They used M249's, not minimis, the main difference being the heat guard on the barrel of the M249. I would have pics to prove it, but they are in a book at home and I am on vacation. as for ammo, for the most part, they all recall carrying 210 rounds exactly. this is because the LBE as I posted generally has two ammo cases each carrying 3 mags, + 1 in the rifle. this was significant because they ran out quickly and now the military generally carries more mags. If I recall correctly, the marines wore black USGI boots for the most part, but rangers wore tan desert boots.

another thing I noticed when checking out your pictures is that your rangers are missing their LBE's. in addition, they have the later molle canteen covers which didnt exist yet. example pic of assembled LBE > 100kb In addition, the rangers may or may not have used this following type of load bearing vest. perhaps HyperU2 could shed some light on this since he was there. It was introduced around 1988 and was never fully adopted, but some units used it.

I could be wrong, but is this not the olympic hotel? I could be very wrong on that. this was just from a quick google images search.

"So far nobody has mentioned them and I haven't come across in my research on them in the scale that it would raise eyebrows. Good to know they were there, thank you for the info." yeah, they basically provided the flight medics aboard the 160th SOAR helicopters, and were responsible for saving many of the flight crew on the crashed helicopters. I have yet to see pics, but I believe they had similar kit to delta. in addition, there were AF combat controllers on the ground with delta if you believe mark bowden's book. with regards to the seals, I spoke to a former professor of mine who was delta and was there, and he said he only knew of 4 of them, but their kit was essentially the same as delta, as like I said above, they were on exchange with them, so the black helmet and vest with DCU's and a CAR-15 seems to be what they would have been using. SIG 226 for a sidearm if you want to get in detail. ---------- Post added at 12:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:35 AM ----------

just to clarify, the pasgt vest is the gulf war era flak jacket. they can clearly be seen on nearly all pictures of marines in that period as well as on the 10th Mountain soldiers, although the rangers wore the ranger vest, and delta wore an experimental black vest here is a picture of delta during the period here is a picture of a pasgt vest just to show you what I am talking about. this one is woodland, but they had 6 color covers that went on them.

in terms of the marines, they looked very similar to gulf war soldiers. 6 color chocolate chip helmet covers. pasgt helmet and vest. 6 color vest cover. Alice webbing. it seems to me that in terms of uniforms, the Marines still fielded a mix of 6 color desert and some units were begining to field DCU, but only on the pants and jacket. M16A2, M203, M249, M60 (not 240, they werent widely in service in the infantry role yet.) LAW72 M9= the standard equipment of the period, of course, all iron sights, no optics, and picatinny rails hadnt been fielded yet. here is a good thread about the marines in somalia with info from somalia vets.\ http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?12601-Marines-in-Somalia&p=251666&viewfull=1

what do you need, pics, the types of gear, stuff like that?

I saw earlier in the thread all that stuff about the Navy seals. You guys do realize that there were exactly 4 seals, all seal team 6 present during the battle and the only reason they were there was that they were on an exchange tour with Delta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Mogadishu_(1993)#U.S._and_UNOSOM). Air Force PJ's did however play a very critical role in the events of that day, and I have yet to see any mention of them. In the movie they are dressed just like delta so most people didnt recognize them for what they were, but a large portion of all the "delta" medics present in the movie were actually PJ's. just a suggestion. also, just taking a swag here, but those reference pics on the seals don't seem particularly accurate to somalia. I don't doubt that they were in the range of 1993, but given the lack of body armor/ webbing/ helmet on most of the guys in those pics, I would guess that it wasn't somalia. another interesting unit you could look at would be US Marines because there were 24,000 of them in country the year before black hawk down happened. just some suggestions. your mod looks good thus far.

ANA - Afghan National Army
crimsontide replied to lennard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
another item you will see a lot is instead of pasgt helmets, a lot of ana soldiers wear green ana berets, especially the higher ranking types. they used to wear almost nothing but berets, but body armor and pasgt helmets are becoming more common. in terms of vests, it seems like a huge variety are in use from old US pasgt vests and woodland interceptor vests to surplus czech army vests in both the czech pattern and british dpm (that was a weird looking vest, but I saw quite a few ana guys wearing it in a todays pics thread on militaryphotos.net). -
ANA - Afghan National Army
crimsontide replied to lennard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
these look great. just a bit of advice in terms of realism. while the ana has largely converted to the M16A2, the ANP is still largely equipped with AK-47's, in most cases surplus hungarian AMD-65's. I don't think I have seen any ANP with M-16's. The ana also fields plain uncustomized M-249 SAW's in large numbers although only recently. -
proper movement formations/easier command controlls
crimsontide posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
firstly, you need to fix the wedge formation. in a squad, it should be one 4 man fire team leading in a wedge, then a second fireteam in wedge following with the SL somewhere in between. the whole squad doest make one wedge like you have it now. in general, you guys need to work on the commands as a squad leader. they are much improved from arma 1, but they are still really cumbersome. just some sugesstions. I dunno if anyone agrees, but thats my $.02 -
Deadfast's RH AKs replacement
crimsontide replied to Deadfast's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I thought of that, I just don't really know what to change, and what to change it to. the class name that is currently used is RH_aks47. Deadfast's RH AKs replacement
crimsontide replied to Deadfast's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I know this was posted a long time ago, sorry, but is there a way to change which guns are replaced with what? specifically, you replaced the stock un folded AKMS-47 that BIS had with the RH model of an original 1950's AKS-47 without any stock. Is there any way I or yourself could modify this so that it uses RH's model for an AKMS-47 with the stock open, because it looks really dumb to have an AKM and then pick up an AKMS and have the sights be completely different even though in theory its supposed to be the same gun just with a different stock. If you could explain how, that would be great. -
Arma 2 Addon request thread
crimsontide replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I don't know if anyone has attempted this, and I sure as hell dont know how, but has anyone given any thought to a mod representing a present day conflict on the korean peninsula? you would need to create south korean and north korean units, vehicles, etc, and probably a korea based map or two, but there are plenty of US and allied units to use, and there are already chinese especially, but also russian units to back up the north koreans, so that is already done. I have just had this idea floating around, and given that I have zero ability to create this, I was wondering if anyone who can thought it was a good idea. -
does anyone know if there is a script to call for helicopter or fixed wing fire support in the same way you might use the secops manager to create callable artillery or helo transport. I know nothing about scripting, it just seemed like something that would be out there, and I cant find it.
