I don't have my brakes set up on the same axis as the throttle... I set the brakes on one of the thumb rotary switches... so the throttle has the axis all by itself. Even so, it will only occupy the top half of the axis range... and won't reach full power... And I agree, the flight model is now semi-believable.. and that's awesome for such a huge game as this... sadly though, the analogue throttle is a no-go for now

the analogue throttle works on helicopters too... the problem is that since it's lacking the upper range of travel, the choppers can't climb, since they can't get off the ground on only 50% power... Please BIS, this feature can really improve the flying in the game... it can take it from an arcadish simplification to a quite realistic flight model... I know it's not the main point of the game, but for some (like me), flying is the top selling point here... I am an ArmA pilot... I have an X52 Pro and rudder pedals... my only wish is that the throttle on my aircraft would rev up to 100% Cheers

This seems like something of a blunder on the part of BIS... really, all the other axes in the settings have their counterpart: Left vs Right pedal, Thrust up vs Thrust down... the new ones don't... they're a single mapping... in a game that treats each axis as if it were 2... in ArmA, every axis is treated as having its 0 point in the middle, with it's axis+ being the upper half and axis- being the lower... mapping only the throttle+ action to the throttle binding will only assign the top half of your throttle... and it's now lacking travel range... The problem is worse than the bottom half of the axis not having any effect... it means that the top half of the throttle travel is missing... meaning you can only rev up to 50% throttle now... that's why helicopters can't get off the ground anymore... also notice how every airplane speeds up slower now I flew the Osprey around for a while... it will only take off on full power now... and the slighest pull back sends it plummeting down again... it's missing throttle... the cobra won't even get off the ground... it does spool up and becomes light and hoverish... but it can't climb on 50% throttle... really, shameful blunder... I've been looking forward for this feature ever since the OFP days... now when it's finally addressed... it's buggy... :( Cheers

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
TheHarvesteR replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Just happened to me too :banghead::banghead::banghead: I was 30 something percent along, when my crummy internet went out for a while... Steam just reset the download... now I'm at 2% again... oh, just to clarify... there's no such thing as a 9GB patch... it's just that during the first gig, the percentage seems to be off... when you reach about mid-download, the percentage looks right again... go figure... well, here I go again... 4% and counting... :icon_ohmygod: Cheers -
ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
TheHarvesteR replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I'm downloading right now, and it doesn't seem like 4 gb... it seems like way more... i'm currently at 5%, and the Steam bandwidth monitor is saying ive downloaded 450MB so far... if 450 is only 5% of the total... 450*20 = 9000!!! 9GB of download!! I hope either the bandwidth monitor is wrong, or some steam programmer doesn't know how to calculate percentages... but it does look like 9GB here... well, ETA is 3 and a half hours... sigh... Cheers -
I opened up the FOV here using a simple method... I mapped the Zoom + and Zoom - commands in the game settings to a joystick axis, this gives me a variable FOV setting that I can change whenever... granted, you will need a spare joystick axis to use this method... but if you have the means, it works perfectly Cheers

ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here
TheHarvesteR replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I couldn't agree more!! Big cheers to BIS for making this game what it is!!! This is the ONLY serious war game in the market, and it is so even despite the tendencies of the brainless disposable mainstream market... Awesome job indeed!!!! Keep up the good work!! Looking forward for patch 1.03 (BTW, thanks in advance for the throttle fix) Cheers HarvesteR -
Hello, I noticed that the throttle in fixed wing aircraft behaves more like a speed hold setting than an actual throttle control... I was hoping there would be an option to disable this in this iteration of the game, but I didn't find any... What I wanted to know is if there is a way to disable this autothrottle in airplanes, and have normal throttle input, like any other flight simulator... (Also, a button for the airbrakes would be a nice addition) I loved ArmA 2, the whole game is simply awesome... but this was one aspect I was hoping would change ever since OFP Cheers

Hi again, I was wondering if there is a way to create a new user profile that uses the same settings as another profile... As it is, I'm currently called 'User', because I got all my controls and setting mapped on the default profile, and when I create a new one with my name, it comes with blank settings (not even the default joystick commands are mapped), and you can't change the name of the default profile So I was wondering if there was a way to transfer the settings from one profile to another... maybe a settings file somewhere? Call me lazy... but I have no mind to remake all my controls assignments and graphical settings... that took a long time to get right  Thanks in advance Cheers

Transferring setting between profiles
TheHarvesteR replied to TheHarvesteR's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Nice!! Thanks!! I found the files, and simply copying everything over to the new profile worked!! all controls and settings are good, and now my name is HarvesteR :) Thanks!! Cheers -
Throttle & Afterburner control in planes
TheHarvesteR replied to aus_twisted's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
+1 for this matter... for me it's the biggest (and only) gripe I have with ArmA 2... I had another thread just about this, but this one has grown bigger, and the larger the thread, the greater the chance the devs will notice it I too have an X52, and I feel the throttle could have been much much better if it had no AI attached to it. If BIS should feel like removing the autothrottle 'feature' would be bad for people using the keyboard, I suggest simply putting in an option to switch between auto and true throttle input... that would please everyone. Cheers -
I know, I had OFP and was annoyed by this 'feature' back then... then again in ArmA... now ArmA 2... someone at BIS must really love this feature... the worst part is that it is much easier to program the standard absolute throttle input than this autothrottle mode which requires an AI to detect when to accelerate and decelerate... I don't know why they decided to keep this... it really detracts from the fixed-wing flying experience... Well, hopefully there will be a mod around this issue sometime in the near future... or a patch :j: Cheers
