  1. And it sounds stupid, but one day we will be thankful to this "hacker", since he realized probably that this is the only way to get BIS' priorities to this problem, because some code example in the feedback tracker would never get any votes, while nobody experienced it yet (the seeing-is-believing-syndrome). Of course he should have just put a hint box or smth, instead of spawning in the air, but that would not create this big stirr.

And that points out the major flaw in the feedback tracker, since fixes that are not "Sexy" enough (who cares about a Uinamespace when you never heard about it?) will never make it to the top, and may be buried in the more popular issues.

Yes, we´ll be thankful to this hacker since this security issue has been discussed by (other?) persons already over and over again. He was not the only one realized those issues. All he did was trying to force BIS implement Security Content first. But that´s a goal, every Server Administrator likes. Do we hack because we want it? - No! We play by BIS rules and report it to the Tracker.

All in all... I have to totally agree with gamesturbator again. He got his attention, his goal that BIS will discuss it. So please dear Hacker: Stop it and use Forums plus Feedbacktracker like everyone does.

  2. Second, this guy has done this community a huge favor. This vulnerability was presented to BIS awhile ago and they completely ignored it. So blame BIS for terrible security implementation, don't blame the guy that's trying to ensure that the final product isn't ruined by future exploits.

I fully ignore what you just wrote except quoted...

He could do everyone a favour in using the feedback tracker like everyone else and take it that this is just an ALPHA where content still lacks until Beta/full. There is a VOTING Option in the Tracker aswell.. I am pretty sure people who understand this problem would vote up!

I´m not saying you are wrong or right and I won´t blame BIS, but annoying players who can´t script or let´s say are not working on the Game is not a solution to "ensure that the final product isn´t ruined by future exploits"

  3. Yes we all know it´s an Alpha for the love of God :p

But that the game has leaks security wise is not since ArmA 3 Alpha. For Instance, set Vehicle init could be run since OFP.

(My) Fact: BIS needs to solve the Security issues / add the Security Content (and now so you dont get me wrong) BEFORE even adding make-up effects or similar.

All I´m saying is, that we want to test the Game and track down Bugs and give out Suggestions to the Devs so this game will become a Masterpiece. But to do so, we need some sort of basic backbone. And that should contain Security in my honest Opinion!

  4. Has anybody tried overwriting BIS_fnc_MP with BIS_fnc_MP = {}; in the init.sqf of his mission yet?

We are currently working on a small server-side Addon but we´ll need to test it with many players since we can´t obivously get the hack by ourselves. So everyone who wants to help out testing, just fill our ACRE Server. (Addon will be implemented for testing today, at about 2 PM GMT+1).

Not sure how this will turn out though ! :D

    Any help is appreciated!

You can find IP-Adress and Server name in my Signature!

    Best Regards

    Hammer

  5. I´m pretty p***ed right now about this to be honest. It looks like this is saved to the Clients computer as I just restarted the Server and passworded it. Noone else except me on the Server.

Had a full server then people had to leave again because of script kiddies who like to take a joke on our costs! Our Server is not the only one..it´s every single Server!

Verify Signatures is not enough. Get it sorted ASAP please! :(

  6. Is that depending on the mission you're playing? I seem to have pretty stable FPS in multiplayer, sometimes higher because the AI processing seems to lag my client down when I play some missions locally. I tend to play on small servers though (<=10 players, <=100 AI).

Yes, it´s depending on the Mission... e.g AI count and difficulties!

  7. I'm pretty sure my server provider isn't going to give me the ability to use task manager on his server. I'll ask, but I have a feeling that it isn't going to fly. Also I still have to have a Steam account on that server - which means either I have to create another account (because I sure as hell am not setting up my account on someone else's server).

So - like I said - "where is the dedicated server.exe" and one that isn't going to require me to either buy another copy of the game or use my steam account on someone else's computer. In other words; like we had for Arma 1, Arma 2 and Arma 2:CO.

Sure there are workarounds for Arma 3 (and I have checked them out) and I give big credit to the people who have done that - but a workaround isn't what the community should be expecting - we should be expecting something that fulfills our requirements without us having to purchase additional copies of the game (or give out our private account information to another source).

Ah you might use a Gameserver provider then, where you for example pay for slots, right? Then you won´t get root access. ;-)

I´ve rent a Root Server with Access to Taskmanager and what not and I´m administrating it through RDP like a remote Computer. Works the best in my opinion when you have your own 'castle' ;-)

The workarounds may not fulfill the expectations for the community that much, but I think it´s not a big deal to set Steam in Offline Mode after logging into your Account?

    Derailing a bit:

You are saying that the 'Administraitor' is going to use your data for his private interests? That would be against any Administrator's philosophy and Laws!

I claim that people are okay with revealing Personal Data in Social Networks, using Smartphones and let Apps use their ridicolous Permissions like GPS, reading your Telephone Contacts, Bluetooth + Networkstate and browsing your files on your telephone and / sd card even though it´s just a Cooking-book APP. People already know enough about you :P

I mean, it´s your decision and I didn´t mean to attack you or whatever (just throwing in my opinion) , but I don´t get why it would THEN be a problem to login your Steam account yourself, set everything up, go to offline mode, login and start the server?

And still... That workaround doesn´t require you to either buy another copy of the game. I guess we´d still have to wait for the dedicated.exe ;-)

  8. From what I understand - we use a dedicated server provider; we need a Steam account and a copy of A3 on the server. We then need another steam account and another copy of A3 to be on the headless client computer (this cannot be on the same server as the 'server' after one of the recent updates). If you are running a server on your own computer you can play the 'online/offline' stuff and start it up. I don't want to bother with that as it would be a logistical headache for me and my guys.

With Arma 2 we just 'rent' our server - we didn't have to provide anything to the server provider other than our money you could even setup HC on the same server. With A3 you need a Steam account. With HC you need another Steam account (unless they fixed that) and a different computer.

Hence why I am impatiently waiting for dedicated server files from BIS, I see no need to buy multiple copies of the game so we can run our server.

I have a Rootserver and use the Offline method. It´s only 1 account. I can still connect with my account on the Server with no problem. A HC does not need a seperate steam account. (Runs from my account aswell ).

  9. Hi!

I have this kind multiplayer problem. My game runs under 20fps even all low settings at multiplayer. Singleplayer tutorial and events runs over 60fps all maxed to ultra settings. Resolution what i am using is 1980x1080.

    Is it somekind of bug?

    My computer specs are

So please tell me what to change or do that my game would run little bit smoother.

And i bought Digital Deluxe Edition from Steam.

Latency is alright all the time.

    Thank You!

I think you are derailing the topic?! ;-)

It depends on what Mission is running on MP. AI / Scripts do affect your FPS pretty much. Plus, you have other Players on the Server aswell! ;-)
