I'm almost inclined to say worse performance. Still getting lots, and perhaps more chug when flying above dense forest areas. But without being able to test it for long enough before crashing to desktop, it's a little hard to be sure...

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??

Next time i'll wait a month before buying. That way when i read threads like this i won't be on THIS side of the fence, $90 out of pocket with ALPHA version, bug riddled software. -
I ordered the large side of crash to desktop. Thanks for the prompt delivery -_- 1.03 patch has made the game even more unstable...

Now that i've had a chance to actually play the game online i can offer my feedback in regards to the quality of the patch itself. Fucking sad. Two CTD's and one server crash in the last two hours of gaming. Spamming error dialogue boxes popping up about controls and mission file shit. This game is twice as unstable as it was on release. Thanks for charging full price for ALPHA level software BIS. You guys are pro.

^ yeah that's all well and good in hindsight, but this whole uproar could've been avoided had BIS just waited 8 hours to release both server and client updates at the same time... playing 1.02 is better than not playing at all. Good onya's for being so quick about it. Least that's a +1 :)

Wouldn't know, haven't been able to play online since clients are now 100% desync'd from servers.... If the execution of this patch is included in the satisfaction part then i need an option that's worse than bad. Us Steam users got absolutely raped by this patch and we can't even play on our servers to soothe the blow from a poorly executed update... -1

ArmaHolic ArmA 2 Optimization
Shinanigans replied to Fox '09's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi peeps, just wondering if anyone could shed some light on a seemingly technical question; Why does "Object Detail" hammer my CPU so much? My current setup is an E8500 @ 4GHz, GTX285 O/C, 4GB 800, Win7. Arma2 absolutely destroys my CPU. I don't think i've seen it go below 70% and have seen it hit 100% many times. Online, i can get a solid 60fps (capped) a lot of the time but when i'm in the middle of a town it can sometimes hit as low as 20-25fps. So buying in a busy, AI infested area kills the performance. I've played with the settings a lot and have found view distance and object detail to be the two biggest hitters of performance. If i'm getting 45fps with object detail on normal, i'll get 55fps with it on very low. Similar gains can be had going from 2000m draw to 1000m draw. Now, i know i'm not GPU limited in this game because dropping the resolution gains barely any fps. However, i'm curious as to how object detail is a CPU bound process. I would've thought that kind of visual change would be mainly processed by the GPU? Anyway... has anyone else found similar results? Any other settings i can tinker with to give me an fps boost around busy towns? Cheers :) -
Hi there, i did a search but couldn't find an answer on what i'm after. Sorry if it's staring me in the face :p 1) Is there a way to set a Team Kill limit on a public server? We're currently running the Domination mode and the amount of team killers is incredible. Is there a server side option to enable an automatic kick once a certain amount of team kills has been made? Or is it done through the mission editor? 2) Should our server be lagging out and completely falling over once we reach 30 players? I think at least once per night the server suffers massive amounts of desync and then eventually crashes if it's full. If it stays around 20 players or below the it seems much more stable. Just those 2 for now, thanks :)
