Anyone wants to create new RPG ?
Lightningpete replied to MaxRiga's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
There is already a simple non downloadable and fast pased rpg game out. Its called zargabad life. one of the groups still alive with this game type are here: http://www.tcgaming.enjin.com/ Alternatively search in your arma2 oa filter: Tactical and it should be displayed as a server there. Its fast paced enough that it doesnt take anyone all day to either get a nice gang or be in a nice cop car, but it isnt too inbalanced that either get too much advantage over another. Its simple, its easy, its jump in and dont mess about with mods game. Perhaps asking them to let you have access to the map so u can tweak it to your liking (providing you use the startup credits for those that join with their name and website for example could be the factor for persuasion?) -
Create a limited speed area???
Lightningpete replied to Delta Hawk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Hi there, Just a little, i dont know, help with the mission, but if its possible try vary the traffic if you do manage to simplify the way of making cars slow down and speed up. Perhaps allow some of the vehicles to actually break this speed limit (or dont change them) to make it feel more real life rather than a perfect line of vehicles doing matched speeds in a straight line for example. It may cause the odd accident, but doesnt that happen everyday? Just make the scenario more involved, seeing cars halting quickly because of slower moving vehicles, or vehicles speeding because there in a hurry? -
well if you lot can suggest an alternative to him using CAA1 objects, then please share, because the old arma files are ideal models for desert style maps, which arma2 doesnt have... If anything, to the australians, why dont you download it, by one person, and host it over ther on your own servers? i know the quota is probably localised, but still, it would give you all better speeds if the download was in the same country no?

well the main larger entrances to come compounds arent a problem, its the little side doorways on a few that give A.I the problem... they dont want to go through their by choice, rather round the side to the bigger entrance or gap in the compound. When the AI lie down in the long grass/wadis they seem to unable to return fire unless im within 10m of them... but most of the time when they get engaged from when they are outside the area they run through the grass no problem to more suitable cover and return fire... Just if they were standing in the grass previously and then engage, they dont.

Right here are some teething problem after extensive testing: AI units wont move or shoot in the long grass fields/wadis The entrances to each of the compounds have smaller doors, which AI cant pass, and wont go in. Some compounds have walls that can be walked through but not shot through, like a wall hack you would get in the arcade games. Some trees are overlapped ohh and the rest of the other green zones need finished too!! Along with a Kandahar airfield hehe (in your own time.. i mean lol) Other than that, a effing cracking map... used the British 4x4's and 6x6's with the apaches overhead makes for an awesome Ross Kemp in Afghan sort of take...

after vigorous testing, including the use of 144 squads per side, and long distance fighting, i can say that this map runs just as smoothly, if not better than Chernarus tbh. I finally found a map thats both awesome, based on real afghan warfare zones, and pretty much what i wanted from arma2 Also, there are just a couple glitches in the walls of a couple compounds approximately halfway though the 'green' zones you created, its not a mega problem, i just think you have two walls on top of each other as it were, and so makes a slight glitch so i can see through it. I couldnt quite remember which pair of walls, but i will try find them again Keep working hard mate, and dont worry, i have two university assignments in the next couple weeks, plus work, plus police training, we all juggle busy lives too, and its understandable. Right, ive tested the map, it looks fantastic, massive, and looks like a good chance to use brit vs terrorist mods. awesome looking mission map. However i cant seem to render all the buildings. What do i do with the files in the MLOD folder, the p3d files? Apparently when i open the map, it cant find them I have all the Required PBO's out of their original folders and all seperate files in x/caa1/addons folder, the razmisc file or whatever from the map is also in x/caa1/addons folder... basically everything downloaded is in that folder, but not in subfolders inside that... the map is in my maps addon folder, and works ok... So what am i doing wrong? the p3d files i have tried to put inside the x/caa1/addons folder, outside their Mlod subfolder and inside, to no avail... :( ---------- Post added at 04:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ---------- nevermind i fixed it, i just made it a mod folder instead and added to command line all the files ---------- Post added at 04:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:57 PM ---------- Also, i tried the taliban skins vs americans and apache, it was a hard fight for two squads, a stryker.... apache came to save the day... i cant wait till someone creates an afghan style mission, clearing compounds etc... its an amazing map so far, i take it ebanks made a load of models randomly at two places where he'd been copying and pasting them hehe.. Nice work mate, and thanks for the test, i can now enjoy the editor blowing taliban up and pretending to go on ops that last for hours on end :D

Ohh i do apologise people... i take it when you release this version of ace2 as final + updates, i can use the method i have used like you would installing mods via the modfolder method? Sorry i thought this is how to do it if you wanted the mod after public release also.. I do apologise for any offence i caused. im in the process of uploading my method onto youtube for people to try your mod to see what they think... if after they want updates to the beta, then i think using the method you have put forward should still work after the method i have done... it pretty much just updates the .pbo and bisign files? -

sorry, didnt realise this forum updates constantly, although thats silly of me considering you just brought this mod out.. well how about creating the 185 files again as an update file standalone with all the rars... that way people only have to copy the new rars over, and then your updated? basically, extracting all the updating rars to the ACEX folder for an example, then highlighting them all and extracting 'here', delete the rars and the files are updated, no? ---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 PM ---------- it just means people dont have to use six updater thats all... i still think that the initial pain in the ass to do it, would cause problems and peoples patience to not bother with it... whatever happend to the good all days when people released an exe that extracted all the files for you and just re-releasing the updated exe? -

Well guys, i have managed to update my game with the ace mod, with zero problems and by passing the whole six updater sequence.. Using just winrar, and 8 and a half minutes, i installed the ace mod perfectly with no problems... i love the backpack... its a pretty sweet addon! I could give you instructions on adding it for clients using just winrar... i think the six updater method is a bit unorthodox for the likes of many gamers... yes we damn well appreciate the work your doing folks for our pleasure, and indeed your own... but i think we need to be a little more simplistic with this in order to catch everyones full attention and make the mod look successful... Six updater and the method involved appears from the amount of comments on youtube, this and other forums to suggest users are too intimidated by this. Those trolls that decide to argue my point and call me and whoever else noobs in whatever form are sad... and should remove themselves from this planet... (if there even on this planet!) These are my steps anyway... First (only applies to those who havent already) Installed Community Based Addons. Its simple really, download it like you would a mod. Put it in your ARMA2 directory (where you installed the game) Create a folder called @CBA or similar (id recommend sticking with its name for reference and remembrance) Put the CBA files into the folder. Next Create a folder in the same area called @ACE2 Create a folder in the same area called @ACEX <-- extras Next open up in winrar your first ACE pack you downloaded... its the smaller size of the two. Extract the 'userconfig' folder and contents directly into your arma2 folder, (not under any sub folder) If you want to play the MP missions in the editor to try them out, or want the missions ready to play in game, extract the MPmissions folders contents into your arma2 directories sub folder called MPmissions. Next extract the addons folder into the @ACE2 folder in your arma2 directory. Now thats you setup for the initial ACE mod beta... not all features are present... but you get things like the backpacks, the glowsticks, the rename of vehicles and a couple extras too.. Id recommend playing the game here first.. as this will create some 1kb and 0kb files to be updated by the extras ACEX files... and to get a taste of what the mod is to bring :) Now if you want the rest of the juice... heres what i did next. Opening the next winrar, which is the larger of the two ace mod downloadable's - aceX click into the .rsync folder, then clicking the .pack folder, then clicking into the addons folder, it shows you several winrar files... Now instead of searching through each of these and doing a copy each time... the best method is to highlight them all... extract them into your @ACEX folder in your arma2 directory. then close the winrar open up your @ACEX folder in your arma2 directory you should notice that already files are there but indicate they are of 1kb or 0kb in size.. if you scroll down to the rars you have just copied there, you can high light these rars, and with a right click, select the option ''extract here'' Click yes to all, to save time it will now update the remaining ace files then bam your done im jumping into a mp server now, its pretty sweet :) much better than 'no offence' the long winded six updater method, best suited to server updating than client side
