Arma 1 soldiers sucessfully ported to arma2
Game__On replied to takealready's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MODELLING - (O2)
How can you see your own face in arma 2 ? My idiot character keeps turning his head away :o -
One thing to those who cannot get it to work. DON"T NAME THE FACE "FACE.JPG" . Just name it "FACE" . Also i have a question. Aren't the faces earlier in this thread to big of size ? Even after resizing them to 512 x 512 they are 134 Kb .

Thank you. I lol'd very hard. :D

I'm considering getting an SSD(rive) so the awful loading from disk can be done faster. However, i need to know how much data is being written on the disk while playing. Like how much data in an hour or so, as you know that SSD only have a number of cycles it can be written on. How long would an SSD survive ? For instance, the intel 25 m 64GB is guaranteed to work for 5 years when 20GB a day is written on it. But how much is that 20GB actually when playing arma 2 ? My guess is not that much, and you will exceed that after a couple of hours of playing right ?
-
I read that as long as you don't defrag the ssd drives have no noticable less liefespan than normal drives ? The data on these drives is supposed to be fragmented, exactly for lifespan reasons.

Force AI to "Regroup"

ehm, spacebar : Regroup ? Or is that not what you meant -
Could people be confused and offended by this ?
Game__On posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok i finally managed to do it. However i have a concern. Does anybody think that people could mistake this flag with cross for you know,... the bad cross ? -

Game__On replied to Game__On's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok :) -
I sometimes see players with flags on their arms (or their face even) . I want a flag to :( . Just a nation flag on one of my arms. Anybody have a file i can just replace and be done with it perhaps ? Or does it not work like that ?

If you haven't already done so (Install the beta patch)
Game__On replied to chlywly's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Ok i had the wrong one. Is it correct that this patch install very fast ? It says 100% in about 1 or 2 seconds and the progres bar is full, but the pages (icon) keeps going ? -

Game__On replied to chlywly's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Strange. The change log looks exactly like patch 1.03 ? Or am i just blind edit* Also, when i install, it says it will patch up to 1.03 ? Is this the right link ? -
GT300 is still at least 6 months off though. So to those who want to wait, they may be waiting for what i think is quite a long time. About the GT300 being twice as fast. Well that's quite a jump up . There's nothing concrete on that and it often seems that when specs are getting out there performance is over estimated. It would be awesome though, but i am reserved about it. But again, it'll take some time before we know for sure.

Oooh , i never even saw that chat message LoL . Must have been some situation thx again man. That list was EXACTLY what i was looking for . edit* Ok i got the face working. But i can't make any changes to it. Whenever i slap something on the arms or face or anywhere on that jpeg it does not show in the game ?!?! How is that even possible . The camo works and stuff, but thta's it . **edit Ok fixed it. I had to restart the game omg :-))

Yes i know what you mean. For a brief period i was considering tri-sli , but with more than 2 cards comes another set of problems. Read up on 'microstuttering' for instance. However, it would be nice to see some benchmarks of tri sli or quad sli with this game in particular. Google 'sli zone' , or check 'nvnews' perhaps.

heeey whopper ! :) We did speak in teamspeak did we not ? You told me about 'wip' in the game  . I remember it distincly , i wrote it down and gave you my thanks. :) You got a screenshot of your custom face perhaps ? Cause that i must have missed then , it was kind of a busy game indeed :D I found this "102 custom faces" pack on WIP like you said, will be toying with them tomorrow, as i don't exaclty know how it works yet.
-
ah thx man. However it all looks to complicated for my puny brain :( Is there not some sort of huge gallery where i can pick custom items from and just put them in some folder ?
-
Hey man, what you play with that hotas setup ? (just clicked on your sig)
-
Yes you can mix brands lol . About the clockspeed , i think your other card will run at the clockspeed of the lower clocked card. Not sure though. But it works, i'm 100% sure of that. Same clockspeed or not. p.s: How do that quad sli is working out for you with arma 2 ? (Richard)

Weird about all the crashing going on. I get a crash every once in 15 hours or so, BUT there is one more certain way to crash if i want to. Heal at a chopper. > plop i'm out of the game. :(

QuadCore VS Dual, Multiple OS's Test. Post Your Results Please
Game__On replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No it's in the driver. To the opening post. Testing quad vs dual core performance can't really be done with standing somewhere and comparing frames in one single shot unfortunately. There's much more going on when you for instance start to move, run, shoot and what not. I am not sure if the enemy A.I is as taxing on the system as it't thought of, but it definately plays a role to. Maybe it's just best to download the demo and test with the little benchmark inside to see if dual core of quad core is faster. Also, if you're GPU limited you're gpu limited, and dual or quad core will not make much of a difference. Let me search for this test i found online, specific about arma 2, dual cores, single cores, and i7 cpu's . brb edit* well that was fast :D . http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,687620/ArmA-2-tested-Benchmarks-with-18-CPUs/Practice/ I went from an E8600 @4,2 ghz to this current i7, and according to the article it should be about 40% faster. Well i think that is a bit stretched. It's more like 25-30 % in my case. Also this is just one of many articles, i really have no idea if it can be trusted. But i'm pretty sure it's better to run arma 2 on a dual core then a single core, and preferably on a quad core. Last edit* Here's the graphic card article by the same people. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,685770/Armed-Assault-2-Graphics-card-benchmarks-and-visual-quality-compared/Practice/ -

Game__On replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Saying 'downright stupid', actually was downright stupid of me. I did not mean it in a bad way but i worded it very silly. sry for that. I did mention 'unless you are cpu limited' , which i think is going on for a lot of people here indeed. My point was (and maybe i misunderstood your post) is only that SLI does work , and very good as well. But you are right though, your cpu can't be the bottleneck, or else sli might actually hurt performance. But again, for that to happen you must be severy cpu bottlenecked. edit* You haven't included your pc specs in the post where you said non SLI beat SLI . What specs are you running ? -

Game__On replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I can't believe this "Is sli working?" is still an issue. It's working as good as it possibly can in this game actually. Turning off SLI is downright stupid. UNLESS you are cpu limited in a horrible way that is. Here's some pictures i took to demonstrate. First one, typical scenario, in a town with some buildings and some trees. SLI is working nicely, altough still a bit CPU limited as the scaling is not near about 75% . Second, a clear case of cpu limitation. Not much going on in this screen. One building, lots of blue sky, and some grass and crap. Definately cpu limited as SLI scaling is not max by a long shot. Still + 30 frames mind you compared to no sli . Third one, close to a tree , much of screen filled with foliage. Video cards definately get stressed here . Still decent frames though thanks to both cards scaling quite well. Without SLI you can almost cut those frames in HALF. Which is not very pleasant to play with. Last one, standing 3 feet from a tree looking into it. Video cards are getting their asses handed to them :butbut: . Still almost decent frames because SLI is scaling a very near 100% . Both cards are being used at fullest. So unless your cpu is from the stone age, turning off SLI is definately not an option. As for the multiple cores vs 1 core mentioned earlier in this thread, that may be true if you go back in time 2 years , but todays programs and games can definately utilize more then one core. I would not even try to play arma 2 on a single core, not even if it were running at 6 ghz -
Multiplayer in Arma 2 - Is Warping (Lag) and Cheats still an issue?

I see. Thx for this clear answer. +1 -
Multiplayer in Arma 2 - Is Warping (Lag) and Cheats still an issue?
Game__On replied to garack666's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
It's actually 2 of them. (vid cards) . Could that be causing the warping perhaps ? SLI ? I usually play on servers that are close to me, where ping shows as 16 . Thing is, i have never ever seen an enemy run sideways from me (from far away) without skipping meters. It's REALLY annoying. I do not get this in single player, so i think it has to be a server issue ? Hmm i'll try disabling sli and see if it changes anything online. I've tried everything else so why not :d .
