    RL > VR -Simunition

I've never gotten into airsoft because of the cheaters, they don't even have to wipe! But that really comes down to the players. I also would feel awful about leaving a bunch of plastic BBs around the woods for birds to eat. I've been following the SpecOpsPaintball guys for a while, they have some sweet marker mods. They also play my style, woodsball/mil-sim. I have a couple markers, one is an A5 with a flatline. I have to say, it is a great standard and the noise is good too ;) I'm not too worried about the legal side of it. I know it would be a lot of work, but with a few policemen or soldiers on board, things should go smoothly. Also, there would be very strict security measures in place with a 1 mistake and you're gone policy. If anyone ever thought it was funny to bring live ammo I wouldn't want to play with them. As for terrorist training, I think it comes down to the same argument as firearms- Criminals don't follow the law. Also, any firearms used, and their owners, would need to be registered with the gov(just a guess) and the insurance company. To be clear I don't think this can or should be done backyard style. This would be the full shabang- paperwork, legals, security, EMT, everything primed for the worst just in case. As for GoArmy.com, I'm past the age that bootcamp is tolerable, have issues with authority and do not like our(USA) current situation. But it sure would be fun, without the killing or dieing part... the threat of death would be nice, once in a while.

    RL > VR -Simunition

Video games and paintball have been a staple of my life. War is my friend, I love the mental and physical aspects. I always look for more ways to get into combat without having to actually kill someone or die. For a few years now I have been trying to find others with the drive and courage to take it a step farther. We have the technology already... Simunition (Simulated Ammunition). With a little bit of body armor, reduced charges, lipstick rounds, beanbags... you have real war without the death. Win-win!! What I'm wondering is, would any of you play a game? Even better, do any of you play(outside of military/police training)? While the insurance would be tough to work out and the price to get started quite large, I think it would be worth it. If you add in hardcore software for tracing bullets, you would have the largest spectator sport in the world.. and of course we would all get rich off it. Woohoo. Well, maybe just wealthy as the 5x5mile playing fields with 200'+ walls all the way around would cost a mint. I've been trying to get this going for a few years now, but no one is ever interested. Meanwhile, the industry is growing. Just type Simunition into Google and you'll see what I mean. This should be done, if someone out there has already stolen this great idea from me, at least get in touch with me and offer me a spot on a team (I'll pass whatever tests). Or better yet, cut me in.

    D2D manual activation please help!

I got my copy of ARMAII from D2D as well. I had no problems switching it from my Windows User Account to the Admin Account. But a different PC all together? I doubt that will work without talking to D2Ds customer service. http://www.direct2drive.com/staticpage.aspx?topic=about Hit that link and look for the part titled -How many licenses or activations do I get?. Then call them and explain. They will probably tell you the license is for 1 computer only, so transfer the downloaded file to the computer you are going to play on before installing and activating.
  4. Great, yet another way for people who have no clue about gaming or computers to pump out garbage FPS' - my priceless thought.

New to this game, some questions?

The AI isn't anywhere near as smart as people make it out to be. There are two types of interactions with the enemy- they shoot you dead the second you show yourself or they turn in circles 10 feet away from you oblivious to your presence. Friendly squad movement is fine in open fields, but moving next to a building will send a squad-mate a block away. Sometimes they will use cover, but sometimes that cover is a sign post 2 inches in diameter while they ignore the vehicle or rock wall that would provide decent cover. My very important commands to my squad are often delayed by useless radio chatter. Making the radio three channels would fix this, 1 for the cinematic stuff, 1 for the constant and mostly usless updates your squad and command gives you, and 1 for the actual commands that will save lives and accomplish missions. The first two missions were ok, but leaving 3 local men tied up in the barn seemed rather silly. Either take them out or let me escort them to safety as well. Was this one of those sick hidden statements about sex or just sloppy work? I really think in a game that is all about being a sim and having great AI the missions should be set up for this. Mission-Harvest Red is a great example of my complaint here. Running full speed down a street is not how you deal with a MOUT situation. Also, there is barely any combat in this mission, its either shoot the 1 fleeing enemy or get owned by a bmp. Hopefully you get what I'm saying so I'll stop here. Compatibility, yikes. Not sure why a game made for Vista wont run without a WinXP tag that kills my computers ability to use its RAM and probably many other things. The WinXP compatibility mode wont even help, this compatibility mode lets me run anything... I do mean anything on this rig. When I first installed ARMAII I was running 1920x1080 smoothly on high quality settings, now I'm running half that resolution with normal settings and no FSAA and its super jumpy. ARGH! I spend more time reading these forums than I do playing the game. When you add to this the totaly messed up state of Windows, Microsoft and all other corporations, the inability for Antivirus programs to actualy protect your computer and having to spend $3K every-other year on computer parts.. I'm just pissed off. So sorry for the negativity, but this world better get its shit together or I'm going AWOL. I'm thinking a bag full of mushrooms and a trip to mars on my nerf rocket. Stupid humans. well, whatever, I'm still going to play as I uninstalled everything else to increase my HDD speed. And its not like any other game even attempts to be good let alone great. Twitch shooters and the mainstream killed the gaming industry. --- edit and then of course this forum posts this to someone elses thread.. awesomeness!! Well, at least I will catch less flak.

    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

A few hours on microsoft forums and... The incorrect Display RAM issue isn't an issue at all. dxdiag is not only checking the onboard RAM but any system RAM allocated to the GPU. So if ARMAII is seeing that you have 4GB of video RAM when you only have 1GB, it is NOT an issue and everything is working fine. As for the rest, I still need the -winxp tag.

    Peripherals used. (multiple selections)

Logitech G15, G5v2, Extreme3DPro, and a mic/headset combo. I want to get a TrackIR and a throttle/forcefeedback joystick and a wheel+pedal combo and 2 more widescreens but if joystick support isn't made functional there is no reason.
  8. I'm using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. First, Ive spent a lot of time behind the stick of ultralights and small planes so im not totally blowing hot air. It seems to me that the flight model itself is great, not too simple and not so complex we all have to train for 2 years to fly a jet. But I HATE how ARMAII sees my joystick and how the throttle works. I have no control what-so-ever. I get almost no change in control from the ingame sensitivity and the analogue throttle doesn't work with my throttle slider. I've tried to make its own profile in the Profiler with no gain. Sometimes the game ignores the joystick input, sometimes I barely move it and I'm instantly upside down. Flight is impossible for me. It seems like the joystick is sitting ontop of a D-pad and randomly deciding when to push the buttons. It also seems that it only has 8 directions (left, right, up, down and up+right, up+left, down+right, down+left). I want to be clear, I'm not asking for full analogue. Just a decent 'digital' setting for a joystick. ie 16 directions with 4 levels of intensity, so I can turn sharp or soft as I see fit for the current situation.

    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

x86 can use 4GB so why would it use only 2GB? Its no trouble realy, as its running ok now. Also, the default directory on my system is the x64 ProgramFiles... which is where I installed it assuming it was x64 capable. If its not... I think I just found my problem.

    ArmA2 8GB RAM Problem

Windows Vista Ultimate x64, AMD X2 6000+, 9800GX2, 8GB RAM (8189 in TaskManager) Same 8GB issue. Using the -winxp command line tag allows me to play, but the game is only using 2GB of memory. localVRAM=2138953728; nonlocalVRAM=2138953728; Please note, if I run the game with the default command line, ARMAII sees a different amount of memory every time it is run and this amount is near or way under 1GB. Also, with either command line, my local and nonlocal VRAM are always the same. I'm getting confused. While waiting for a true fix, I would like to edit the cfg file so ARMAII uses the 8GB, but I'm not sure how. Should I set the localVRAM to exactly what my system has? Or should I set it under that amount to allow for Windows processes? Also, if I set the file to read only so ARMAII wont overwrite my settings, what options in Options/Video should I not touch? Requesting consolidation of this thread. I've read it all 3 times now and I'm sure that counts as torture.
  11. From browsing this forum it seems like this will solve many of the 'jumpy' problems. http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/dynamicDetails.aspx?ListID=c5cd2c08-1432-4756-aafa-4d9dc646342f&ItemID=153 There is more to updating drivers than meets the eye;)
  12. Vista x64, 8GB RAM, BFG 9800 GX2 (more sys info can be PMed to Mods). I used to run 2 GX2s but I lost a fan:( The game runs smooth, but the textures mostly don't appear. They appear white, tan or beige. It almost seems as the system is trying to load the textures but is glitching somewhere in LODs. The strangest part is sometimes some textures will load fine. For instance a humvee first appears like a paper cutout, then move forward 5 feet and it looks sweet, then 5 more feet and back to paper. The windows in vehicles also seem to be shattered? This also seems like a LOD error. I plan on building a new system soon so don't worry about fixing drivers for this touchy gpu. But if there is a fix let me know. ---EDIT--- Turns out this an 8GB memory issue, "fixed" with the -winxp addition to the command line, but then ARMAII is only utilizing 2GB of memory.
