1. When controlling the helicopter from the gunner's position and I want to use the FLIR camera, I can barely move the camera in any direction to aim on any target. To be able to control the FLIR camera I have to release the helicopter's controls and only then I can properly use the FLIR camera.

I don't know if that's the way it's intended to be or perhaps it's not fully implemented yet. I find it very annoying because many times I like to use the gunner position while still having the control of the helicopter.

I am using TrackIR, perhaps that has something to do?.

Can you specify your pc components please ?

IF has a lot more calculation due armor penetration etc btw.

    Try this

    http://forum.iron-front.com/entry.php?2-WOW!-Exceeds-my

Tried that too, in fact I have been using them since Arma 2.

Believe me, I wouldn't have posted it if I hadn't tried everything.

My PC specs are in the first post.

It's not a hardware problem or due to armor penetration calculations, because it doesn't happen that way. It's simply the game is not fully optimized. It's not normal the frame rate goes so down when I am near towns and changing settings don't seem to affect performance at least not that I can see a huge difference.

To be honest, I am a bit tired of supporting developers, buying games that require higher specs than are officially said. I bought Take on helicopters to just realize I'd have to wait until I upgraded my PC because there is no way I can play it with decent fps. The problem here is not that I might not know how to configure my PC or that my computer is below the require specs, it's simply games like Iron Front, Take on Helicopters or Arma 2 are not meant for people who own mid range or average computers. And to be honest, I am tired of that.

I think we customers are unprotected and when we just buy a game like this if it doesn't run on our PCs despite is within the requirements we just have one option. Upgrade our computer.

Unfortunately I can't afford that and just buy a brand new CPU everytime.

So please make games to be playable within realistic PC requirements.

  3. Have you tried to reduce object quality to minimum ?

Yes I did, but incredibly when I am near any town the frame rate doesn't change.

I find it very disappointing. I have tried some new maps for ARMA 2 that never gave me any problem in fact getting 40 fps almost all the time. But in Iron Front the performance is unacceptable, specially my rig is a very decent one and is in within the recommended requirements.

I pay €26 at steam and I am not able to enjoy the game. I am tired always the same story and once I bought it there no refund.

Next time I'll wait for the demo.

  4. Hi,

Near almost any town the game becomes almost unplayable, reaching 20-18 frames. When there are no buildings around frame rate is between 30-45

I have tried to change graphic settings from low to high and reducing the view distance to 1000 meters with no success and frame rate in towns remains always low.

    My computer specs

    Quad Core 2 @2.50

    4GB RAM

    ATI 5770 1GB

    Drivers updated

  5. I have been able to fix the problem by doing an arma 2+Arma OA installation.

Now the problem is that when I run the mission and try to add units or whatever I do I see a chat message saying access denied. I am running the game as an administrator and I have no idea why this is not working.

    ....Fixed

NEVER EVER FORGET TO CREATE A START LOCATION. That is only possible after first logging into MCC. Taht is done by creating a zone. Yes this means you can start your mission anywhere you like. Even JIP's will start there. Yes each side can have its own start location for PVP or mixed missions with AI. After selecting a start location you can choose to "disable respawn", this means respawn is off from there on.

  6. ...Oh yes, I still keep playing Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising :D:D FPDR. Just kidding...

I stopped playing OFP Resistance last year but despite the time still very engaging. A few months ago I tried JCove which is downloadable for free but right now I upgraded my PC with a decent graphics card and now I can play Arma 2 perfectly.

  7. I had both Radeon 5970 and 5870. I wonder since Radeon 5970 is suppose to be more powerfull than 5870, how come with 5870 I get 50-51 FPS after benchmarking but with the 5970, I hardly end up with 35 FPS? does this make sense?

I think you should blame the driver.

Because since you get lower framerate with a more powerful videocard unless you are using a different videocard configuration or using a different setup it doesn't make any sense.

I have my 5770 and I get 40 on the field and 30-35 in cities. I am not sure but guessing maybe the drivers for the 5770 are ''better debugged'' than the 5970...just guessing, for sure the 5970 really is a monster video card.

  8. Anyone can post youtube videos, just click the youtube.gif button and post the end of the youtube URL:

    346FvjpXoN8

I received no email asking about it, which address did you send to?

I know if you want to post a youtube link you have to add that last code, but it simply didn't work to me in the first place.

I sent the email to one of the many admins available. :)

*RalphWiggum*, OFteam, *Major Fubar*, *hoz*, *raedor*, *Rhodite*, *Franze*, *Sniperwolf572*, *Kronzky*, *Placebo*, *Berghoff*, *W0lle*

But the issue is already solved.

  9. Hi there !

Wondering if you could tell me whether or not i will be having a good time with this game on this system.

    CPU and Memory:

Intel Core i3 dual core 330M.

    2.26GHz processor speed.

    3MB cache.

    4GB DDR3 RAM memory.

    500GB SATA hard drive.

Dedicated nVIDIA GeForce GT 310M graphics card with 512MB memory.

Any help would be great !

    Thanks in advance !

My brother has a similar computer.

    Visibility: 2600

    Quality: Very High

    Interface: 1280x720

    3d Res: 1280x720

    Texture: Normal

    Vid Memory: Normal

    Anisotropic: High

Anti-aliasing: Disabled or low (I didn't notice a big hit in the performance)

    Terrain: Normal

    Objects Detail: Normal

    Shadows: High

    Post Process: Disabled

He runs the game very smoothly. But do not try to increase the resolution beyond 1280x1024 It may hit the performance.

  10. Might be more useful if you post your specs as well.

    Thanks for the thumbs up.

---------- Post added at 12:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:02 AM ----------

The Vid Memory setting - What exactly does this do - Where should mine most likely be if I'm running a Geforce 8800 with 512 RAM...

Very High is 1GB Vram, High is for 512

By the way can anyone tell me how many posts I need before I can post youtube videos. Because I sent an email to the admin asking it with no answer.

  11. Here's my current settings:

    Visibility: 3061

    Quality: Very High

    Interface: 1680x1050

    3d Res: 1680 x 1050

    Texture: High

    Vid Memory: Very High

    Anisotropic: Normal

    Anti-aliasing: Disabled

    Terrain: Normal

    Objects Detail: Very High

    Shadows: Normal

    Post Process: Normal

Is there anything I can do to squeeze more juice without losing much visually? Do I use anything like -cpucount or anything like that? Any help, suggestions, tweaks you could offer would be appreciated, fellas. Thanks in advance! :)

    Hi,

I have made some videos comparing the different graphic settings. Take a look to them. I have noticed that there is almost no difference from normal to high textures and anisotropic set to high helps a lot to improve quality texture. When I set textures to high or very high I got stuttering when spawning or there were many vehicles around me all of that despite I have 4 GB RAM and 1GB VMemory.

Personally I have set my settings like that.

    Visibility: 2600

    Quality: Very High

    Interface: 1920x1080

    3d Res: 2560x1440

    Texture: Normal

    Vid Memory: Very High

    Anisotropic: High

    Anti-aliasing: Disabled

    Terrain: Normal

    Objects Detail: Normal

    Shadows: High

    Post Process: Disabled

    My hardware:

    QuadCore 2.50 no i7

    4GB RAM 800MHz

    ATI 5770 1 GB

Most of the time 40fps, in cities 30-35 in some occasions 25.

With those settings I play perfectly in every situation and even when things get busy.

I leave you the link, I find them very interesting.

  12. @jtmedina

Not sure what level 'the ruins' you mention is, would you mind telling me what you get for Benchmark 02? I just ran it with your settings (barring res of 2560x1600 and view dist @ 1600) and achieved a blistering 13FPS :(. I'm sure this has been higher before, but still bad (17-22).

    Thanks again for your thoughts.

I get an average of 13 frames in the benchmark 2. I have been analyzing when those framerate drops happen and I have been noticing problems with the lod switch in the cities, some visual effects like dust(incredibly it lowers my fps) explosions and the lods from the trees(which is a huge fps eater). I guess, just maybe the AI is using part of the CPU and it also creates some stuttering creating their path because as far as I know the AI creates their patch dynamically which it takes CPU.

Try Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. It runs far better and it has less problems with the building lods in the cities.

    You are welcome :thumb:

  13. @jtmedina

Damn, wish I was getting those FPS with my GTX 480!

What sort of FPS to you get in the mission 'Harvest Red,' (about the 4th I think)? I'm getting 17-30, but mostly around 20 or less when heading into the industrial area - Just useless :(. My specs and settings are above. Just tried altering my screen res but it makes no difference at all even when reducing it right down to 1280x800 (not that I'd play like that).

    Any suggestions?

I never played campaign but I just tried it to see the framerate and I got during the battle at the ruins 25fps during explosions and 30-35 rest of time. During the speech at the carrier deck I got 30 and during a few moments 35, briefing room 35 with peak of 40 and after that outside while talking to the soldier 35-40.

Try to close all unnecessary applications it may help.

I have latest drivers and I end up with those graphical settings.

  14. Hi,

With regard to the Arma Arrowhead performance. I have a nvidia gt220 and before I had the official nvidia drivers and I decided to try with the forceware drivers from guru3d website. I have to say that still having trouble in cities but I can notice higher framerates in some cases 10 higher with same graphic settings.

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/

I don't know if that may help someone it just worked to me.
