Arma2 dedicated server howto
Rustydog replied to warlock2511's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
I would think 1 tb per month of bandwidth for ama2 is cutting it close. A lot depends on the mission you are running. To be safe look for a dedicted server that offers at least 4tb . I tried running various virtual servers from different providers and found them to be low on the performance side . Always went back to a true dedicated server. -
thats becuse any server running this missions became he main targets of hackers. I think the last one hosting this mission with offline yesterday

Server being hacked - admin rights overruled
Rustydog replied to _Hurricane's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
None of thouse settings will stop the attack . Even having no admin account and voting turned way up it still happens. checking for sigs kind of works but Ive seen the same person come right after BIS kicks for sig check and gets in and starts trouble. there is a MAJOR flaw in the way BIS handles things in game. I am done with trying to host untill things get fixed -

Nope I had voteing disabled and was the only one with the password. I would also see player so and so gui # kicked game hack 3 :same player would come right on with darky.pbo sig wrong . get auto kicked and then log in again and start spawning stuff. anyway untill this gets fixed the game is totaly messed up. -

No I make sure that I never log in as admin. It dont matter admin logged in or not . I was logged via the remote con though. There where people spwaning things at will and filling up slots with AI untill no one could join . Then after a restart about 20 mins all heck broke loose -

I just cancled my server with my server provider. This is too much . Yes Battleye is catching somethings , But even with not allowing addons the server is being hit by hackers like crazy. They fill up slots with ai to keep players out , spawn what ever they want when ever the want . And then to make things worse I was sitting on the server when all 30 players where banned by battleye for game hack 3. Everyone even my self. last straw , BIS needs to get this game fixed and put some real protection in . -
hmm dont seem to work , setting sigs to allow only certain addons fail. even allowing no addons fail.

Just like the other games and thier protection systems they have to wait for a hack to come out to be able to protect it. There is always going to be a lag behind what the hackers put out . Arma2 is a open system sand box game thats allows aalmost complete custom game. Therefore people are going to learn how to make addons that do strange stuff. A watchfull admin is the best catch all , it dont take much to figure out who is hacking if you pay attention to the logs of the server and take steps.

For every five honest log in's I get at least two xxxxx.pbo sig kick. Getting A LOT of the ones I banned trying to come back in with different names and BIS id's. Ive even seen kids come in with the xxxxx.pbo sig error get kicked ,change name and come back in with the dary thing not installed , guess what I ban them right away. This too will pass as more and more get banned or just get bored killing servers. -

I am seeing less and less gamehack 13 kicks now and more and more kick becuse battleye ban , even seeing the same people that came in banned come in under another name and different BIS id but BE catches it. getting ready for the next wave -

Thats what I was getting at . If Battleye detects a hack then the id gets banned globaly. Admins can still add thier own bans but only hacks detected by BE would go on the global list. another question is why does Battleye not auto ban and kick on hacks . I would rather have to go in and edit out bans than go through the log every day looking for hackers . I got 8 more hackers today being caught by BE. they are coming in groups three or four at a time . -

I was able to be banned from my server and was not logged as a admin. Good thing was I was a running a mission just to test server load and I got about five of these idiots banned. ---------- Post added at 06:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:13 PM ---------- found a couple of quick fixes for this at least the banning part . you have to use Battleye bans only . I think the best way to deal with this is a master ban list on battleye . You can add your own banns but anyone caught with a hack gets banned from every BE server . all Ive gotten the last few days is hackers or stupid kids running that hack . -

I am getting quite a few gamehack#3 kicks . Seems like the only ones joining servers now are hackers. -

Signed addons do not stop this as they are able to spoof any addon allowed by the server. its going to be a fun couple of days untill the kids get bored . passwording the server , having a site to sign up on to play is going to be the norm for arma2/AO. has BIS thought about only having addons that run server side.
