Have you played the demo? Does it run well on your pc? This game is a whole lot of fun, especially if you have friends to play with. I never play against other players, just multiplayer coop, but it's a blast. The one thing you should know is that there are A LOT of performance issues w/this game for certain systems. Go to the "Support" forums and look at all the posts. If you were able to run the demo and play multiplayer w/good performance then i'd say go ahead and buy it. I'd definitely try the demo first to see how it runs on your system, I have a pretty good system and i only squeeze out 28-33fps.

The Dreaded Receiving Error (A Question About It)
Zman2k02 replied to no1sadvocate=us='s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Have you checked your page file settings in your computer properties? My game originally ran fine, i started tweaking my computer to get better performance and windows didnt' accept my page file setting changes and left it set to "none." After this, i started receiving the "Receiving..." error like everyone else, usually 15-30 minutes into a game. After I realized it was set to none instead of double my memory (3gb so i set it to 6000mb), the game started working properly again. Just one suggestion if you haven't looked. Right Click "My Computer" >> Properties >> Advanced >> Performance >> Settings >> Advanced >> Change >> Custome Size >> Set initial and max to double your ram assuming you have at least 2gb of ram (if you don't have at least 2gb of ram then you may have already found your problem). Let me know if that helps, i'm sure you've probably checked that, but it kind of caught me by surprise. ---------- Post added at 07:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 PM ---------- I've noticed in empty MP games my frame rates are exceptionally higher. For example, if I join a game with other players, even if they're nowhere near the spawn point my fps is, on average, about 33fps, and stays between 25-33 regardless of how much action is going on. This tells me that there's something inherent to the game that's limiting my FPS. I'll get 55-60 on an empty server, but 25-33 on a server w/just a few players. Also, prior to the ATI catalyst beta driver leak, i could never get over 24 fps, and it was usually around 18fps, that driver update alone added roughly 10fps. Luckily I'm sitting right around 30fps, which is definitely playable. I almost went as far as to buy a new processor prior to the ati patch, thinking my cpu was holding me back (AMD Phenom x4 9950), but it's obviously not that now. I even OC'd by 500mhz just to see if i'd get any performance after the ATI update and I'm not seeing any improvement. There was an unusual anamoly where someone joined a server and everyone on the server started to see a big slowdown in FPS, NOT in ping, but in FPS. Everyones perfomance dramatically decreased. At first I thought it was my processor perhaps overheating, or my video cards running hot, but everyone was complaining in chat so i reconnected to the game and mysteriously it went a way. That makes me wonder if perhaps there's some problem with their net code, who knows, just a hypothesis on my part. -
The beta patch DRAMATICALLY increased my gaming performance. I went from roughly 18-24 fps to a extremely stead 30+. I'm ALWAYS above 30fps, even in heavy combat zones in MP, and 45-50 when i'm running through forests ect...w/no action. Pretty incredible improvement from one patch. I'm pretty sure i had crossfire enabled before the patch, i had a program that force enabled it, another program designed to force enable it just for Arma II, and used the -winxp command, i just think this patch optimizes ati video cards for the game much more. As far as the retreiving screen taking over the game, I did fix that by changing my page memory settings in windows. Somehow mine was set to "none", i set it to double my ram (as most of you should as long as you have 2-3gb of ram). That fixed that problem...

Ok so I have a very important question. Looking at your GPU-Z screenshots...I have dual 4850s in crossfire, running a 2.6ghz quad-core phenom, and 3gb of ram. Running the game at 1680x1050 with everything on normal except post processing set to off, I don't even top 30fps in gameplay, no matter what i'm doing in the game. Even at the intro screen, it gets to around 55-60 and hovers back down. So i download GPU-Z and i look at both cards (I think both...it doesn't tell you which card is which, but it gives you two 4850s in the dropdown menu) by opening GPU-Z twice as you did in your pictures. It shows crossfire is enabled. Well, when i run the game full screen, i'll let it run for a few minutes then alt tab out, and my cards never get above 60-65% load for either. Looking at your screens, your cards are both maxed out apparently (99%), so maybe that's why there's such a terrible FPS for my system? I can run GTA 4 completely maxed out, as well as Far Cry 2. This game, however, hovers around 15-24fps virtually all of the time, even with not much action going on. Even when i set all the game settings to VERY low, i gain no increase in FPS it still hovers around 18-25fps. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? I've downloaded ATI tray tools and forced Crossfire on, as well as used all the command lines in previous help posts but my performance is still terrible.
