  1. This happened to me and I most definately did not have a pirated version of the game, I think there are a few threads on this, one of them suggests reducing the viewdistance and then trying again - this worked for me..... And is one of the many reasons I then got rid of the game :)
  2. If it worked, I'd love it, as it is, it simply doesn't. I'm very dissapointed, this game has put me off not just BIS products but PC gaming in general, so much so I just traded Arma 2 in and got Flashpoint for the 360 and have been thoroughly enjoying that, I just feel a bit sad that I can't play Arma 2 and have the same experience as Dragon Rising just doesn't have the depth on offer with Arma, but at least what it does offer works, and that's enough for me. Anyway - Good luck to those who persevere, I can't say I didn't have any fun with the game, and I can certainly see the potential, but I certainly wouldn't reccomend this to anyone.   3. Ok, so It took a while to make sure eveything was installed etc last night and I have only really been able to put it through it's paces to a limited extent. After re:installing and patching, I noticed a few small details seemed to have changed and am wondering if the patches had kicked in when I originally installed them. So , a more simple situation than when I was really getting annoyed with here..(I had tried from inside a helicopter flying directly above tanks and APCs I couldn't see and whilst running through fields in a straight infantryman view as opposed to through binoculars here - but this was the quickest example I could think of since it took a while to re:install the game and I didn't have time to setup the same senario's) Taking into account what I now know going by what people are posting here, this seems like it's a perception thing on my part, although, I still need to try this in the situations I was using to make it clearer, for this I've not really had time, I'll give it a shot sometime next week and see how I get on. language="English"; Thanks guys, @ kklownboy it's an LCD/FLatscreen job, pretty much certain that it matched the display resolution, so we're cooking there. @ mils - gotcha, I was wondering what the connection was and if it differed. This however still doesn't sit easy, in fact I've just re:installed and will perhaps try to grab some screenshots or something - along with the settings. The thing that's bugging me is that I had the draw distance to around half, now at around 1000-4000 you can see hills, houses , cars etc to around 1km, so going by what's been said, if I half that , I should see the enemy within a range of around 500m ish. But I'm looking at people that are around 2 football fields distance, around 2-300m and I'm not seeing them. The reason I kept playing with it was because I'm thinking, the game is pretty realistic, they wouldn't call anything they couldn't see, so I should see something here, and it was only by playing with the draw distance and setting it to a very high setting I could see anything, and when the enemy were revealed, it was not as little pin-pricks, but as objects that on screen were about 2 inches tall. I feel that's far too close to require the draw distance to be anything over even a quarter to spot, but now that you've given me that nugget of info, I'll hopefully be in a better position to judge :) Obviously my info here is quite rough, so I appreciate you guys taking the time here - thanks again !
  5. yes, I think that brings a problem then, because that file was wiped when I un-installed. My monitor is 1280x1024, so I was running the display and the render resolution at this. I'm going to re:install it and see if I can replicate the problem again, I'll put the output from that file here for people to have a looksee - nice one ! For reference, does the render and display res have much of an impact on the performance ? I couldn't really get my head around some of the explanations flying around here.

Hmmm, this could be a problem, 1, I'm not sure what would be required by this (I'm guessing it's the contents of the config file in documents/arma 2), 2, I've uninstalled the game now - although I did find a relevant config file it might not be any use as I chopped and changed and this might not reflect accurately the settings I was playing round while I was checking this.... I wasn't sure of the reaction I'd get, if there are a few here that would be interested and if it would be helpful, I'd be happy to re:install, put everything to the way it was and then send the configs as of discovering the problem, as long as I know what the right info would be of course.   7. It's a difficult concept to get across without confusing myself I'm afraid. Basically, you have draw distance, when you change this - you can see mountains, terrain, etc generally contracting or expanding, that is you can see further or not as I'm sure you are aware. What I'm complaining about is that enemies within this distance are not visible. So I can overlook an area, I can see everything within this area, objects, houses, cars, cows, rabbits/whatever, but I cannot see enemy structures or personel. This means I can have squad-mates call out enemies, but I can't see them, even if they do happen to be out in the open and right in front of me. The only way I can see them is to turn the draw distance right up to maximum, which should not be neccesarry, I'm not talking about spotting enemies several KM away, we're talking within a few hundred metres....
  8. A couple of things right now are making the game almost completely unplayable for me and I wondered if others had experienced this sort of problem. I have looked through these forums but can't see the precise issues, although perhaps it's because I'm not aware of the correct terminology, you must forgive this please, I'm not as hardcore as many of the people on this board and apolagies if I'm lacking the correct protocol :) Issue 1 - draw distance RE: Draw distance. When first playing the game I was always wondering why I could never see any of the enemies called by my squadmates or myself. An example would be in the secops where you might be called to engage and enemy camp, I'd rock up and take a look from a nearby hilltop looking at exactly the spot marked as being the camp. Using binoculars, I'd never be able to spot anything despite my map showing a number of red markers denoting enemies. I could see buildings and objects placed further than the enemy, so didn't immediately think to tweak the draw distance. When I did, surprise surprise I can see the enemy encampment. Job done you'd think, but not really as we're talking - I had to put the draw distance to almost maximum to see this and we're talking I'm looking from a distance of a virtual 100-400metres, therefore hills, objects etc are all clearly visible around the space where the enemy 'should' be. Basically it seems that there is a bit of confusion for me over the effect the draw distance has, as it seems to effect units as it were differently from say buildings, animals etc. Bottom line is that on a medium draw distance or below, I can't see any enemy unit past a distance of around 50/100 metres or so, which means I can't really play this game as my rig (Dell XPS 1530, w/ Nvidia 8600GT, 2G Ram + Intel Core Duo T7250 @ 2.00 GHz) will only really allow me to play this game on medium or low settings without turning into a glitch fest and even then, mostly I play on low settings as it's far more fluid to play. Another way of explaining this is if you use the mission editor, place yourself as a sniper, put an enemy at about 300m in plain sight, then play, scope the enemy with draw distance around 1/4 - 1/2 (sorry for inprecise settings) and see if you can see him, in my experience, you can't but you can see terrain, trees etc, then go tweak the distance to max and he is 'revealed' with no change to the detail on the terrain. Issue 2 - Weird AI I recently created a mission where I play on one of the Dams in Chernarus - it's to the Northwest of Kranostav (Poblaa Dam ?). I inserted on one side of the dam and made my way over the dam to the other side and wondered why my squadmates were taking so long to catch up, turns out the decided to swim across ! I tried many ways of making them walk across the dam to no avail, seems they only want to swim, which is totally useless. I literally marched right up at the dam, looked at my feet - selected all, and then move there and they all report 'ready' in the middle of the lake !! Really weird !!! Using the map isn't much help either as it does not accurately map this area and there's no representation of the walkway here. Issue 3 - Terrible Textures. Whenever I enter a vehicle, and then get out, My 3rd person view is horrible, my soldier becomes an untextured figure for a few secs, then stabalises. Similarly, when walking up to a group of vehicles, it takes time for the texture to appear properly, makes the game look pretty terrible to be honest. This is the same on all settings even with everything on low. Buildings are the worst, pretty much everywhere there are buildings I can't really get a fluid draw on these objects, always they look horrible unless I walk right up to them, wait a few seconds and watch as the engine dumps the texture on top. On top of this - I noticed a few people talking about pressing control or shift and '-' on the num pad and this accessing an additional interface which allows you to flush memory or whatnot (seems like it might be needed as I can only play Arma for around 20mins or so until it starts bugging out no matter the settings) I can't remember the exact key combo, but I've tried it and it doesn't work for me at all, which I found to be really weird as well, simply nothing happens, should htis be done while the game is paused or what ? I've tried many permutations from different screens and it simply does nothing. So, I've made sure my PC is above the minimum spec, which I'm assured it is, I used an online tool which told me it was as per advice here and on other forums and I've tried playing with the config file, but truth is, I really don't understand what each line in the textfile does and have no way of knowing what additional stuff I can add to help, the forum posts here where people are discussing this sort of thing are gibber to me I'm afraid, is there any kind of 'tweaking for noobs' guide/post that a kind soul could point me at ? On top of this, I'm kinda just loosing faith that this game is ever going to be worthwhile for all the effort I've put in with it, I've patched sequentially - 1.01, 1.02, 1.03, 1.04, I've reinstalled it each time and I'm just getting mega annoyed at having replayed the missions too many times now and still depsite the patches assuring a better experience, they don't - the campaign is still all over the shop really bugwise. Mostly I've been playing with the editor and other peoples missions, but it's really no fun when you can actually shoot at the enemy until they are right in front of you, it's no fun when your AI just won't respond to the simplest of tasks like walking to a determined spot and it's no fun when the supposedly gorgeous graphics just don't seem to work, Until now I've persevered, but after finally completing the manhattan missions then getting a finishing screen with visible html tags, spelling mistakes and a broken introduction to badlands I'm thinking - pathetic really, I mean these are but a small list of problems, there's really too many to keep count of now ! Really dissapointed , fantastic game on paper, but just too much hard work in practice !
