Hello, First thanks for taking the time to read this. A little about me and what I want: - USA Central Timezone - I've been around since the OFP days. - A few years ago I was a very active member of the 1st CAV. Left for personal reasons, good people there. - I've really enjoyed the FIA/guerilla warfare style gameplay in the campaign. I honestly get tired of standardized US military tactics and equipment. I enjoy the "outgunned, out numbered, have to use stealth and your brain to win" gameplay. - I like the limited resources, scrounging the enemy for better equipment and bringing home extras for my team. - Looking for a professional and realistic team yet focus more on individual roles and strengths vs. rank and file. - Spent almost 10 years in the US Army (11B20B4 - Infantry Sniper, did a tour in Iraq until Haji ended my career for me) - I made a better sniper in real life then I do in game. :) I can teach tactics and theory though. - I want to have fun and am pretty flexible on roles. - Absolutely no talent making missions or flying aircraft/helicopters. - I have a mic and can use TS3 or any other comms that you might use. *** I think it would be fun as hell to work as a local resistance force being supported and directed by a larger structured milsim unit. *** If your unit doesn't have this but would like to have it, I wouldn't mind building the basic structure for this and incorporating it for you. I let you control the recruiting and number of people assigned so as to not steal from your numbers. That's not cool. :) Once again, thanks and have fun! -

Looking for a professional unit. Basically this is what I consider a professional unit. I know that this may make me sound like a jerk, maybe I am, but I'm not joining another unit only to be disappointed again. I work offshore so I'm gone 2 weeks then home for 2 weeks. When I'm home, I have nothing but time. - SOCOM or PMC based prefferably in the US. I'm central US and I like a fast connection. :) - Work close as a team where there is a designated leader (no calling sir because the value of everyone on the team is equal) - Has some variety in the missions. Sick and tired of Takistan... EVERYONE is there. - No Call of Duty wannabe's - No kids unless they are exceptionally mature! - Ex-military is a HUGE bonus - Family comes first - No getting kicked out of the unit because I "didn't check in in a week" but of course appreciated for periods of absence - Flexibility of loadouts, players get to pick kits and their uniforms, but if you use a M107 to clear rooms, don't bother. :) - OPORD's before missions. Tired of jumping into a mission that everyone else has done and not knowing what the hell is going on due to lack of a brief. - No endless jabbering on TS when in the middle of a mission. Tired of trying to tell someone enemy locations while listening to people coughing, eating potato chips, or talking about their day at school. - Screw rank, it's all about your position on the team. Medics should be medics, snipers should be snipers. Personnel should be trained enough to essentially write their own section of the OPORD and brief the team what they will be doing. ei Snipers will explain where they will be set up and what they will be looking for. - Talking about Snipers, using them right! Haven't run into a unit that knew how to use snipers. I use to be one, I know. - Laugh, have fun, enjoy each other's company, but take the missions seriously. - 90% of missions should be done at night, they normally are. We're not patrolling the streets of Iraq. Night vision is a huge advantage the US has on most enemies. - For the love of God, come up with something other than taking down a terrorist cell in a takistan compound. - Of all these things I'm asking for, I am willing to help. If there are weaknesses in the unit that I happen to be strong on, I would be more then happy to help. I not asking to be catered to my every need here. :) Sorry for being blunt. Not trying to be a jerk, just don't want to lose interest again. Just happens all to easy now. -
Ok, I guess I didn't ask my question clear enough. I was not looking for a PMC Realism Unit. I was wondering why they were so unpopular when used so widely world wide. Anyone have wisdom on this? Well, I don't for a second thing it's a dream job. :) I was active duty Army Infantry Sniper and very familiar with Iraq and PMC's. A lot of what you say is true, especially about Blackwater. Thing is that most people don't know it that Blackwater is kind of the low end in PMC's. They recieved a lot of attention because they started out elite, but then moved on to larger contracts requiring more personnel. As far as pay, the standard base pay is $180,000 with the first 100k tax free. If you don't get that, you're getting screwed. Most good PMC's don't have fancy websited and media attention. They are hired by contacts and histoy. That is the type of PMC that should be depicted. Also, maybe pay in Active Duty has gotten better, but I never made it close to HALF of what those PMC guys get. :) What a shame. -

lol That is true, but, most PMC's are made up of ex-soldiers. Same job, yhey just get paid better. :) -
TO CLARIFY I AM TALKING ABOUT PMC CLANS. :) I was sure that with the release of Private Military Company there would be some PMC units out there. Where are they? Is it due to lack of interest in PMC's? Is it because people do not understand the great value and fun that PMC's can provide, not only doing their own ops, but in joint ops with other realism units. Do realism units out there incorporate PMC's in a realistic manner but within their own ranks? PMC's are actually a large and vital part of military operations in today's battlefields. If anyone has any wisdom why PMC's are so rare in a full spectrum military simulator, please let me know.

I hate to see peoples plans fail. I have noticed a serious number of PMC units go down the drain, yet with the total number of units out there it seems that if some of them were to get together then you could have a nice sized PMC with activity. So, here is my proposal. - USDoS is not a realism unit. It is designed to bring PMC's together into either a single unit, or to arrange multiple PMC's into a single mission. - USDoS could privide evaluation on strong points of the PMC and try to sell it to realism units for joint ops. - USDos would provide a list of "freelance contractors". These are people that have proven themselves to be worthy soldiers yet cannot join a specific PMC due to scheduling conflicts (ie they are in a military based realism unit already) but wish to "make some money on the side." - I cannot provide missions, a server or TS, that is still up to the PMC's. What I can provide is organization for the Companies. If anyone is interested in this please contact me at ben1_506@yahoo.com I will also need administrators to continue while I'm gone. I thought I would add a section as to why I think that PMC's have a tendency to fail. My statements come from the fact that I have real life experience involved with PMC's. I have never been one, but will be soon actually. I have worked with them and I have developed a love and understanding in what they really do. Granted the Arma2 campaign in my opinion was not great by any means but that should not discredit the community of PMC's. A large part of it is lack of knowledge and imagination. Most people tend to think that PMC's only run convoys, prisoner protection, check points etc. That is "generally" true. There are PMC's out there that handle laundry, cook food, and run fuel points. That's not what Arma 2 PMC's are about. There are elite PMC companies that hire ex-Snipers, SF, Force Recon, Para-Rescue, SEAL's etc. They run missions that parallel Special Operations in hotspots all over the world. You have to realize that military politics gets really old after a while and why put up with that crap when you can get out, hire on with a PMC and get paid a lot more to do the same thing. A lot of units won't allow their players to pack certain weapons as it's not "realistic". For an active duty realism unit that's fine but for a PMC you are provided a certain amount of freedom. Granted, availability of vehicles is limited but what PMC's have is more than sufficient for what they do. Uniforms. In a PMC, you should (within reason) be allowed to pick your own outfit. Professionalism. Elite PMC's as mentioned before is extreme professionalism. Same work, less support, hand picked individuals with custom kits, twice the challenge. These are not weekend warriors but the cream of the crop. A PMC should reflect that. Run a custom, "How it all began" campaign. Start your guys off with AK's, M4's and M16's with only minimal optics. As the campaign progresses, reward the PMC with additional weapons and equipment, vehicles, etc. based on how they perform. Make them feel like they have earned what they carry. Find players that are interested in PMC's but do not want to be in one "full time". Hire them on on a contract basis and as they prove their worth, allow them positions in better teams as time moves on. DO NOT TREAT THEM AS SECOND RATE! They are a part of the team after all. Be active in the community. Work as a team, help people. Let it be known that you are a PMC. Talk to realism units. See if they would be amenable to working with PMC's. Just realize that you are on their turf, so their rules. A note on that. There are civilians out there that are attached to military combat units that act as an observer. They fight with unit A and before the unit A redeploys and is releaved by unit B, that civilian goes back to unit B in the States and gives them realistic intel about the sector that they are going into. That is another role of a PMC Operator. These are just some thoughts. I honestly believe that PMC's could be a fun and exciting part of the Arma2 community. They are an active part of the military today and far more common than anyone realizes. You would be shocked as to the number currently deployed in Afghanistan right now. For some reason, I believe after I installed OA, when I try to place a unit on the map, it will not let me. With "Units" selected, if I click once I get the cursor for dragging a box. If I double click, I get nothing. Every now and then, it will work but that is quite rare. Is there something new with OA, am I bugged, or do I need to reinstall. I have the D2D version (Not the Steam version) and the disk for OA. COuld that be a problem. Everything else seems to work fine. Thanks

I personally believe that ArmA 2 in many of its modes were not designed specifically for rapid action and mission completion. I know that is a fairly obvious statement but I think that the designers had a type of team play in mind that most all games to not provide. 8 years in the US Army Infantry taught me that you walk for 5 days to get 5 minutes of action. While that kind of simulation is rediculous, ArmA provides something very close to that. The fun in ArmA and ArmA 2 is to sit at a base. Spend 10 minutes to organze a force. Get you humvees, your cobras and your infantry all lined up. Move to the objective in an organized manner, use current military techniques and strategy to take down a force using organization, speed, discipline and firepower. Reorganize, then repeat. You have an unlimited amount of choices when it comes to strategy and vehicles and weapons. Plus they give you a map that is large enough to conduct maneuvers and then try a new strategy on a different city and terrain without having to go pick teams again and load a new map. They joy in this game comes from maturity, patience and and basic knowledge of military principle. It is not a game of knowing where all the good "hide" spots are and racing to see who gets to them first then sit in one place and shoot people over and over again from the same spot. It also removes the "campers". You have sniper in a building and you can't get him. Hmm, a GBU will work fine. Maybe, a dozen rockets from a friendly cobra... If you enjoy fast and immediate action and you can shoot while jumping 6 feet in the air sideways while carrying 200lbs of gear, this game is not for you. If you enjoy organization and discipline, this is the game for you.
