Underground sources just leaked that the already-awaited-by-many Arma2 patch number 1.04 will be released as Arma3 v1.0 in Q4 2009. Available only as Value Pack bundled with Arma1 v.1.78 for just a tiny 89 USD. Yes, I was trolling. And - yes, I do know that this one will be locked soon. But - HELL YES, I am also a pretty much urinated-off customer who just wanted to state: BIS, this is not funny anymore! Learn your lessons before the "community" does! Out.

I don't see any impact on performance by the 1.03 patch - I'm still locked to a stuttering and unplayable 25..27 fps in the campaign as soon as AI or structures are around. Arma2, like Arma1, is just that: A sad joke about fooled customers, buggy code and unused potential. Maybe in a year or so it will be patched playable for 90% of us, but until then: CM, please don't disappoint us. You just saw how not to do it.

CTD when 1.03 trying to load 1.02 save?
roots replied to whopper_with_cheese's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
sorry, haven't finished d/ling the patch yet. besides the save issue - some first statements about the patch?! -
I'm sure he didn't mean "quality" but "quantity", cause that is what counts, isn't it?!
-
We should be careful with those inflate-mates - maybe they're some kind of mutated Pinocchio?! Then you better think twice if he signals "got your back" ...

diclofenac gel usually does the trick for me, or an ice pack in severe cases. p.s.: nope sorry, can't help you with any fix! good luck! ;)

Arma 2 and Hard Drive Performance
roots replied to Game__On's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I can't tell for Arma2 because I did not play it off any other media yet, but I found SSDs to affect gameplay to some extent in other games. Especially if entering "new" areas of maps or if Win feels the need to go swapping for fun's sake... Loading times is another chapter, I found them to go 1/2 to 1/5 with different games when switching from my not-so-slow 250G Barracuda. That is nice, indeed... -
Arma 2 and Hard Drive Performance
roots replied to Game__On's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm running Arma2 on an Areca1210 RAID0 of 2x MTRON 32Gb 7535 SSDs and I can't complain about loading delay or stutters the like. My problems lie elsewhere, namely with the game's obvious inability to deal with performant hardware thrown at it. P.S.: Apart from the fact that the above are SLC drives, the RAID0 + controller cache effectively eliminate write performance issues. -
Maybe you should read both my posts and the forums more thoroughly. Btw. - my post count doesn't tell you anything about how much I've already read in this and other forums, does it?

have you checked your drivers? :D

Maybe the future gaming industry should be run be women: They usually don't like premature releases that much...
-
Are you kidding me? Take a look around the forums - there are plenty of people who suffer CTDs and severe performance issues that are related neither to quality setting nor to their hardware. What you call that? "Oh sorry, you see, some of our customers actually are able to take this BMW model past 40 mph...but we don't know why you can't...just stand by...this issue might be fixed within the next months..." ....

I am no doubt aware of that. But I'm not talking about some distorted textures that 2% of the users will see every 57h of playtime. I'm talking about severe code insufficiencies that affect a majority of the customers every time they run the software. Code insufficiencies that the devs not doubt must have been aware of before the game's release, unless they never actually ran the game outside stepwise debug mode. However, the gaming industry's marketing policy has more and more become "just release it, those idiots will buy it anyway...". This, in fact, would hardly work with any other kind of products. Call it unfortunately or not, the customer takes a major responsibility in this process as soon as he - naively expecting to get a working piece of software - buys the game right on release. If people, and this will certainly never happen, learnt their lessons from a large number of utterly unfinished releases over the past years, waited for the game to be tested by a number of mags & gaming sites and then decided whether to buy it or wait half a year before it has become patched to a certain degree of useability, devs and publishers alike were forced to think twice before they tag it gold status. would you buy a book with 5% of the text pages unreadably blurred? would you get a DVD player where the play button is jammed every 10th actuation? ....

I just hope BIS addresses the most annoying issue with the game: The AI bug (?) that caps FPS to some 24..27 in the SP campaign even if the CPU is only running at 50% load and NO MATTER what display settings are chosen. I suggest we initiate a worldwide petition to introduce some sort of "warranty of completeness" for software, protecting the customer from unfinished products. if we had such, no dev would dare to release a game before it has been cleaned of severe and reproducible bugs. but enough of that.
