Before you run out and spend any money try the following; 1) id recommened you try another operating system i.e Win xp or windows 7. Vista does seem to be causing a lot poor performance issues with Arma2. 2) Try to overclock your CPU if possable. Just my 2 cents as the game seemed to run better for in Windows 7.

can someone tell me if i need or can make a ram disk for vista 64? i tried the ram disk program mentioned but the copy i got didnt work on 64 bit windows. is there 2 versions?# ive 4 gigs of ram for vista 64 do i need a ram disk. I moved my page file to a completely new drive; i.e separate to windows and arma2 it seemed to speed things up although i only looked at it for 5 mins but fingers crossed.

Very interesting post, i too amd getting very annoyed about Arma 2 performs on my PC. Im trying to like and play Arma 2 ive waited months to let the patches settle but im still dissapointed in how the game runs. The game looks great at max detail and id love to be able to play at max detail but i really dont see or want to "Gamble" on another PC upgrade. And even seing the post with the ATI 5870 best card at the moment made me very surprised. Im running Vista 64 SP2 and i have Windows 7 64 installed too. Im going to reinstall Xp 32 and see if the game is any better and ill try out the ram disk thing too. Im praying theres a new patch to make a huge difference on performance. My specs are below in my sig, its quite clear that game is nowhere near optimised and hopefully it will although i have nmy doubts with BIS working on a standalone expansion, its kinda looks like Crysis and Crysis Warhead again.(Where the performance of the orig sucked and the expansion worked better). Im running my OS from a different drive than Steam, both Drives are SATA 2 drives but im unsure if they are running at the right speed in the BIOS ive had a few problems with what "mode" they should be in the BIOS. (IDE/AHCI) I tried to install the Ram disk program but it says it doesnt install on 64 bit windows. Great thread will keep up with this stuff..need sleep now college in the morn...

Just want to add my impressions i love the game the first mission was intence and reminded me of the feeling i had playing Operation Flashpoint. The performance of the first mission was good had the details cranked up but the 2nd one in the town slowed my PC to a halt where i had to fiddle with the settings and sorta ruined the immersion and enjoyment of the game. However hopefully future patches will fix performance problems my PC is fairly good. AMD Phenom BE 9850 x4,4 gigs Ram,ATI Radeon 4870 512mb,Vista 64Bit
