Oh agreed, the guys are insanely talented, its just there arent the hundreds upon hundreds of mods out for it yet that are out for ARMA1, OPF etc... Its just a matter of time waiting for those. I meant no disrespect to the guys who make them, they are brilliant, best ive ever seen on a game.
-
Argh im going insane i swear. That forum is a joke. The moderators are a joke, Polaris is just cringe worthy, the place is just so depressing. Why do they defend the game like this? I mean... We know there are faults with ARMA2, they are being patched and worked on constantly and its great to know Bohemia are doing something about it. But we dont sit there and straight up deny the faults in the game, they are there, and they are to be fixed, and discussed. But on the OPFDR forums, you arent allowed to anything that will be interpreted negatively by the camp guar.... sorry moderators, under punishment of censorship and ban. I really feel for the Bohemia guys seeing their name tarnished with this junk.

Its worth it. Definitely. The mod community is already pretty decent, give it until next year and there should be enough new content to keep you busy for a long time. The game isnt half as glitchy as people make out, its perfectly fine for me. Learning curve isnt too bad either, just take some time to memorize basic controls and your good. Save often when you first start too.

If you paid via paypal you may be able to get a refund. Put up a link to his ebay profile. If thats allowed on this forum, i know some forums have issues with linking to external sites.

Go for the full. The demo was a little unstable for me, the full game patched up runs perfectly. I havent really had any glitches whatsoever, except one body floating but that was just visual. You wont regret getting it.

Ive got to stop reading that comparison thread its killing my brain. Why do they flat out ignore every good point about ARMA? That BF Bad Company clone is not going to come anywhere close to ARMA 2 in scale, realism, community, anything. And Viiiper..... What a joke. I honestly think when its released and plays like a BF game, everyone will defend that, and start saying that realism doesnt equal fun, the balance of realism/arcade is better etc... Anything to try and push the fact ARMA2 is easily the most impressive military simulation on the market. Period. The mod love there is just.... strange. Dedication to Helios threads every few pages, with 10 plus pages of people saying "thank you helios for lying to us about a console demo, about MP sizes, about MP map sizes, about a true free roam game, about number of weapons, vehicles, about coop tether's, about numerous other failures in the game". Strange people for sure. Sorry it just really irritates me because i already know that people on the consoles are going to get this game, and think its the pinnacle of realism, realize its pretty average, and not want to play a "realistic" military game again. All without trying ARMA2.

I'd imagine its pretty standard for every fast jet pilot, so definitely something that should be added.
-
Altitude, i guess you never get high enough in ARMA... But im sure the vast majority of fast jet pilots use them though dont they?
-
Its not an issue for me right now as im all patched up at the moment, but when the next patch inevitably comes out, will it affect my saved campaign/scenario games at all?
-
Do patches affect saved games?

Ah okay. But it wont make me have to redo all the campaign missions again after each patch to reopen them correct? -

Not sure if you've been keeping up with the news on OPFDR... Its not a flashpoint game, its not a simulation, its just.... Bad. Take a look at their official forums, look at how much has been dropped, how much has changed, how dumbed down it is. Its nothing like ARMA2, nothing like the original OPF games, its not the same people making it so it wouldnt be anyway. The game looks terrible in the state it is right now. Battlefield Bad Company is what it looks like to me, just bad. ---------- Post added at 09:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:51 PM ---------- I quote Undeceived Link to thread and page - http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=85107&page=305 And thats not some beta code they were playing, its the gold code.... -
Hey guys, i just brought my first gaming PC, pretty much purely from watching footage of ARMA 2 on youtube etc... Just looks sublime and i used to play the original OPF on PC. Anyway im really new to PC gaming, and im looking to buy a retail copy of ARMA 2 after playing the heck out of the demo. Should i go for it on steam, or should i buy a hard copy? Can i use mods and addons with the steam version, is it identical etc.. Steam patches automatically doesnt it, that would be good for me since im really terrible at PC gaming at the moment, still trying to figure it all out. Thanks

Just Got the game :) few questions
Skyline On Fire replied to DanielBourne's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
vasmkd, no love for the original ARMA, queens gambit etc? -
I just wish Bohemia had their kid of marketing budget, and still had the OPF name, it will sell quite a few copies based on the name alone. People need to realize the game they are looking for in OPFDR has already been made, ARMA2.
-
Have you noticed that any reviewer who posts anything negative about OPFDR is slated as unprofessional and a COD fanboy... I mean, they have practically denounced every single online and print preview of the game as absolute garbage. Its just... Amazing ignorance.
-
As a long time player of OPF and after recently getting arma/arma2 and just loving them both, so much, im so disappointed at what i see from codemasters. Cant believe they have the nerve to keep the OPF name, its not a flashpoint game, its barely realistic let alone a simulation.... No lean.. Come on thats just crazy. And the lack of console demo has pretty much confirmed this game selling under 500,000 on xbox 360, and thats just a straight up flop, especially since they spent so much money developing this. I really wish it was good, i gave them chance after chance, put down the dodgy looking videos they released as just alpha/beta code, but there's no denying its just not OPF in the slightest. Oh well, at least we have BI putting out fantastic stuff. And the official forum is a joke. You cant say a thing against OPF without being slammed by pages of fanboys telling you to go back to playing buggy ARMA (its called a patch, OPF will need a lot i guarantee you that). And whats with mentioning ARMA on that forum? If anyone so much as mentions it they are told its terrible, its not to be talked about etc... Its really strange behavior.

I guess my only issue with steam is the fact it seems like your paying more, for less "stuff" i mean you get the game wether you buy a hardcopy or a download, but charging far more for the downloadable version, which comes without manuals, case, dvd etc... Just seems a bit silly. Its easier than going to the shop though i guess. Installed it a few hours ago, patched it up, been playing ever since, its just sublime. Everything i wanted upgraded from the original flashpoints. Its just a damn shame dragon rising is turning out like it is..... -

Thanks :) the game is installing now, went and got a hard copy from GAME. I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a big display area in the PC section just for ARMA 2, its apparently sold a lot more than i thought it had, really pleased it has. If anyone deserves good sales its Bohemia if you ask me. -

Thanks so much for these. Should i patch it as soon as i get it? If so, do i have to download and install each patch in a row, or can i just get the latest, and that will cover all the others? -

Nobody was as surprised as me when it came back like that. Not suer why its working so well, could it be the OS? I heard vista was the worst one to run ARMA2 on too... -

My only issue with steam is the higher price, 13 pounds higher to be exact (than play.com) ---------- Post added at 09:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:00 PM ---------- And you dont get a hard copy, i mean... everyone likes a full shelf of games dont they? I dont like the idea of digital distribution all that much, its nice to get a hard copy, adds to the "excitement" of a new release etc... -

Yeah sure, although ive already played the demo, done the benchmark, and it runs it at high/very high with a 30fps average on very high. Honestly i was shocked it did, as ive been hearing stories about how unoptimized it is, how it needs a overclocked quad core etc... To run at high, im getting zero slowdown even when really messing around in editor on high. AMD Athlon IIx2 dual core 245 @ 3 GHz (am3) Palit Geforce GTS 250 GDDR3 1GB Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 Twinx Dual channel RAM Vista Home Premium 32 bit Really surprised i get such a good frame rate even on very high, as my system isnt the most powerful on the market. Also runs crysis on very high all the way through with no issues. Was considering getting a quad core, but there doesnt seem to be any need to do that just yet since ARMA runs so well as it is. ---------- Post added at 08:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:36 PM ---------- Mods are some way down the line for me, I want to get the Campaign/scenarios done a few times, enjoy the game, and get a lot better at it before i start diving into mods/multiplayer etc... -

Thanks! I think i completed the OPF CWC campaign about 6 times in the first few weeks of release, and the demo for ARMA 2 blew me away. Running this on very high is just... Beautiful. -

Im a pretty tidy guy and keep all my CD's DVD's 360 games etc... in order, so i wont be losing it any time soon, still have the adverts that came in my copy of OPF circa 2001! Found it on shopto for 25, think il go with them as i know il get it next day.
