  1. No, but it was in the armory doing missions there, which isn't much better I suppose.
  2. Well, I got all my parts in, and put together my system... Core i7 920 (stock @ 2.66GHz) 6GB Patriot Viper Series DDR3 (stock @ 1066MHz) 600GB Raid0 Data Stripe SLI'd 2x EVGA GTX 275s (3584MB memory total) I overclocked it a little to check my processor heat at a low OC, and then set it back to stock. A few days later one of my memory modules burned out :j: So today, I tested Arma2 on the system (with only 4Gigs ram, since one module is burned out). I went into video options and set the pulldown to Very High, and then manually made everything Very High that wasn't, and set the view distance to 10k. I started the game and went around. So far it hasn't dropped below 40 FPS, usually runs about 55, and sometimes goes over 70. I'm pretty amazed at the performance...
  3. Any of you guys currently in an IRC room dedicated to ArmA 2 Editing and Scripting? I haven't seen any info regarding one...
  4. My guess the problem is you bought a Dell... haha, j/k... sorta
  5. Well, I'm stationed abroad, so skype is like a godsend to me for keeping in touch with friends and family back in the states, heh.
  6. I appreciate the skype chat input... It's still a text based instant way of talking other people who develop... *shrugs* I notice there seems to be a crapload of people on this forum who just make offtopic posts just to complain about people making offtopic posts... On most forums I stick to the moderators tend to manage that... I wouldn't usually say anything, but browsing here I seem to notice it a lot. I might keep looking for a less aggro forum, heh
  7. I almost have it, ha. Parts should be waiting at my po box when I get home from field training in a couple days. Ordered them a couple weeks ago.
  8. Herro I like to make hard-copy editing manuals to have in hand while I work with missions rather than using one digitally... Question is there a COMREF that has the Syntax, Description, Examples, and Additional Information in one huge list with all the commands present? Seems the only COMREF I see for ArmA 2 is this one: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Scripting_Commands_ArmA2 It'd make an excellent table of contents, but isn't exactly printable with the command descriptions.... (why do I have a feeling I'm going to have to make one to be able to do this? =P )
  9. It's not a matter of being able to see the references on the screen. If that were the case I'd prolly just set up a laptop on the coffee table, altho having your computer on a 40" tv gives you a lot of real estate to multitask, heh I just much prefer holding a hardcopy, being able to actually flip thru it rather than scrolling a screen or hyperlinking, and being able to write notes all over. Plus it's great to throw at people in self-defense... ---------- Post added at 03:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:02 AM ---------- oh, and I hate trees.
  10. Yeah, but I don't have $700 to burn on a 256gb HDD, or I'd be getting a much better laptop, heh. And the smaller ones aren't any better pricewise, really. The weight and power aren't an issue since it'll be in a pelican in a container, or sitting on a desk plugged in. I just need to make sure I backup data... But all this has me looking more and more at a micro ATX rig. I just can't justify spending more money on a mediocre laptop than I just did on a core i7 with SLI gfx...
  11. Wow, I would have never, ever noticed that in your sig if you hadn't pointed it out.... heh Kinda... cluttered, ha
  12. I just like having hard copies in hand, heh... I still have the multi-hundered page mission editing manual I put together and printed out in '02 for OFP =)
  13. Well, I'll be deploying in not too long, so a laptop is going to be my only option for a long time. Trying to spend less than $2k if possible, and still be able to enjoy the game at reasonable settings... And yeah, that first one runs crysis at like 4 fps with all settings maxed, ha. 20-30 fps with things toned down iirc. Considering this, sorta... Intel Core2 Quad Q9000 2.00GHz or Intel Core2 Extreme X9100 3.06GHz Dual XFire 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 4GB 2 Chan DDR3 1066MHz 500GB Raid 0 Array The parts for my pc should be waiting at home when I get back from field training next week, so I'm pretty stoked about putting that together... What's sad is that that laptop is more expensive than the parts for my desktop were... =/ Maybe I should look into building a micro ATX, but I'm worried about getting parts that wont fit into the case if I go with that. Especially since everything I do is over the mail, and I can't really shop anything in person... BTW, why would you go without the raid? I've been really happy with my last desktop in a striping array.... It's able to access and write data muuuuch faster than a standalone configuration...
  14. Core i7 920 @ 3.6gHz ASUS P6T DELUXE V2 Mobo 6gb Patriot DDR3 @ 1600mHz SLI EVGA GeForce GTX 275 1792MB, PCI Express 2.0 x16 (3584MB total memory) Think I'm going to be able to run the game on high/max settings while hooked up to a 40" tv through HDMI? (I forget exactly which resolution the tv is...) Also, I'm going to be picking up a laptop. This is what I had in mind... Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz 4GB DDR2 800mhz 640GB HDD in Raid 0 Stripe GTX 260M 1GB Or this... Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 667MHz 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 (optional 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT for $350 more) =/ Am I going to be able to get a 10k view distance with either rig without killing performance?
  15. Yep, it lets me access that =D Thanks again!
  16. Thanks a million! Unfortunately I can't access anything on the www.arma2.com webpage for a few more days, so I'll just have to wait =/
  17. Hey all... I used to be huge into OFP editing way back when, and just discovered that the ArmA series is a descendant. You have no idea how excited I am to get back into all this. =) Unfortunately, tho, I'm field training atm and can only read this forum and wait till I get back home to see if my copy of ArmA 2 came in the mail yet. Most every single gaming website is blocked by the govt internet here, so this is pretty much my only resource atm to peruse. Anyway, I've been looking around and can't seem to find a thread that consolidates tools for doing editing and such... Am I just missing it? If there isn't one, now is probably a good time to get a consolidated thread going, so here we are... Many thanks to kylania for the update to the files for ArmA Edit. Of course I can't use the tool yet, but I was very familiar with Chris's OFP Script Editor back in the day and am looking forward to using his ArmA Edit for more editing mayhem =) ------------------------------------------------------- ArmA Edit by Chris Henderson Script editor and wizard tool, and newly updated ArmA 2 dat files http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=78274&highlight=chris+henderson ------------------------------------------------------- Arma2 / Mission Editing A2B Editor by EMSI Smart SQF editor especially designed to create briefings (now these are .sqf files) and overviews in ArmA2. Arma2 / Mission Editing Arma II Briefing Manager by alimag Briefing, tasks and notes sections manager for ArmA2. It also allows to convert OFP/ArmA HTML briefings into A2 sqf. Arma2 / Editor Addon Debug Console by Gaia Debug console from ArmA1 and ported it to ARMA 2 http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?action=list&game=Arma2 ------------------------------------------------------- The editing community still seems to be in the early stages, so I'm sure we'll have tons of tools to look forward to. If anyone has any other tools to post, reply and I'll add them and clean this post up. If this thread already exists somewhere I can't find, I'll be happy to get rid of it =)
