So many clans, such little acitivity

Pycho,I seem to remember you being on my server and ragging on it. You ask for teamwork and then refuse to use the tools which would allow you to fully participate on the server. The best part is 5 minutes after you left we were full and had a great game with lots of great public players working as a team.

British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update

The warrior is immense! The blast of those 40mm HE shell's is lethal to pretty much anything
  3. Dell XPS420, as it came from dell with no upgrades. Quad core 2.33GHz Ati HD4850 512mb 3gb ram Runs Arrowhead with every setting at its highest including AA, with 5km viewdistance @1600x900 (Screen and 3D res). At 30-40fps. Its a massive performance step from Arma2 vannila, they did some awesome work on arrowhead thats for sure.
  4. Me also. I was playing CTi mountain warfare on my LAN and took a chinook full of troops to an airbase near a town I wanted. Took a bit of fire coming in but my gunners dealt with that fast and I had no casualties in the air. I landed as normal and as each man got out I'd say every third man said "wounded" "injured" " I need help" and went prone and would not move.

    Voice Acting?

The problem with the English voice acting ( the only exeption being the scripted story acting) is that the phrases themselves are not formed from 1 piece of audio. Is is individual words and groups of words strung together. This creates the disjointed robotic sound of the voice, because when we speak phrases the words flow evenly rather than being pieced together from a library. Maybe the engine handles this method better, or maybe it was a time/cost cutting measure. To record every sentence of the game with multiple actors and no breaks would take a lot.
  6. Did anyone else have 4 M1a2 TUSK tanks appear during the mission? I had the Enemy base up by the dam and as I was moving up the overlooking forested mountain , from east this group of tanks starts storming down the mountain and over the dam! They wiped out all but maybe 2 or 3 men in the base , I was really confused because every other time Id just been assisted by another APC.
  7. Soundtrack composition is one of my lines of work. Ill see if I can put a little somthing together for you. Any detail about what you want would be good, like a description of the scenes, or the scene itself without sound would be even better. I can also do a voiceover and effects mix if you want.

    spraying bullets!

Well the A-10 gun has always had a spray to it, just like it should.
  9. I love the spray of shells on the Apache's cannon and I hope we see similar effects on the rest of the auto-cannons later on because at the moment they are like laser guns! The LAV puts round after round on the same spot at 3km! Very poor for attacking groups and long range areas. The Eagle Wing Campaign is also very good, the scripting and acting seems to be much better than the main missions. The scenarios flow very nicely into one and other.

    ArmA 2 vs Project reality?

PR as it is now delivers a much more satisfying online experience in my oppinion. I always get better player interaction, better team play and a steady choice of great servers that are nearly always full of excellent players. I've been in single squads that have held off the entire opposing team for upwards of an hour due to teamwork and good fire control Very well done maps, good kit system ( basic rifle squad kit and limited support kit), good squad and command system, good comm radial system. And yeah like a previous poster said, the suppressive fire effects are great! When an angry MEC gunner is shooting his vehicle's .50 at us across the waterfront on Mutrah, or a Insurgent group has sighted with Ak's and RPG's in the valley we sure as hell know about it!! Screen goes all to hell blurred and dirty, accuracy is none, can't hear anything but a ringing and the sound of round wizzing by and kicking up dirt and stone. And yes the BF engine is limited, but the PR team have maxed it out as far as they can now - and my God they have done an excellent job, and you must remember they are just a mod team not a game studio! I believe they are currently looking at licensing a new engine for their work.

    Uber Ka-50

Would Russia really send such high-level, not to mention rare into into a conflict on the scale of Chernarus? To me it seems almost like rolling over the Taliban with Challenger 2's, Fun but certainly not sporting!

Ah thats my bad then, the USMC may still use the cannon but I've read reports from troops in Afghan saying that "RAF harrier support without the cannon is now useless". I think they replaced the cannon with some sort of electronics pod for ground attack since our guys justt got some new munitions, since the game is about USMC that doesn't matter.

    Uber Ka-50

The Harriers from the 70's/80's certainly had a good air-to-air reputation against a faster and some might say overall better A2A fighter in the Mirage-2000. The latest RAF GR9 / USMC Av8B are mostly geared out as A2G aircraft with bombs and rockets due to current conflicts but still retain a formidable A2A armament and would realistically defeat any helicopter and a many fighters encountered in the area Chernarus is based on and M.E today and live to fight another day thanks to enhanced electronics and countermeasures. I have played with the Ka-50 a fair bit in the editor and managed a 1:4 ratio against harriers before they could defeat me. It literally is a point and click turkey shoot. And a minor inaccuracy I noticed about the Harrier in game, It appears to have a 20mm rotary cannon which as far as I understand never appeared on the Harrier. The cannon it used was a twin 30mm single barrel cannons, which are no longer used.

    hardware suggestion

Depends on your powersupply, If you can only use 1 power connector The HD4850/HD5770 have very good price-performance to power ratio. If you have no power connector the HD4670 is about as good as it gets untill the HD56xx comes out.

    Thwump Hit Recognition Sound

I've heard a thwack sound after hitting a guy at the other end of the Utes airport in warfare. Must have been what, 6-700m?
  16. Yes much a much wider scene is being rendered (4:3 vs. 16:9) but I have more FPS and it all looks better. It only slowed down when I put my fillrate uptoo 3200x1800 (200%)
  17. Right so up until today Id been playing Arma2 on my old Dell 17" screen, 1280x1024, 4:3, 60hz ect. All settings on max except AA on low, View on 2500 and fill-rate matching my resolution, performance seemed to vary from poor to great. I went out today and got a 20" Samsung, 1600x900, 16:9, 60 hz ect. Now with all the same settings the performance is consistently fantastic!! I cannot believe what I have been missing these past few months. I really cannot think of why this would be, could Arma be generally more efficient at certain resolutions? By the way I have a fairly modest system, I was on budget for a machine I could use along side my Macbook in my studio and it cost around £500 or so in their weekly deals. Dell XPS 430 Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33Ghz 3gb DDR3 1067mhz Ati HD4850 512mb standard clocks 500gb 7200rpm HDD
  18. It was an LCD, came with my old Inspiron system from 2004/2005. We got rid of our CRT's in 2002 when we got rid of our Gateway system!
  19. Is it possible their is a behavior amongst AI of use the strongest weapon first? Infantry seem happy enough to RPG other infantry the use their rifle, and Tanks will use Sabot against infantry too untill they run out.

Why cant it sound like this?

I find that as software is getting better it takes less and less to get good stuff made. I've seen guys go from nothing to great in mere months. Eventually, maybe not even in my lifetime, technology will replace talent in my oppinion. Im actually doing my major project dissertation on that very subject, although more in the music production field rather than interactive media, still a lot of skills do carry over at the moment especially in film dubbing and such. And yes there is a lot of learning. Im in my 6th year of education in sound, and I still learn new things everyday, and everyday I find new ways to implement these new skills in my work.

Why cant it sound like this?

You can't just bounce out a raw sound and be ready to rock, personally I've never come across audio of any kind that can pass without processing. I've also never seen a engineer work so well with mics and outboard that I've had no work to do in software. Even a top of the line snare drum recorded with £1000's worth of mics running into best console will still need processing. If someone is good enough to bypass that entire process I for one would like to be show how.

    Game CPU Load

Quad Core 2.33Ghz running at about 75% most of the time, not sure on which cores though, I think its only on 2. Nears 100% and I have extreme lag on the main menu.

Why cant it sound like this?

Well yes the location recording would be easy enough, you can record anything with a few SM57's and a C414, I've probably recorded bands with less in the past, but really you need to follow that up with good processing - and I don't know about you but I don't think many people are going to have decent ProTools or Logic Rigs. For example Rockstar games have 2 ProTools HD studio's, EA will without a doubt have even more.

    Dragon Rising has been released

One thing is see a lot is about how franchises are ruined, eg Ghost Recon, R6. I must be the only person to have played them all as they came out and extremely enjoyed every single one of them. Sure theres been differences, but as consistently great games you cannot fault them. The same certainly applies to the OFP/Arma/DR situation. There have been changes, change can be good. Why can't everyone just enjoy the games for what they are? Both games are let down by scale. Somtimes Arma can be way too big, and DR way too small. Although this does make for some great moments in both games. Tank charges with aircraft support rock in Arma, but going building to building in a small town in DR rocks also. Switch it around and "OMGZ this gamez broken I cant see far enough, Cm sucks/ Bis sucks, why cant I go in the house". Neither game is perfect, so don't pretend they are. And a short word about player numbers, BF2 is nearly 5 years old, And consistently has 1250 full servers going 24 hours a day, thats about 80,000 people. More than Cod4 and WaW get on Xbox Live and PSN. While the game is not to everyones taste ( personally I love it) , that is certainly a feat everyone should respect, and all developers should be looking to achieve for their own games.
