  1. Strange, High and Very High settings are available in the Options - Graphic menu in the game. Try updating your GPU drivers, directx and, of course, the game, unless you havent done so yet.
  2. Agreed, with my ATI 4850 1GB VaporX I changed video memory to Default and after ca 10 minutes of gameplay exactly the same artefacts started to appear. After switching from Default to Very High, its fine. It has nothing to do with melding down the GPU or dust in your case. What, at least for the moment, help me to get rid of slow loading textures was updating DirectX software (9c). Its described in one of the threads on the forum, cant remember which one. Beware though, I had never updated DirectX as such. This time, I downloaded a full ca 76Mb pack which updated DX9x BUT resulted in Securom issues not experienced before - the game wouldnt start even with DVD inserted. I had to turn off these emulator SW (or what they are called). So now, I can say I am playing without artifacts or slow loading textures or any other gamebreaking graphical bugs. Nevertheless, 1.03 is necessary for these adjustments and experiments are just horrible. The geme needs to run fine off the shelf, without any such tweaking.

Change the Language in Arma 2?

I would like to know the same. I am a Czech and I have the game in Czech but games sound much better to me in English. Is there such an option? I cant recall the game asking me at any point of the insltallation and there is certainly no such option in the menu...?
  5. And so yesterday, we celebrated a month since the last patch, with the game still unplayable and our money gone. Hopefully, if nothing else, the game will gain value by the time, just as wine or old furniture. Maybe, in years, an ArmA II DVD will be a valuable collectors piece as historically famous for its unplayability and TOTAL LACK OF INTEREST AND COMMUNICATION on the part of dev team! HELLLOOO?

    ATI Catalyst 9.7 is here

Running the game on XP, I noticed a slight increase in performance and better loading time of textures (no more blurry trees and bushes). However, "silver" heads and disappearing helmets still remain. I played it for only a while, cannot assess what the game would do in a city.
  7. For the few brief moments I could play the game (before it became totally unplayable due to like zillion gamebreaking bugs...another issue though), I think the Americans are dubbed by native speakers (hard to say weather soldiers by profession:o). On the other hand, the Czernarussians (or what is the country called) are dubbed by native Czechs, which is clearly for purpose to simulate an east-european country. What really pissed me off though was when my character (the American soldier, normally speaking English) spoke Czech (which is probably Czernarussian in the game world:o) to the locals. Dunno know if this is only in my Czech version of the game...? I hardly think a regular American soldier would learn Czech, which is officially one of the most difficult languages in the world (no offence to US soldier;o).
  8. Supporting the "small" is nice but as long as they require a regular payment for their product (same as any other "large" company) they need to act appropriatelly. As it is, size is not and cannot be an excuse. And be honest about it, the best things are often for free - how much would it cost them or how many people would it require of them just to POST A COMMENT in the forum saying "We are aware of certain drawbacks some of you may be facing, but we are working round the clock to correct it! You may expect a patch to be released within XY days! Thanks for supporting us!" ?? Speaking for myself, I would be happy with that. What really drives me crazy at this moment is their total (public) ignorace of all the issues. And instead of posting such a diplomatic note, they make me even more angry by releasing "flash games" and "web updates" and "dev diaries". I would very much like to support them not only for their are small and their game (could have been) awesome but also for their are Czech, just as I am (patriotism works:o). But this attitude is simply horrible. Make it better BIS and allow me to be proud of you, damn it!
  9. Oh my God, I really HOPE this guy is joking. Or does he really mean it that I bought a f.... game NOW a will only be able to play it like on Christmas (MAYBE)???? If there isnt a patch to fix the total graphical unstability by a week or so, I am going to return my copy of the game a write a VERY unpleasant letter to BIS. This is really like a bad dream. The gentlemen in BIS (namely Jan Prazak, the PR manager) should spend more time actually communicating with their costumers (at least officially admit that the game will be of any use no sooner that December) and less time shooting "dev´s diaries" that, by the way, only pissed me off big time when I saw how great the game should have looked...and doesnt. I AM REALLY ANGRY AT THIS POINT, SO I WARN YOU - NOT IN MOOD FOR SOME "SENIOR MEMBERS" TO ASK ME TO BE POLITE OR ASURE ME THAT "PATCHES WILL COME"!!!!!! I wrote a polite email to BIS to which none responded, so I would really appreciate someone from BIS to confirm an approximate date of release.

    some major arma 2 issues

That´s what many of us are asking here repeatidly. We are all sure a patch is coming out but nobody seems to know when. Personally, I check the "Support" bar on the web twenty times a day..:o) Could someone from BIS make a statement here or in the "News" sections? At least approximatelly (e.g. "A new patch will be out within a week"...) Thanks guys!

    ATI Catalyst 9.7 is here

I dont have much experience with such unofficial releases. Any chance installing these could screw bad with my system?:) Any info as to when an oficial release will be made?
  12. An amazing thing happened to me:o) Today, I bought ATI HD4850 1GB DD3 Vapor-X and the game WORKS without all the previously mentioned graphical bugs, especially slow loading textures, blurriness, silver heads, disappearing faces etc.! With my previous card (ATI x1950 PRO 250Mb), I was experiencing all the issues. Now, details set to HIGH, 1440x900. OTHER SPECS: 3GB DDR WinXP AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 5200+ Anyway, still looking forward to a new patch and wishing good luck to all of you have are still struggling:o) PS: Yeah, now I can confirm this is one of the best looking games to date:o)
  13. My joy was premature:o) Everything worked fine in Mission I, as soon as I got to the city (hunting down the sniper who pinned down a friendly unit) all the graphical bugs reappeared in an even worse shape. Apart from blurriness, silver faces and slow loading textures, the following NEW ONES to me appeared: - buildings and objects flickering and disappearing - HILLS and TERRAIN disappearing (it looks like trees and entire forests are "flying in midair") - total crash of graphics (huge "polygons" everywhere...) Only positive is I am actually starting to enjoy this "bug hunting" - always surprises me what can go wrong:o)
  14. Surely mentioned many times before, but: My team was driving a jeep in a city - a wide and totally unobstructed road with only ONE Skoda car parked by a sidewalk. You´re guessing correctly - my team member, the driver, hit the Skoda car a was UNABLE to drive around it, still reversing and hitting it again...nice pathfinding:o) Come on, BI, we really need a new patch! ---------- Post added at 05:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:51 AM ---------- In one of the first missions (cant remember its name, Razor Two, I think) I got transported by a chopper to a nearby city (called for support). When there, we all disembarked the chopper. BUG: The AI pilot took off but approximatelly 20 m above the base, resp. the place where he left us, he got stuck in midair, unable to fly anywhere. Calling him back did not help - ...and if he did not die of starvation, he´s probably hovering there even now...:o)
  15. In mission I, I rescued Dr.Sova in the village and was ordered to escort him to a hut in the woods. BUG: Dr.Sova crawled ALL THE WAY!! Took me ca 20 minutes of waiting before he was finally able to crawl to the destination. I tried dragging him, asking him to stop and wait and then follow me again...nothing worked. Pretty annoying;o) ---------- Post added at 03:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:08 PM ---------- Again, in mission I, I ran out of ammo and communicated this to the team. Team leader ordered me to "reload at medic", but the game (i.e. a brown direction indicator) sent me a 100 m back to a dead body of an enemy. Only thing I could do was take his AK47.
  16. When I command my team´s medic to heal himself, he bends to his knees and "resuscitates" a virtual person virtually lying infront of him (heart massage)...nevertheless, he ultimatelly heals himselfs this way:o)
  17. Without reading through all of your previous posts (thus maybe reporting something that has already been reported) - when I approach civilians they do not "open their mouths" to speak but they say aloud where they are going or what they are going to do - sounds VERY strange ("Go...to...12457...get in...car" etc.). Otherwise, they do not say anything. Game is patched.
  18. OK, after a whole weekend of reinstalling, readjusting, resetting and re-reading forums, I am done with this game and I am not going to waste more time with it. Among the most serious bugs that are making the game totally annoying and unplayable are: 1) Graphics crashes (textures loading slowly and only after approaching the object from a short distance, loosing textures completely, "silver" faces etc.). 2) AI crashes (heli pilot constantly landing on trees / hi-voltage poles (...) thus causing the heli to crash, team members ignoring my commands etc.). 3) Sound crashes (radio comms sometimes sound like if from a toilet). 4) After reinstalling and repatching the game, it crashes to desktop without reason from the loading screen. If BI don´t release another (this time a working one) patch, I swear never to buy another game from them. I believe that when I spend quite a sum of money on a product (not pirating it, PURCHASING IT!!!) I am perfectly entitled to expect it to work just fine without me having to virtually "reprogramme" it (i.e. rewriting arma2.cfg etc.). I wish you all more luck and patience than I have had! I wish BI really read this forum and will do something about it (at least give us a sign that you are!
  19. Youre very wrong here, I was. And that´s exactly it, back then, with crap PCs when playability was above graphics, I can´t remember having any such problems! Nowadays, with all these HRD effects and this and that and high-end IT, they seem to be unable to make it work and betatest properly. Don´t get me wrong, I understand that with a game of such proportions you can´t avoid all the bugs, but THAT many of them and so serious!!?? Moreover, if they planned it to be primarily an editor for the community they should have said so on the package and during the promo! I would have bought it... Not mentioning the fact that even if the editor is brilliant, the graphics / sound / AI issues remain...;o) Looking forward to a new patch!
  20. I don´t believe the problems to be caused by my specs as loads of people with various hardware specs complain here about the same. The game is poorly optimised. I agree with you - the more you are looking forward to it the greater your disappointment when it fails. Hopefully, BI will patch it fast enough and well enough so that it is playable. Until then, I put the game back into its package. Enjoy Arma2 those few lucky of you who are facking no problems:o) Original Operation Flashpoint RULEZ (long gone are those days, right, BI;o)
  21. Hey, my problem is that textures only appear on objects with delay and only when I approach the object (building, tree, person...) from a short distance. Even from a distance of say 10 metres, everything is blurry and "shitty", ie without proper textures. ATI x1950, 2 GBRAM, WinXP, latest drivers, latest patch, fillrate 100 percent. Any tips? Thanks!
