use - 'cheating' ?
tacticalnuggets replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The sun, and the air temperature being hotter results in a dark spot in your vision for something with a lower temperature than it. thermal is only good in colder environments during the day. So if something is 100f then it gets really hard to spot them. anything in the 90's temperature wise for air would make it VERY difficult to spot them with thermal, even in a grass field. Air emits infrared energy as well. -
Support from BI for MP is extremely poor!
tacticalnuggets replied to 75th-VFS-Striker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I wouldn't take what he said in a bad way. It is true that BIS has great support compared to most companies, but its support for multiplayer has been very poor up until now (they are fixing stuff now). Most of the features and fixes have been for other parts of the game. The game excels in single player and the editor, but multiplayer is definitely poorly supported. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging this. -
Just keep spreading the message and join the multiplayer revolution. Our numbers are strong and BIS is starting to get the message. Download solutions are a work in progress for there next update. This will take care getting custom content required by the servers, with some addon management as well i heard too. Just don't be too mean about it, keep a relaxed but serious message. And most of all don't break the rules, because how are you supposed to spread the message when you are banned? Just some advice.

Player Movement Lag & Animation Stutter|Something for BIS Devs too!
tacticalnuggets replied to megagoth1702's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
The problem is the multiplayer code in arma2 is very old and often overloaded with the amazing amount of game content that is streaming between the client and server. If I recall, arma2 also uses udp handshaking still? Anyway, a combination of these things makes arma2 an overloaded game in multiplayer causing lag, stuttering, and frame rate problems. And if you run a big mission, all these things get amplified. Infact, the primary reason for not having body physics in arma2 is not because your cpu cant handle it (although, it would be a lot more load), but mostly because the multiplayer environment can not handle it. Many of the developments from ofp to arma2 have been unevenly distributed, so things such as multiplayer are very under-developed. Just now are they getting to it, as i have heard, and am very excited for, mod management and downloading solutions. Its better late than never. -
What do you mean by "a game like Arma 2"? Is it not supposed to be popular online or something? Sounds to me like you have this idea stuck in your head that few people like this game. Many people like the game, but everyone is having trouble playing multiplayer, so they give up. Should I start a list of people that find the multiplayer bare bone and partially broken? Because that very well could be 75% of the people that play ArmA2. We have argued in the past about this, and my point has been proven time and time again. So I ask very politely... Will you join the multiplayer revolution?

Free Zoom vs Spotting Soldiers in Concealment
tacticalnuggets replied to Tangox5's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This thread is spot on. Although you can tilt your head forward, the degree to which you zoom in ArmA2 is plain insane. I think a better alternative to zoom is sharpening lods. There are many times that zooming in gives its benefit not just from looking closer, but from seeing more detailed models. Replacing zoom with something that will up the quality of things at a distance in a circular center of your screen, then blurring everything around it would give the same affect of intense focus in real life! And I'm sure its 100% possible. Its a very exciting idea, but I'm into multiplayer mission scripting, not addon making, so I dont know how to start and if its even worth trying to attempt due to addons only being used by a few people. -
Wow, i guess some peoples ideas of busy are very rural. There is a point when people are basically lying and not just having an opinion. But for ArmA2's sake, it would be wise for me just to agree with you; too bad I'm not wise... :j: ---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 PM ---------- You organized the servers by most populated. As you can see, there are very few globally, and even fewer that you can play on, and even fewer that are not running some kind of coop.

Dam when will DI optimize towns and cities
tacticalnuggets replied to lostatneverseen's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I agree although some issues are kind of trivial, such as driving on roads. But to explain to everyone that you CAN have big cities, decent amounts of detail, and a good frame rate, just download baghdad iraq. Its possibly the biggest city map i've ever downloaded, with pretty damn good detail for its size, and runs great. -
What happen to those 80 peep Team vs Team PvP servers?
tacticalnuggets replied to Eotore's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I just cant agree. I mean, smaller servers tend to work better together, but why not more servers with people on them? OA is our only hope in not screwing up again. So hopefully BIS will get to work on the mp engine asap. -
ArmA2 needs a multiplayer revolution. Something that will get people online again. Something that will make it easier for people to play arma2 multiplayer. ArmA2's multiplayer engine is too old to handle all the new features in the game. You may feel the need to flame me for being so critical, but any arma2 player can see that there is a numbers problem online. So I ask to respectfully show your support to get multiplayer numbers back up.

Multiplayer Revolution
tacticalnuggets replied to tacticalnuggets's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
How did you know I was creating a mission? He he. But the point of this thread was not to create a mission, just to get people to voice up and join the "revolution", because despite there being many people who are voicing up, there is not enough and the damage continues in arma2. Oh, and my mission is going to be PVP, a new type of zone pvp that is dynamicaly generated by the players (zones and fortifications). But I'm not going to say anything else cause i'm going to be busy working on it this summer. Biggest thing when making missions is to have all special features scripted and not addons to increase compatibility. -
Which recoil model do you prefer?
tacticalnuggets replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I like the new one, it adds more skill to aiming. But both are automaticaly better than the original arma 2. I cannot stress enough that aiming is a skill that is learned, not done automaticaly. -
What happen to those 80 peep Team vs Team PvP servers?
tacticalnuggets replied to Eotore's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Its not the people who play online, its arma2's outdated multiplayer engine and interface. Nobody is going to spend an hour of there time finding and downloading and setting up mods and addons to join an empty server to wait for more people to do the same. And please do join the multiplayer revolution. We need to fix this element of ArmA2 so everyone can enjoy such a great game. -
questions about groups and multiplayer
tacticalnuggets posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
So if I make a group completely playable in multiplayer, once somebody has joined that group I can always have a variable point to that group, right? I've found that in ArmA2 when someone dies they are still apart of that group, and when everyone dies, the group is still there and everyone is apart of it. But what I'm trying to figure out is if a guy joins a group then quits will the variable pointing to that group be the same, or will the group be deleted? And if a person joins again in the same group slots (in the lobby) will he be in the same group? I need to know this because I'm going to be using groups to store variables in multiplayer and provide group dependent features. Its poorly documented currently. -
Just a warning, post process can eat a lot of frames. On my comp, area where i get 72fps, enabling pp drops it to 50. So it can eat a lot fps, but if you really need it for some reason then ok i guess. IMO it makes the game look worse in a sense everything is blurred. I much prefer the game without it on.

turn off post processing and put shadows at high. AF usually has no affect on my system, so try boosting that IF you can.

Black Lake water is not acting right when you shoot it. Basicaly, lake water doesn't seem to be effected by gunshots, and only the ground underneath for some reason. The ocean seems fine. -
A thing I've noticed with antialiasing
tacticalnuggets replied to Zorg_DK's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
This is a very weird problem that I think is a symptom of another problem that has to do with rendering things that shouldn't be rendered. Hopefully they are working on a fix for it.
