ARMA 2 and VAC (Voice Activated Commands)

Whats great is you can do other cool stuff as well. *Use voice commands to start sound mp3 tracks or similar. *Combine the orders with programs like Autohotkey. For example in my personal build I use a Autohotkey script while I am playing. When I want to add something on the map I just use a voice command that ads what I want, but also presses the key to trigger the script that ads a time stamp from the windows clock to the end of the text. *All the combo tricks you can do are also sweet.
  2. Basically some times the game slows to a slide show and the graphics on stuff become edgy and stuff similar to what it is at long range, square wheels etc, and it dosent come back to normal. It has only started happening from time to time after patch 1.59. A mid game fix that seem to work is to go into options and swap video card ram usage from normal to very high and then back again or vice versa. Basically so you put in a setting so high or low that the game needs to re-receive the graphics. After that its back to normal for a while until it happens again.
  3. I dont know, but I use Autohotkey to switch key configs between PVP and CTI on some keys and that works. I would reckon similar software to swap the keys around wouldnt have any more issues than Autohotkey has, but thats just speculation. I am just confirming some software that do that works. Autohotkey is free btw. Its most commonly used for scripts in mmorpg games, but it can also do simple key switches in most games which is a God sent for people using the arrow keys for movement and not wasd in some games.

How to patrol in waist high grass / scrub?

Line formation, kneel down, stealth mode and watch the direction of the enemy. If you dont know where the enemy is use scan horizon. Once in a while, or if you have a big squad, tell one team to stop while the other one continues with you. Then return them to formation. Another tactic I like to use in hard to see maps, jungle etc, with infantry is to have my squad separated into three teams. Team one is one or two guys set in stealth, scan horizon and advance, team two is the main team in aware and line formation with me and the third team is the medics in stay back. Once in contact, since its usually close range, I order everyone to prone, stop and if I know the direction I tell them to watch it. ("Contact front" etc using voice commands). The rest usually gets sorted without to much input.

    VACbuilder Arma 2 profile.

Here is a new update. v305. This update is a response to the OA patch 1.59 which changed a few things in the command system. It made some orders redundant, but also opened for other commands and gave me an excuse to add some new commands. :) Download v305. Whats New: *Removed Team 6-12 orders on all profiles. Not needed anymore because of shift+F1 to F5 functions now selects teams Red(1) to White(5). *Added directional orders to Ambush command. Both for Team X and Team 1-5. Usable directions: N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW. Example "Team Red Ambush North" or "Team One Ambush North". The normal "Team Red Ambush" order still works. *Added "Contact Front" order and direction to All teams, Team X, Team 1-5 and stand alone panic "Contact front" order. Usable directions: N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW. Example: "Team Red Contact Front", "Team Red Contact North West", "All teams Contact Front" or just "Contact Front" for all teams panic order. Similar to Ambush, but without the "hold fire" order. Basically a order you use when you are ambushed or go into contact. :) *Added Team Five orders for re-enforcement (OA 1.59). Similar to Reinforcement CTI chapter, but for servers which dont allow command hud/tactical view. Example: "Team Five to Team One Armor mode" or "Team Five to Team Red Armor mode". Using the orders "Team White..." needs tactical hud like before. *Added additional formation orders. "Formation +type" since the "All teams formation +type" is too long I think. "All teams formation..." still works. Example: "Formation Column", "Formation Line", "Formation Vee"... etc. *Added "Select team 1-5" to select team Red(1) to White(5). *Updated "Change team X to team X", "1-12 to team X" etc orders to include Team 1-5. (1)Red,(2)Green, (3)Blue, (4)Yellow, (5)White. Example: "Change team Red to team white", "Change team one to team five", "change one to team red", "change one to team one"... etc. *Updated "Team X Return NOW" to include "Team 1-5 Return NOW". *Added "Unit 1-12 move Now" orders to High Command. Works similar to other move now commands, but in HC mode. (Not to be confused with command hud/tactical view). *Added "Team 1-5 information" and "Team X information". This order will give you a voice response on what color or number the team you are asking is. Example: "Team Blue information". Response -Team Blue is team 3- *Updated Readme. More Info on... Contact Front: Ambush: As always I welcome any feedback. Have fun! :)

    CoD clone!?! (Extra Credits)

Who cares? One guy thought Arma is arcady... big deal. Maybe a few Cod player gets the game because of that remark.

    AI spotting enemys per clock

Look on the map. Up is North, now you are oriented in regards to the headings given by your troops, compass or not. ----------------- The problem with the clock thing is that unlike heading the clock is dynamic. If you watch North (12oClock at the time) when a unit starts reporting, but you turn to 3oClock at the same time, 12oClock spotted enemy is suddenly 9oClock. Thats the issue. If they used heading it would never change. However you can overcome this by pressing 2 and looking at the the enemy report. The oClock then will be in regards to where you are currently looking when you pressed 2 regardless of what the AI actually said.
  8. I find this a little interesting. As a lazy person though I think you should add a mission that showcase what you want it to. Is it possible to force a optics view on the camera? If so it might solve your mid screen icon problem...

Arma II Vanilla won't get AI improvements?

I would just splash out for a OA copy for my brother if this was the case tbh. Its now a "old" game so there is bound to be cheap offers around places ether for OA or CO. Steam has sales every once in a while. You will probably get it cheap there once the, hoping, summer sales kicks in.

Has OFP/ARMA put you off the Army ?

I have more or less always liked the military, but I bought OFP because it was a action game. Totally forgot about it during service etc. Only got Arma 2 because I had a new computer and it was the successor to OFP. Some times I think about re enlisting, but I am not sure I will. However my time in the army was really cool. In a way it was like a game. My unit only took in people that where interested in international operations, we had allot of new gear including brand new CV90s, the command structure wasnt harsh, we had large tents with modern fuel heating systems, we where prioritized for combat training (ammo, fuel, etc), but we still used more cold war like tactics, aka fun when its not reality. Think Call of Duty, you vs the world. Well, our scenario, they had videos and everything on big screens showing unit movement etc, total bs, was like the 300 of us would fight about 3000 Russians with Hinds, T72, BMD1 airborne assault troops ,BMP2 etc until the rest of NATO showed up.... Yeah right. I remember when I watched this I could only think about (timestamp dosent work, click then press F5). LOL.Didnt really view it as "discipline" or getting told what to do really. Yes, those things happens and are part of the army, but at the same time there was just as much disregarding of rules. The main point was always to get the job done. Safety was always taken seriously, well as serious as stormtroopers can take it, but apart from that I have done my bit of crazy stuff. Riding Russian style on Leo1 with my squad, being a Mg3 gunner in a cover team with 7 other Mg3 gunners being told to empty a house ala Aliens 2 style(FYI its a Mg3 inside). There where shitty times as well of course. Like freezing my ass off in a hole at -30 watching the forest grow. Almost getting decapitated by a tank, almost getting run over by a tank, almost breaking my leg several times on "maneuvers". Almost getting my leg blown off, almost getting shot in the chest... etc... I did break my finger though. :) As for motivation for doing national service I have always viewed the military to have 3 main goals. **************************************************** 1. Defend the nation. (Democracy, the King, those anti military people that dont like you,but add a rational counter balance to a free system etc). 2. Support alliances that help to "see 1". 3. Steal resources for your nation. I have no issues with ether and because of this I dont really see myself hating other nations soldiers ether, regardless of side. That said, I havent been in combat and I would probably not like the enemy that where trying to kill me, but hate is so much more I think. I would probably be a good recruiter :D
  11. I was playing on a insurgency server a while back and when I pressed the quick action bar (spacebar) for my troops my first action for each unit was "Fire", not the "move" command it usually is. It didnt matter if I was targeting anything or not, looking into the sky or similar. Under "Fire" was the normal "move", but in the editor I couldnt create the same command. Nor did I get it when I joined a CTI server and had units under my command...Of course I forgot to take a picture... The question is how do I recreate this? Is there some situation where this happens or is there some key I have to press similar to left Alt to get the "watch and suppressive" commands? I guess this is something new to OA patch 1.59? Anyone know about this?
  12. JojoTheSlayer

Press Space, first selection is "FIRE"?

Nice, interesting. I can recreate it now with your intel. I am just looking it at it now, but for the bold text did you try using the stop command then fire? (Didnt work, seems there is a max engagement range on ai troops depending on type and or weapon. Which makes sense.) Edit: After doing what you said I get the command. The command stays in the quick menu until: A. Enemy unit is dead and you re order the friendly unit into "engage". B. The enemy unit is not dead, but you order your friendly unit into "no target" then "engage" again. So far, I cant see any pratical use for it. Its similar to "open fire" and "open fire" seem to work better... Pic "FIRE".
  13. JojoTheSlayer

Press Space, first selection is "FIRE"?

Nope, like I said the text was "Fire". It didnt matter where I looked or what status my men was in. I pressed a F key and the first option in the quick menu was "Fire", not engage. If "hold fire" is selected then it will change to "open fire" not just "fire". So its not that. The other thing is that when I selected fire I would get the "attack icon", the one you get when you have a member selected and look at a enemy, but it was green and turned only red if I looked at a enemy, but it wasnt dependent on the usual need to be looking at a enemy.
  14. Was fun. The mission was a little short, but the stuff worked. I like how the skin looks worn, as if the helicopter has been in use for a while and not like many other mods where equipment looks brand new even when it logically, specially old tech, should probably be worn etc...

    Bring back Alt+F4

Ah k. Before the patch you could use it regardless of where you where, but considering that some might press the wrong keys while looking I can see the issue... I though they had removed it from the game since it didnt work anymore in the same way I had used it before.
  16. JojoTheSlayer

    Bring back Alt+F4

Seems alt+f4 to shut down the game dosent work anymore. Can we have it back? Nm.
  17. No, why: If it works as intended its okay, but I foresee units ordered prone in "aware" will kneel up when "auto danger" kicks in, which would be bad in many situations.
  18. Youre replying to a post where I reply to someone saying I got it working, telling me how to do what I just said I did... Then telling me to use the search function to find out what I already know?
  19. @Paratrooper511 I got it working. Did a Steam check thing on the game and started it up via Steam, which I havent done for ages, then installed the patch. Not sure which one of those two made the patch find the game, but thats how I did it. Only thing is, the game seems to auto reset to "keep game updated" when I start it via Steam. Not that its a issue since I use a launcher, just saying. If others have issues with the game later trying to "fix" itself before 1.59 becomes official on Steam that might be it.
  20. I had to put the patch file in the same dir as Arrowhead.exe for it to find the game. I am currently patching, but maybe I have to do the same for the Arma 2 vanilla game as well, or like you, patch is solo to 1.09. That patch cant find OA on Steam it seems...
  21. Well, like it or not, Steam is the current future for PC games just like fps main market is consoles today, but if thats the only side, Steam being slow, I think it would be better to release the patches in line when Steam, the slowest part here, was ready. Why? Because this is a nich game. Its mainly MP for those that still play it, not just own it, and its a bad idea to have regular splitting of the MP community between patches when the community isnt the largest. I also think its not great for BIS, if future sales of their games will be dominated by Steam, that they become viewed as unreliable on Steam, regardless of their level of fault in the situation. ------------- Also, the reason I looked at this thread now. Whats the ETA on the Steam patch?
  22. 1-3 you can do in the editor pretty easily. Making your own mod for stuff like that would only make sense if you where having other people making missions or part of some community where it would make more sense have it as a mod than copy pasting stuff to each mission all the time etc. *If you plot down single units you can group/un-group any of them to the highest ranking one with click and drag while in F2 group mode. *To change the default inventory you can just add the code you want to there init box. Example: Weapon names etc. If this was added on a US soldier he would only have a AK74 and 2xmags. 4. Is a bit more advanced. Some weapon tweaking can be done with config editing. The carry secondary weapon in the primary weapon slot thing I am unsure is possible. Maybe there is a setting that tells where in the inventory the weapon is allowed, but if there is not I think you would need a bit more than just weapons configing to do that. Best way to get some understanding of how configing works, not that I am the best source of knowledge on this matter, is just to get a Pbo tool and veiw some Pbo files. PboView is a decent tool for this. Download some unit mods and open their config.bin files by right clicking the pbo file and select the view pbo option after installing the program.
  23. This is the "get a CoD guy interested" video in my view. YHHv2f4ADwU
  24. The best way to get overwhelming fire on a enemy patrol you surprise is: *Have them in Disengage, Line Formation and Hold fire. *Get them to the ambush point. Look with your head, do not move your body (Num *), to the left and right and see that you guys get into a line. *Tell them to go Prone, Stop and to watch the direction the enemy is coming from. *Once you see the enemy you will notice that you guys says "eyes on target" etc. That means they are ready to fire. Tell them then to open fire and everyone, because they are in stop, will fire at once regardless of range. (Note that how well the are able to hit the enemy relies on range among other stuff.) Man, I never knew I would get so much unrelated use for this video :D. (Skip to 1min mark) 9C-AvhQEufI FYI, if you want to do this with the voice profile just use the command "Team red/blue/green etc Ambush". Then where to watch and when to fire.

    Question about AI teams

Hmm, have to take a look at that when Steam autoupdates since my VAC profile will probably need a update because of this, but what do you think is bad about the new system?
