I keep reading around the forums that Arma 2 has a ram limit hard coded at 2GB. Is this true? If so, may I kindly ask WHY?! I've got 6GB of ram just sitting here and resource monitor shows Arma using well below half, despite getting ridiculous lag spikes with textures loading. Is there a way to force it to recognise and use more ram?

Reposted in Troubleshooting section as per Placebo's request. There seems to be quite a bit of discussion regarding whether hyperthreading makes an impact on Arma 2, so I've decided to test the game with HT enabled and disabled in the bios on my i7 system. In the following experiment I'll also be testing the commands '-cpucount=4' and 'cpucount=8' which supposedly forces Arma 2 to utilise 4 & 8 cores respectively, along with Hyperthreading enabled & disabled. All benchmarks are conducted using ArmaII-Mark V1.0. Now let's get started! My rig: i7 920 @ 4.00ghz 6GB DDR3 PC-12800 ATI HD 4870 512mb Asus P6T Deluxe Win7 64-bit Test Settings: Video Memory - High Post Processing - Low Anti-Aliasing - Off All other settings - Normal Resolution - 1680x 1050 RESULTS: Test 1: Hyperthreading Enabled in BIOS -cpucount=8 1nd Run - 4440 2nd Run - 5129 Test 2: Hyperthreading Disabled in BIOS (max 4 cores) 1st Run - 4626 2nd Run - 5353 Test 3: Hyperthreading Enabled in BIOS -cpucount=4 1st Run - 4410 2nd Run - 5201 Core Utilisation: Conclusion & Findings: Firstly a caveat to my results, since I'm using an ATI card I have VSync forced on and cannot disable it so my frame rate was capped at 60fps throughout significant portions of the benchmark. Now to the results, there doesn't appear to by a big difference between HT enabled and disabled just by looking at the numbers, however I must say there was a significant increase in texture pop-in pauses and frame rate dips with hyperthreading enabled. You should be able to discern from the graphs that the hyperthreaded cores are acting quite erratically with sudden drops in thread utilisation. Even when I added the -cpucount=4 command to my hyperthreaded processor, erratic behaviour was observed. So what does this mean to i7 users? The game definitely has issues with hyperthreading, and there is definitely room for improvement for i7 processor performance with this game. Bohemia Interactive just has to get around to optimising the game for HT. Thanks for reading :ok:

any word on a new patch to fix the i7/windows 7 problem?
choC replied to chronicbucks's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
You're definitely the exception in this case. I don't think anybody else I know who plays this game can say the same. Heck I encounted something "gamebreaking" almost every single time I play. One example would be infantry spotting you from a very long distance while you're prone in the "grass" which the AI has no consideration for whatsoever. -
You started a thread to ask if you should play a game you bought... Would you like us to tell you when to breathe, what to wear and what to eat as well?

Almost playable at max settings with Catalyst 9.7! Specs: Core i7 920 @ 3.8ghz Asus P6T Deluxe ATI HD 4870 512mb 6GB G.Skill PC-12800 DDR3 Asus Xonar Essence STX 24" Dell 248WFP @ 1920x1200 Win 7 64-bit (VSync Forced Off)

Well I think they're running better than the 9.6's. I can actually play the game with high/very high settings now without significant frame dips in forests etc.
-
hrmm, maybe it was just bugged out then because the bullet trajectories were definitely way off. It did seem to be better once I relaunched the game though so hopefully it won't happen again!

I just ran the game via ATI Tray Tools so that I could force VSync off. Well I noticed that my accuracy was messed up big time. With an M4A1, my shots would land consistently higher than my iron sites (by a fair way) and at ranges 400m+ which seems to my like it's way off the zero range. I also only managed 1/20 shots in the skeet range :/ I then exit the game and started it using the regular .exe shortcut and i pulled off 18/20 in the skeets in the armory. First I'd like to ask, can someone verify this is happening? And secondly, once FADE enabled, will it keep recurring? I'm using a legitimate version of the game bought from game.co.uk.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Either that or they consider this thread a trash can for legitimate complaints... -

Why on earth was the 'Superhuman AI' thread merged with this mega thread!?!?!? -
Well he doesn't seem to be the only one reporting improvement over the betas.. I'll give them a go tonight after work.

The AI is most definitely flawed in this game. One example I could provide is running through dense forest more than 400m away from a town, yet still being spotted and shot at. By dense I mean there is no way I can get visual on the target without moving towards a clearing. Not to mention lying prone in a field of tall grass ammount to nothing when trying to hide from the enemy. -
Nice posts there Ekre, I wonder how many "My game keeps crashing" posts would have been avoided if BIS attempted the fix themselves...

I'd like to give this thread a well deserved bump as it's been a while since it was created and SSD's are gaining in popularity. Anybody had the chance to run Arma 2 with their SSD yet?

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
choC replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I love the concept behind the game, but the execution falls flat on it's face. I've got a monster rig (in sig) and still can't play without hiccups on high settings (let alone very high). For me it's one of those games where graphics are definitely an integral part of the game play and immersion. -
M4A1 Holo ACOG for me. I'm usually pretty accurate up to 500m with it.

Read below. If it wasn't for the constant lag during texture loads and the missing/low quality textures while they load, then I wouldn't be complaining about the 2GB limit.

Arma 2 & Core i7 Hyperthreading - Tested
choC replied to choC's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
There definitely are, unfortunately most of these applications are exclusive to audio/video encoding. To be honest I can't really recall a game that benefits from Hyperthreading, however unlike Arma 2; most games do not suffer such dramatic performance issues with HT enabled. -
Thanks :) I'd upgrade my graphic card but DX11 is just around the corner

Gah, what about the rest of the map? lol

If people are going to mention that a certain OS isn't working well for them, could they please also mention their system specs? Just to make your posts a bit less useless, thanks.

Finally forced it off with ATI Tray Tools so all good now.
