It's instant man. Or at worst a couple of minutes. You totally don't have any issues turning your head, completely natural, as your eyeballs naturally stick to the screen, and you're only moving a couple of inches anyway. Years ago I held off on buying a Track IR for this very reason. Thought it'd be weird with the head turning. My god, if I could only reclaim those years of lost virtual realism... had I only known.

Maybe a few FPS overall...

Does not work. Throttle only functions in analogue in the top 50% range of movement for planes. This is totally unsatisfactory. Throttle does not function at all for choppers. This is utterly beyond any rational explanation. Playing around with sensitivity makes sweet FA difference. EDIT: post above by MoonDawg has it right. To quote - Arma 2 must have: "0-100% throttle for fixed wing, A button for airbrakes/wheelbrakes. 0-100% Collective for rotary aircraft." You know. Like every other game with aircraft every released since the dawn of computing....

Words can't express my sadness... It is specifically for choppers that the analogue throttle was so desperately needed. Why, for all things holy, is this omitted?? COME ON BI.

ARMA II Patch 1.03 & Dedicated Server Released .
Flouncy replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The size of this download is a disaster for me. I'm an Australian user, and 4.3GB is over half my entire monthly quote, as we're capped over here. The workaround is for BI/Valve to have the patch hosted on the usual Aussie ISPs that mirrir Steam content - ie Telstra/Bigpond. However the patch is not being hosted. Therefore, I simply can't patch the game until that happens. After weeks of tolerating a bugged game, it's a cruel tease to dangle it but not let me actually have it... Please BI - sort this for Australians please. Edit - after trying to download this all day it kicked into life a few minutes ago. Appears it's now hosted locally - thanks guys. -
Connection Failed - which ports do I open?
Flouncy replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
I'm the mate. And yeah it bites. I can connect to any other server. Also worth mentioning, GunSlinger just got a new router - worked perfectly with the old one - but the port settings were the same... -
Troubleshooting TrackIR in ArmA 2 / OA
Flouncy replied to Merad's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This is a common noob fail. It's a trap for young players. Yeah - just 'enable it' and you can look at your feet. -
Arma 2 making something click inside my computer?
Flouncy replied to Stones's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Is it just one click, when you start the game - or ongoing clicking? If just the one (or two in succession), it's most likely your soundcard switching modes, and is nothing to worry about. -
Grypon [sic] Squad is another very nice chopper CAS mission. More intense and battle-heavy than this. You need to actually protect your chopper from fire, using cover and strategy. Very nice. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=79696

Nice mission, just what I was looking for, thanks and well done.

No CrossfireX support for ArmA II?
Flouncy replied to Alex780's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Add "-winxp" after the .exe, or in launch properties if Steam. If that alone doesn't work, push AI up to max in CCC. My crossfire was enabled with the -winxp setting alone. -
Also try turning AA off completely. Helps me (4870x2).

Great to see an air mission, cheers Mbot. Having a problem, though. Nothing happens when I get to the combat area. No bad guys, no friendlies. I've flown around Brezeeenio [sp!], landed, gotten out, flown some more. It's empty. There's nobody on the radio, no channels to choose from. Have also flown high, low, fast and slow around the red shaded area. Nada. I do get a co-pilot message to initiate contact with the FAC, but nothing comes up when I hit the communication key. I must be missing something basic :)

Im thinking about gettimg this game.....
Flouncy replied to cameron's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The 'mild sexual' would refer, I'm guessing, to the side mission asking you to rescue a women prisoner, who, the voice actors say "is being abused". They'd need to cover that in the ratings. Mild, yes. But that's the meaning of the reference and its purpose. So as far as I know that's all, but I'm yet to explore 100% of this game's content. -
"Missing spamming"? By getting a lock, shooting, then switching to a new target, as per the Hellfire's design and purpose in life, and shooting again... is... spamming?! Shirley, you can't be serious.

You can't figure out that you're quoting a 6-year old post that's irrelevant to the current game, yet you're going to talk about my education? *shakes head* You're not worth wasting any more text on. Bye

Agree the built-in chat is poor. While technically groovy, the distance and direction feature is a hindrance to quality team gaming. After experimenting with Teamspeak and Ventrillo, my group of mates and I now exclusively use Skype. Yes, Skype. Voice quality is exceptional, faultless. There seems to me zero impact on game performance too. We use conference calls to do it. Give it a go, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Downloaded missions not showing up
Flouncy replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Sounds like you didn't copy the files properly, and you've just made a shortcut to the real files, which are still in your downloads folder... -
Was the campain even bug tested?
Flouncy replied to OddballWDI's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
I love this game and I hate it. Never, have I been blocked, twisted, forced to reload endlessly to try all combination of weird, counter-intuitive things, just to get to the next stage. Arma 2 has: An abysmally coded 3D engine, that won't deliver playable fps on mega systems. AI of the very worst order. Clearly, no QC testing of the campaign - or, if they actually did test it AND deemed it acceptable for release, dear god... I'm just lost for words. What it does have is potential in spades. It needs at least another 6 months dev before it could be considered a finished product. So BI now has a reputation as one of those devs that relies on the 'community' to polish the turd? What a mocking shame their attitude is. I've been trawling these forums and watching the mountain of grief, looking daily for solutions to my new daily issues with the game, the ones that get you just when you think it's all working well, and only once have I seen a staffy at BI actually post. Absolutely, utterly disgraceful. So. A year of patches, and it'll be right. We must believe. All we have with Arma 2 is faith. What crap of a way to garner customer loyalty is that? Through all this they're hiding, silent. Shameful, disgraceful and a punch in the guts to the loyal, the casual, and absolutely everyone who paid cash for this. Just one statement, assuring us they know, understand, and are working on it would help wash away the pain felt by 100's of thousands of suffering customers. They care, right? -
Have tried all selections and it doesn't seem to make a difference to FPS - though what I haven't fully explored is the video memory setting in combo with all the permutations of the other graphics settings. Anyone know what it does? I've not seen this config option in any other game. I'm running a 4870X2 (1GB RAM). Thanks guys. I'm running -winxp, btw, so both cores are active. Usually at about 70% load, each.

Thanks Bulldogs, that's what I assumed too. I did, however, read in another thread here someone saying that the 'default' Vid Mem setting tells the game to use all available VRAM. So, then, if so - why would there be options to force higher or lower than onboard VRAM? It doesn't make sense...
