  1. There are 3 forces that will damage your heli over time. -Over speed (yellow is enough). -Over G. Shouldnt be over 1. (hard turning and such) -Over torque (Should never be red or yellow.) The latter will destroy the engine after a SHORT while and they will shut down and you crash. The others will mainly just make the cockpit shake like hell. If you look on the green collective (speed of main rotor) bar that goes up and down you will see that there is a white mark at about *70%. Thats where you should keep it while flying the Huey most of the time. Use the cycle (joystick) backwards if your altitude is dropping. Only increase the collective for a short while if needed, but never max it out on the Huey because it dosent like it. See TRQ * You can see the white mark just under the green bar in this pic. And if you are wondering. This is what the Hud lights mean. ENG = Engine. If it goes red its game over for the heli. TEMP = Engine temperature. If it goes red the engine is gone after a second. Usually happens if you over torque the engine to long or mess up on the starting process. RPM = Round Pr Min. If its yellow or red it means the engine isnt turning fast enough to keep you in the air. Aka, bad. MROT = Main rotor. The one over your head. If its damaged... Never seen it yellow. Usually it just goes red when you lose the rotor. TRQ = Torque. Its goes yellow and red if the engine in its current situations, gaining altitude, turning, hovering etc, is turning its engine faster than its transmission can handle. If it goes yellow or red you MUST lower the collective strait away or the engine will go fubar! Lower the collective and raise the nose a bit to not fall if thats the issue. (If you have a sensitive collective on your joystick I suggest you max out the dead zone on it in options ingame. Max deadzone is 10%.) ATRQ = Rear rotor. Can go yellow if damaged. Goes red if you lose it. BATT = Battery. Goes yellow and red if you are using more power than you are gaining from the engines. Common and normal at start up and will go away after a while. If you lose a engine on a two engine heli you need to turn on the APU (Rctrl+a) to not lose more than you use. Fuel = Fuel. Goes yellow "early", but you should watch the it. Similar to cars. Hope this helps you out a bit.

    Take On Helicopters II ?

Man, do you use Blakes mods for TOH? If not you should check em out. It vastly improves the Picture in Picture stuff (control access etc) Nothing like flying long line with a functional load cam, which is not just a triggered event... or using one of the other 360 cameras which you can directly control with the top hat on your joystick or similar. I recomment Blakes WorkShop (Pip stuff mainly), Autopilot and sling load (pip sling load cam). The trim indicator also seems good, but I cant get that one to work. Here is a pic of me using the long line cam for the Seattle needle mission. EDIT: I would rather have more DLC for TOH 1, but it needs to have a interesting single player campagin. Take on Hinds was a bit disappointing if it wasnt for the fact that its the only attack helicopter in the game. On a larger scale I actually think Bis should expand DLC production for Arma 3, but instead of low quality stuff people should buy access to key DLC vehicles. So if you are a helicopter freak and bought all the A3 Heli fanatic DLC with TOH standard+ you could fly the helicopters from that, but you could still make a mission that had them in it and play with none DLC people which would see them in HD, but wouldnt have access to use em unless they had the DLC themselves. Except for maybe being none gunner passengers. Would be silly to have a troops transport heli no one could board :D
  3. As the headline says. I just get the feeling that allot of the missiles miss their targets when using lock on. When firing manually, the laser guided ones, its clear that they do hit a bit higher than your aim so I am just wondering it thats the reason allot of the AI shoots miss when the target isnt in a "perfect" position and even when it is it seems to miss from time to time. Anyone else get this or am I doing something wrong?
  4. I agree. Some times I can swap back and forth to manual and cancel manual fire and suddenly the AI goes freaking Rambo with the main turret auto cannon, but usually hes dosent really scan that much (I know about Fx-3-5 "Engage at will" and Fx-3-7 "Scan horizon" command and those make em a bit more aggressive, but not by much in the air). Suggestion. Considering this is a AI issue I would liked if they did the simple think and made the gun follow the where you looked so you could just keep it in manual fire. I think the Apache that this feature once, but I dont remember when or if it was a mod. Trick to avoid the issue to some degree. A trick I use in the Editor at least is that I swap with the gunner. In TOH you have the option of "taking control" from the gunner seat so you can fly like normal. While on the ground I go in the gun seat and the AI in the pilot seat. I order him to start flying somewhere. This is to get him mentally "air born" so he wont try to land every time you "give up control". Once he starts flying somewhere I order him to "Stop". Now the AI is in "air born" mode and "Stop". So whenever you "give up control" from a hover he just stops and however in the direction you where aiming. Making it easy for you to operate the weapons yourself. You can also fly like normal and use lock on etc or you can, for the forward gun Hind, go into the optics and take control while you are in the optics and fly from there. Making it easier to shoot infantry on the ground. Unfortunately, this dosent work in the Hind Challenges because you only get to order the AI once you are in the pilot seat and once there you cant get out... :(
  5. (A) You can tell the AI to scan horizon (360) or any direction in regards to a heading (N,NW,W etc). To do this you press the F key of the gunner, he is one of the guys with the cross hair icon in the tank, and press 3-7 or scan horizon or 3-8 with option 1-8 for heading. (B) Another thing you can do is that if you press the F key for the soldier and hold down left ALT. The icon will change and give you a "Watch there" option. Left click to force the unit to watch there. It only works on the ground or objects, not in the air. (Tip) I also recommend you sett the gunner in "Engage at will" F key 3,5. You will still need to use the command fire for the main gun, but it will usually automatically shoot at enemies it sees with the coax (machine gun on the main gun)if you have swapped to it. If you want to do all this with voice commands check out my sig. It works for IF44 since it uses the same command system as Arma 2. Hope these tips help you out. :)

    Weapon Resting?

Or you could just use a Autohotkey script to change or simply the controls. I use the mid mouse button for it. Example:

    Weapon Resting?

It works great in the trenches as well. Just wish it was a bit more restrictive (slower to turn, limited left right movement) and that you needed to use it (more recoil when not using it). Going prone now gives you what I would call realistic recoil with the bipod in real life. From a MG3 perspective tough, which have shorter casings than a MG42 so the kickback is probably more on the MG42. Another move I only noticed since I have tested the SMK moves is that if you sprint and press the "get over" key you will do a leap over the fence instead of the scissor move.
  8. Even a T55 would kick a Tiger 2s ass. I am also wondering about the porting abilities and some of the issues. Like are most tanks and such in A2 mods linked to BIS models and therefor cant be used... How difficult would it, BIS rules aside, be to port and update a A2 mod tank to IF44 standards. Lastly is it possible with the IF44 models to swap out parts and create other versions of the tanks basically on the same model? Like a lighter T34 with a smaller gun or something...
  9. I had more stable frames at v301 going from v280, but who knows. Maybe 296 is the best one. However I can tell that IF44 is more demanding in the missions than A2 or OA was... Try lowering the settings a bit. Similar to ACE I presume there is more background stuff because of the added features on the tanks and such. I get a similar performance hit in ACE needing to lower texture qualities to Normal to get the same fps I get on high in vanilla. A2CO.

    Plane damage causes CTD?

Same. Did a little dog fighting in the show case mission and the moment the enemy pilots bailed the game CTD. There are also random CTDs in the SP campagin. I am using Steam v1.01.
  11. Got to agree on the tanks. While the system seem good and fine the contacts right now with the current numbers are a bit silly. The crews bails waaaay to late. I hardly think most crews would sit in their tank if a shell penetrated the hull and splattered on of their crew m8s. Now in some contacts you have to kill each enemy AI in the tank via penetration to disable the tank and even at very short ranges with heavy vs light tanks you hardly seem to penetrate at times. At long range I dont mind there being a realistic amount of deflection in fights, but at short range I hardly think this amount of "nothing happens" shots was the reality. Sure, the tank itself might have been salvageable after a contact, but no sane person continues to sits in a tank that just got a 70mm shell through the turret and took the head of the commander. This famous footage comes to mind as a example. NBI9d0-IfEM

    Russian radar systems WIP

Pretty cool stuff. Liked the U2 stuff in the video as well to give the surface stuff a bit more Cold War atmosphere even if its not part of the TBA release.

    New to the Arma series

I would get Arma 2 CO (Main game + Expansion) You can get it at Steam for 25EUR or less depending on where you live. After that if you are looking for a bit more advanced experience over BF3 I would suggest you find a community you have similar gaming interest with. Examples I can recommend are: Arma WarGames (PvP weekly battles in campaigns over several weeks with a high level of organization between two sides. Good number of exMil guys here actually.) United Operations (PvE ACE mod clan that host "drop in drop out" military like missions with structured command, realistic *radios (*YouTube Arma 2 acre) etc.) Thats the basics, but besides that there are two tools I also recommend to keep track of mods and stuff because most communities at this stage use a a few mods. (A) Arma Launcher (A basic launcher gui where you can tick click what mods you want to start etc. Linking this to Steam as a none steam game will also enable shift+tab Steam ingame browser for CO) (B) SixUpdater (Its a must of contentiously updated mods like ACE. Basically its a tool that you, after configured of course, you just run to auto update all your selected mods in one go. A one time hassle to remove xx amount of manual time sinking hassles later...) Lastly, a place to keep up to date with everything Arma 2 related: ArmaHolic (Arma related news, mods and mods download site.)

Last patch released or will there be more?

Both in tandem I would presume. What they fix in A2 carriers over to A3 in a sense anyway, if not directly. So as long as there is a Arma "next" in the works there will be a good amount of patches for the latest. It will be interesting to see how this with continued patches pans out after A3 if they are planning to give the Arma series a rest after its and possible a expansion and DLC, but thats a while ahead...

Underwater element. What is the point?

Nobody wants to mention the possibility of sub combat with mods?

    Running / Sprint / Walk speed ?

You guys have waaay to much time on your hands  Btw, if its not said already there is actually two different walk speeds when you you are aiming down the sights. Normal and slower. Change em by hitting the walk run key.

AI improvement in Arma II from beginning to now

Overall the AI are better than at A2 launch. I would argue some AI mods out there are still better than vanilla, but AI in this game will never get to a human level. Question is; Do you have to fight against AI? If it bothers you that much why not go for PvP... There are a few good PvP oriented communities out there. The Arma Wargames tournament, the one I am in, is almost full, but there are still a few open slots for Sundays weekly PvP battles between two sides. Join one of the two armies and fight to win. No AI, just real humans. http://arma-wargames.com/forum/
  18. The beta is runs like a mod. It will not overwrite the standard patch. Just run the beta installer and you are good to go. Most servers allow beta users. If not just shut down the game and start it without the beta. On the flying though I just use the analog throttle slider on the none analog increase and decrease buttons. Max or nothing makes it easier to fly in Arma 2, I think. In the Take on Helicopter demo though its different because of the flight mechanics, but in Arma 2 you could use the above if you have issues besides the beta.

    Avaliable Q4 2012?

I already have a i7-920, 6gigs and a GTX480 so could wait even a bit more than a year, but even if I couldnt I would wait for Ivy Bridge before upgrading CPU/Motherboard. Unless you wanna pay the same price for something that is not mainstream anymore only a few months from now.

    Avaliable Q4 2012?

Q4 only mean your future planed upgrades to run the game will be cheaper.

Arma 3 with 1,000 players online .. possible?

This is PlanetSide 1 (2003). Really looking forward for PlanetSide 2 this year for that kind of MMO-FPS action, but in regards to Arma 3 I would be glad with a 100 player lag free experience. There are limits to what kind of hardware communities can pay for and so on. I mean, PS1 had Sony big bucks mmo hardware, so will 2. Where I play Arma, wont.

Steamworks, add it in or not?

I know more Arma people that use Steam than Six updater and that includes the "six updater" clan I play with regularly. Stuff like Steam Workshop would greatly improve access to mods for the average Arma user. You are right, thats not me. I have Arma Launcher, Six updater and etc installed already. Also have... about 66gigs of mods. Hardly the average I would presume, but I am not arguing for whats best for me, but the Arma community as I see it beyond the borders of the peeps using this forum. I would bet most mod creators would like their work to be seen by as many people as possible and Steam makes that access easier for the majority. Specially when most of the Arma 2/Steam issues talked about here are directly linked to the fact that there is a none Steam version of Arma 2, not the other way around like most Steam haters wants people to believe. Steam WorkShop tag text for Skyrim: With a few alterations and launch options I could see this system work very well for Arma 3. Might even bring in some new players to peoples ultra many mod servers out there.

Steamworks, add it in or not?

This isnt true. I have my comp on 24/7 and I am connected to Steam and its stats rivals my dsl modems online stats. I have about 800 hours logged in Steam on Arma 2/OA/CO. I wouldnt have that if it was unstable... If Steam goes down you might have issues with Valve games, using the same server network, but not necessarily other MP games. Steam also has a offline mode which makes it possible to access games that use Gamespy to get online like Arma.

    Which Arma Should i buy

Agree. If you dont buy Combined operations or something similar that contain both the base game and its stand alone expansion and you like they game you will probably pay more in total by getting the rest later. Another thing is that if you are into MP gaming you really need Combined to be able to play on the better servers. That said I recommend finding communities within the bar "arcade vs realism" level you like.

    music in arma

Its not gonna be like that... Welcome to 2012 where remixing old scores equal dubstep. Example: FROM: iatSWM6q7rc TO: y3TrjEuXuNw So expect future looking hardware and dubstep in A3! I have no basis for claiming this, so it might be true. Just saying.
