You should try the latest beta, just in case. Take a look to the task manager too, in the cpu use percentage and see if you have anything consuming all your cpu time.

Warfare Commander Voting Problem
Vixente replied to blackettle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes you can disable it, within the "team menu". For this kind of things it's better that you post in the correct thread in the user mission forum: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=82201 I've never experienced such a problem, anyway the first thing i do when entering a Warfare is to disable the annoying popup in case i'm flying or in the middle of combat. Post the problem there and see if Benny can help you. -
Logitech G35 Headset switches in 2 channel mode instead of 7.1 in OA
Vixente replied to tonygrunt's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I meant this: The date is in spanish format (day/month/year). This displays the last program that was ran that sent surround/7.1 sound data to the headset. I am using latest beta too. :S -
Which soundcard do you have ?

Logitech G35 Headset switches in 2 channel mode instead of 7.1 in OA
Vixente replied to tonygrunt's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Strange, i have those too and no problems. G35 driver recognizes Arma2 / OA as surround source and it displays so in the surround panel (The date below the surround symbol). I've checked the logfile and found no error message anyway. And ingame sound looks fine too. But, i am having sporadic freezes and game keeps using cpu but it isn't responding, i have to open taskman and kill the process. Maybe it's related to what is happening to you DirtDog i don't know, but you say "it loads but no display", do you mean that the game doesn't load at all? If that is the case i've never had that problem. I'm using W7 x64 too. I think there is a parameter to start the game with openal library, i think it's -openal You may want to try that one. -
Exactly, but i don't think we should call it "bottleneck" when the problem is the software optimisation/thread management/core use balancing/whatever.

anywhere i can download ARMA 2 legally?
Vixente replied to Swatman's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Securom was removed in patch 1.05 i think. If you have a friend with an original copy, you can install it with your CDKey, update it to 1.07, and then you will have a legal copy installed without the need of the DVD to play. I did this with OA. But now i am forced to use Beta patches because of the securom. My copy is from Steam and i wanted to install OA on my Arma2 folder, so i did but with an OA Dvd version with my cdkey plus the beta patch. When they release the next patch i'll need to go back to Steam version, or do the same thing in the steam folders. Until they decide to remove the securom shit. Anyway i don't know if BI has some sort of electronic download, like EA or Steam. -
What does it take to run this game on max settings?
Vixente replied to shadowlid's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
There are a lot of complex games out there. Don't assume Arma2 is "the great and only one". Don't get me wrong, i love this game since day 1, but there are a lot of great games out there ( though OFP2 is not one of them :P ) Also you don't need the latest hardware to run A2 ok, with what you have wrote game will run fine. Maybe the graphic card is a bit too low, i don't know that card, but i think it's below GTX260. You may want to buy a 5850/GTX460/470 and swap the SSD for a Western Digital caviar black/raptor hard drive to "compensate". Drive speed is important, but the SSD prices are still a bit high in my opinion. And you'll need certain amount of GB for W7+APPS+Arma2+pagefile, the more GB the more price. Especially with SSD. I've got this: Phenom II x4 955BE @ 3,6 Ghz. Sapphire Toxic 5850 @ 860/1300 (1080p resolution) 6 GB RAM DDR2 HD: WD VRaptor 2 10k RPM 150GB for W7 64 + applications + important games (Arma2 and a few others) Game normally runs fine with high/vhigh settings. But this game has flaws and sometimes you are gonna cry and think that is your hardware... and it will not be. But if you like the game you'll keep playing, and if you know and play a lot more games (like i do) you will learn that there are worst games out there with crappy support (without great forums like this one) and crappy performance... -
Have you seen our tests and graphs ? GPU does almost nothing in bench 2. And the CPU is not as heavy loaded as you may think. I bet you that even with i7 980X you will get poor results in bench 2. It's not the hardware, it's the game. Check Dead3ye thread too.
-
I think you can "play" any time you want, you are not going to improve the result with that benchmark. If you have read Dead3yez, there is a very interesting experiment, and the conclusions is that there is something wrong with how the game processes AI, and how the game manages its threads with the CPU cores too. That Benchmark has a lot of IA, you can see tanks, infantry, airplanes, i don't know how many there are, but certainly there are not a few. But looking at the GPU graph it's clear that the GPU has no time to work its shit. And seeing your tests (and others), overclocking or other tweaks have nothing to improve because of "that issue" with the AI/CPU thing. Take a look at Dead3yez post if you haven't yet. It's worth the reading.

A big thank you Xeno, you'll be missed. Good luck with your life. ;)

First, i normally don't benchmark, only when i get a new piece of relevant hardware. I don't know if my results are adequate or not for my hardware. You tell me. - All in-game settings like my previous screenshot. (I don't change them, ever.) - Sapphire Toxic 5850 overclocked @ 860/1300 - Arma2 folder in a different drive than the pagefile.sys - 6 GB RAM (meaningless... as the game barley uses 2gb) DDR2 1066 Mhz. - OA beta patch 72418 Chernarus Benchmark 1: 38 FPS CPU & GPU usage: Comment: This first bench seems equilibrated. Chernarus Benchmark 2: 15 FPS CPU & GPU usage: Comment: Very heavy benchmark, looking at the graphs i assume it is way heavy on the CPU. GPU barely goes up. I think i get here the same as you. Probably this bench is screwed up somehow. No idea. Takistan Benchmark: 44 FPS CPU & GPU usage: Comment: This is what a normal PC Game should be, very heavy on the GPU, and "normal" use on the CPU. I do know that most software don't tend to force the CPU at maximum. I am no hardware geek, but it seems that the CPU does only go near 90% or 100% when using heavy calculating programs, like LinX or other specific CPU benchs. I see every time this kind of "balancing" with the 4 cores in a lot more games appart from Arma. I really don't have a clue if my values are good, bad or average. Don't really care, because my final experience with the game is good. No laggy graphics, all very smooth, very playable. Like all other games, all this tend to go down when more units and AI are near you. But this is normal, right? Sorry for my poor english btw. EDIT: OK, i've read all your post Dead3yez, and now i can understand the problem with Chernarus benchmark 2. It is sad that no one from BIS replied to your post months ago :(

Don't be such a spoilsport, we were having fun :P (until you came) /joking

Ok, didn't know that one. I have similar hardware like the OP. Phenom II 955BE with Toxic HD5850. Both things overclocked, and normally i don't have issues with this game, no performance issues i mean. CPU and GPU use seem normal to me, as i've checked OA uses more GPU than Arma 2 did. I've got W7 64 bits and Catalyst 10.7. I use always the latest functional OA beta. I did have some strange freezes (only the game) a while back, but i'm not playing so much this days to confirm that they're still happening, but in other areas my computer is 100% stable, this game and all others run smoothly. I never had problems with performance with OA. I have the CPU overclocked @ 3.6 Ghz with default vcore, i guess yours should be capable of similar OC, or maybe 3,7 or 3,8... To assure stability run LinX for 1 hour and FurMark for your GPU. If they pass the test, then your computer is rock-solid. This are mi settings:

Benny maybe? Seriously you should do some searching before posting. :( And i doubt that he comes here to answer this, he barely has time to answer the Warfare mission thread, in the user missions forum. (hint!) -

New ARMA2 OA Beta Patch 72418 Available!
Vixente replied to AnimalMother92's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I've not tested this last beta yet, but i've been testing every single beta since i play Arma 2 and never had any problem connecting to any server. :P EDIT: Confirmed, no problems connecting to any server that i've tried. Yes a lot of servers in red and with the question mark, but i can connect anyway. (never happened with other betas) -
HELP:overclock the graphics card I get less FPS
Vixente replied to sprit's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Activate the options that you have turned off, and see what happens. GPU clock@ 240 Mhz seems "a bit" lower to me. -
If playing time is a problem, maybe Arma2 is not a game for you both. Every mission requires a lot of minutes to play, probably hours. I don't want you to despise this game, but maybe some other instant-action shooter maybe better suited for you. This is just a comment, nothing else.

You can't say "i have no crashes here!" and expect that other people don't have any. Maybe your computer is running perfectly and this game (like others) may crash for an unknown and hidden reason. It's a matter of luck. Beta versions may help improve the stability, but for other people it gets worse. Hardware is very different for each comptuer. And unstable games are plenty. I bought Starcraft 2 a few days back and i've got 2 game crashes already. Want it or not, you already are beta-testing anything that you do in a computer, it is the way it is.
