Hooray, did anyone else get this or only me? I played this mission for quite a while, when night came (ingame, that is). And suddenly I had no NV or binoculars! I tell you, the chernarussian evenings are really pitch black! So I was blind as a bat. That sucked. The only way to mend this, seems to be to restart the entire mission. And checking immediately after the boring talking in the beginning is over with. The problem is that the bug showed up in about half my attempts to restart... Another bug or simply bad programming: I just built my first chopper, and before I knew it, it took off, and it never came back. If I ordered it to go to a certain place, it just did a high speed fly-by, and stopped to hover about a km away. I ordered it to attack a target, and it did. THEN it landed. Right in the middle of Chernogorsk, about 2 meters away from an enemy 4X4 with a machine gun. There should have been some commands exclusive for aircraft, like: Land here, unload here, hover.

THAT'S IT! I've had it with this f**king game. Yesterday the game started lagging so badly (in DoW, of course) that I turned the graphics down to a ridiculously low level. But it still crashed, and I gave up. Today things seemed a little better (after some minor adjustments), but NOW THE GAME WON'T SAVE! If I click on the save button, I get the "This will overwrite the previous save game"-message, and click OK or yes or whatever, and the game behaves like normal, EXCEPT it DOESN'T overwrite the old savegame. Now, it seems, the only way to mend this, MIGHT be to RESTART the whole f**king DoW-mission again. BOLLOCKS to that. I give up. I will continue to use this forum, in case a miracle happens, then I guess you guys will be the first to know!

shaftoe dead, will this be an issue?

:D You're right. Next time I'll touch wood. (not meant in any dirty direction, but as the traditional expression goes... you know.) -
Lately, the game has started shelling out and crash about twice an hour. It crashes when autosaving, when I save (and always before the savegame is created), but not always. Every now and then (15-30 minutes), the game just shells out and/or crashes in the middle of gameplay, but typically when I disembark from a vehicle or open the "gear" window. Does the fact that I'm running this on Windows 7 64 bit have anything to say, you think?

:) Well, maybe I'll have to download a few then. At the rate the game is crashing in DoW at the moment, it can't possibly get any worse anyway! -

This is in fact a common bug. I never play any mods, but I got this problem nevertheless. It happens especially when reloading a savegame where you are inside the manhattan base perimeter. It's not supposed to happen, and it ruins the rest of the game. Reload an earlier save game, and try again. -
As soon as the guards look the other way, run for the APC right in front of you. Enter as gunner, use the machine gun to take out the nearby soldiers. Then drive it to the right, onto the road, and enter gunner's seat again. Then shoot all remaining enemy soldier. Drive to the chopper, enter it and fly away.

I think I get ALL the bugs. I also get that injury/deaths when exiting vehicles. So far these are SOME of the problems I've had with DoW (not just bugs): 1. When CDF and NAPA are close to a capture/conquer objective, the town never gets conquered. The town stays red on the map for ever. The only way to conquer it, is a bad case of friendly fire. 2. Capture the guy on the island: I left razor 2-4 at the base, and brought an assault team with me to the island in a chopper. I got injured, and it took forever to get first aid, even though my medic was no more than 50 m away. By the time I regained command, most of my team had disappeared into the sea. I had two infantry left plus the one I had manning a machine gun on the chopper. 3. When I reloaded, and avoided getting shot up, two of my guys instantly died when they exited the chopper back at the base. The rest started running away. I stopped most of them, but number 11 got about 1500 meters south east before I noticed he was gone. He never made it back, poor sod. 4. In about half of the times I started playing DoW, night vision and binoculars are gone. Once I didn't realize this until nightfall, and I had to restart the whole damn thing. 5. The chopper pilots are idiots. All choppers crash stupidly into trees. 6. When I got to command Marines, Chernagorsk was under control. I moved the Marine tanks to defend the outskirts of the city, I thought that was a good idea. After all, what can the Chedaki come up with to compete with that? Apparently a lot. 5 minutes later, half of the tanks were destroyed. I wasnt' anywhere close, so I have no idea how that could happen. Later I discovered that other units were missing too. 7. The game crashes more and more often. Now it crashes sometimes when it autosaves, sometimes it shuts completely down when I suspend the game, and sometimes it shells out, I can see the Arma2 icon on the taskbar, but clicking it does nothing. This might have something to do with me using Win7, but it's still annoying. 8. Fixed enemy weapons are so annoying! I crawled through a small forest to take out the gunner of a fixed machine gun, and succeeded. Then all of a sudden a new enemy spawns and immediately has me in his sights. This spontaneous spawning (reincarnation, perhaps) happens all the time. 9. Why do some dead bodies disappear and some don't? I just shot an enemy AT soldier, and tried to take his rpg7. As soon as I had picked up the launcher, the body disappeared, and the rockets with it. 10. Why do my trucks and vehicles blow up just because they are unmanned? And: As soon as I could afford it, I bought a T72. After a small trip on the country side, I wanted to use some other guys as crew. I exited the tank, ordered the crew to dismount, and immediately, the tank disappeared into thin air. 11. I have to drive my tank myself. The AI driver is a complete dimwit. If I am gunner or commander and order "forward", the driver still makes some idiot maneuver and we end up between two trees and a tractor. When I am the driver, I sometimes get surprised by how observant the crew CAN be. And then acute retardedness kicks in: There can be a missile soldier and a tank 10 meters away, and the gunner still shoots at the poor enemy medic in the treeline 1 km away. So combat in tanks is a stressful event, trying to drive into combat, then switch to gunner, turn the turret and trying to find that damn target, then back to driver's seat again. But still, I keep trying!:j:

Manhatten Walkthrough (Spoilers Obviously)
grimfer replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Maybe it was meant to be a part of the storyline, that I don't know. I believe that the bodies (the doctor and the woman) are there just for immersion purposes, to make the player engaged in what happens. -
Capturing towns on Dogs of War
grimfer replied to horrgakx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
That sounds like a good idea. Can't imagine it being impossible, either... -
Pardon my French, but that is a load of crap. When I purchase a game, I expect it to be a finished product. I don't pay BIS to be their tester. I played all the OFP games, and I liked them, even though they had some issues as well. Arma2 is a great game, but when you spend more time maneuvering around bugs than solving the challenges within the game, I think it's appropriate to ask the question if it's worth it.

Are you sure? I think I can get much closer to enemies without NVGs. Maybe my team members have cat eyes, but OPFOR sure don't seem to. Am I wrong about this?

Manhatten Walkthrough (Spoilers Obviously)
grimfer replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
No, that's a part of the story line. The doctor and his patient is hanged as a part of a "lynching" wave by the Chedakis. ---------- Post added at 05:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:59 PM ---------- When I played this mission, I used the LAV-25 in the base. Boomerang came with one on their own. Not the same. I also had to restart the mission to get arty. But that took care of most of the business. It is also possible to knock out a t-72 with the LAV-25's cannon, but you need to do it at a very long distance, and hit the turret repeatedly. You must also use the terrain so that only the upper half of the T-72's turret is visible. -
Capturing towns on Dogs of War
grimfer replied to horrgakx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
OK, that explains it. That means that even if I joined NAPA in the previous mission (Badlands), I am now forced to work with CDF. Maybe I should have paid attention to the briefing in the beginning... :) OK, then. I did kill the priest in Badlands, and I didn't report the weapons in Manhattan. Not sure what affects what, though. But I find it strange that CDF and NAPA swarm the same towns sometimes, making it impossible to conquer them... They seem to be competitors... -
You can buy choppers as NAPA as well, but you have to wait for a while. EDIT: I went with NAPA in Badlands, but I always end up with CDF in DoW (no choice). But CDF and NAPA are allied when I play. Maybe that has something to do with it? Anyway, I don't know whether or not you can buy choppers when playing NAPA. How do you play NAPA in DoW? Going with NAPA without killing that leader guy?

Capturing towns on Dogs of War
grimfer replied to horrgakx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I play NAPA, and I got the option to high command. I think the problem with capturing towns is that a town isn't captured before there's only one faction in the main base area. When I get to a base, and there are CDF troops there as well, I could stay there for hours, and nothing happens. As soon as I leave, the base gets the green color in the map, indicating CDF now controls it. If both NAPA and CDF troops arrive almost at the same time, they will stay there for hours and days. I confirmed this theory right now, by killing all cdf in the town (probably bad for my statistics). And sure enough, the base turned blue on the map, indicating NAPA control. -
I didn't have much problems with this one actually, but I think I played on rookie setting, to be honest. I found that it's important to find the DMR in what's left of Manhattan. As soon as the red car stops, I regroup and get the team in close column (file) formation. Then I head straight into the field south-ish. There are some trees in the middle there. I used that point to scan the town, while the chopper deploys the spetz naz. I ordered my team to Hold fire, and Danger. Then I circled to the other side of the town, there was a small squad and an unmanned APC (don't remember what it's called) If you wait a little, you can kill the entire squad without raising the alarm. We then took the APC to the rendez vous-point and talked to the NAPA guys. Then I've also tried another approach, but then I used the humvee and just raced into town. I had one man injured, but as long as we got to the rendez vous-point and escaped on the far side of town, we were home free. The enemies stayed away from that side.

Dog of War, can't capture town
grimfer replied to machival's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
This is ridiculous! I can't complete the last mission because the game is bugged, and YES, I already have installed the latest patch! I have never played a game with so many bugs, and normally I tend to accept a few bugs when the game itself is so good. But when the game can't be finished, and I already have accepted and worked my way around many bugs already, it's just not acceptable. Imagine buying a book without the last 20 pages. It won't help that the author is a genius! -
Dog of War, can't capture town
grimfer replied to machival's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I have the exact same problem. So far I play with NAPA, without high command. When i came into the first town, my team was first on the scene (Razor team), I went to the "capture" waypoint, and waited for a long while. Nothing happened, and the town was "green". So I went to the next town. Then I got the message that the town was lost (still green), and the task was cancelled. The next town already had a few APC's and 4X4 and a few infantry. A few enemy troops were there, and they kept trickling in for a while. I captured all strongpoints, and stayed in the main base in that town for 1 hour+, and nothing happened. This is the 6th serious bug I have encountered WITH the latest patch. I am SO tempted to ship the game back to BI and demand my money back... No other game has ever frustrated me so much. -
Badlands was much easier than I thought. As long as you take your time in the beginning. A found it easier with NAPA than with CDF, even though you get somewhat better equipment and soldiers with CDF (my opinion). With NAPA I attacked the first town with my 4 man team only. Using sniper rifle and guiding nr 2, and carefully circling the town, I managed to take out the UAZ's and most of the infantry. Then I moved in with two offroads, equally carefully, and the town was ours! The next part is about getting money to buy a few BRDM (or whatever the APC's are called). I got 4 of them, disbanded the crew, and substituted them with machine gunners and AT infantry (they're much more usable in case they have to get out of their vehicles) Since AI is completely retarded when it comes to driving, I choose to drive the first APC myself. Then I change to gunner's seat whenever the enemy is close. Because the gunners seem to be deaf, dumb, blind and stoned as well. The rest is easy. ---------- Post added at 01:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:47 PM ---------- BTW: Badlands is a great mission, but I also got most of the bugs others describe here. And updating with the latest patch didn't help much either. Right now I'm playing Dogs of War, and when I think about all the frustration this game has given me, it's almost not worth it.
