Wow, check this Arma 2 video out...
Netherscourge replied to Beltfed's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I think that video is more exciting then the game at the moment. -
Pretty boring "dogfight". Why don't the planes turn and try to evade?
-
Is this a patch for the DEMO or the retail game?
-
Maybe shrink them a little? Takes forever to find someone to shoot at.

Maps are a little bit too big
Netherscourge replied to Netherscourge's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
No. lol I mean the online matches are just big empty maps with a handful of people just wandering around aimlessly. Nobody seems to know what to do or where to go. One guy was just spamming the voice commands non-stop for some strange reason. -
Maps are a little bit too big
Netherscourge replied to Netherscourge's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
lol I can't find games with tons of people in it - all I can get into are 12 player games and the maps are so big that 12 players is like playing hide and go seek in the grand canyon... -
Any server i try to join that is bigger then 18 players will fail to join me - even if there's a bunch of open spots.

It's running fine on Windows 7 64 for me. I just need a new video card.
-
Here's my Benchmark Scores: (see sig for system) Very Low Settings: 58 FPS Default Settings: 29 FPS Very High Settings: 19 FPS Obviously, my video card is the bottleneck. However, there were major lag issues and bizarre pop-up issues going on. This game is not ready for retail. It's got MAJOR potential, but it needs lots more work IMO.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Here's a decent breakdown of mid-range Video Cards right now and their performance levels: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-radeon,2326-16.html Keep in mind, NONE of these has been tested against ARMA2 yet... so take it with a grain of salt. -
Youtube videos are the reason I even know this game exists. I came across one by accident when I was looking for Battlefield Bad Company 2 videos, and now my whole focus has been altered. I hope this game get's the same level of polish the BF games now have. I'll be hooked instantly.

I would wait a while and see people's benchmarking results before figuring that out. I'm not hoping for much on my 8800 GTS, but I'm not eager to run out to get a new video card either. -

Plus - Sandbox warfare gameplay NEEDS graphic updates. The gameplay is always solid in most of these games - it's the realism and attention to details that separates these games now. -

To quote Qui-Gon Jin: There's always a bigger fish. I was running a Socket-939 AMD system until last month. I stretched it out over 3 years but games like this and other upcoming games are just too demanding. AT least upgrading is much cheaper now - heck, 6-GB of DDR3 ram is only $100! Take advantage while stuff is cheap IMO. -
15 minutes to install? Can you post your system hardware specs?

3D fillrate define mesh LOD quality !
Netherscourge replied to GLeek's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
lol This reminds me of Battlefield 2. That game was the most massive resource hog ever when it was first released. A couple patched memory leaks later, the game ran pretty smooth on mid-range PCs and was awesome on the high-ends. Of course, this game has actually been out in Europe for a while, so who knows... According to their posted "Recommended" system requirements, you'd think most people here who be running at 60FPS easily. But it never seems to work out like that, regardless of how top-end your system is. I wonder what type of rig they were running when they recorded those demo videos - because they seem to run fairly smooth. I know developer PC's are are on steroids to begin with, but the scaling never seems to match up on customer PCs. -
That looks like a driver issue. Maybe you need to roll back to an older one?
-
BTW - has anyone tried this game with a Xbox 360 USB controller yet on the PC? Curious if you can use it and how well it works.
-
Finally finished the download and burned it and the DX9 update patch onto a DVD+R data disc. Now.. just gotta stare at the clock at work for 3 more hours :(
-
So the Demo is more updated then the retail?

ArmA2 Demo Release Today - 2PM GMT - 3PM CET - 6:00 AM PST
Netherscourge replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Something tells me as word gets out about the demo, download speeds will start getting worse on the HTTP sites. Of course, it SHOULD get better on the torrents - but then again, everyone chokes their upload bandwidth on torrents so it's still horrendously slow - thus, defeating the whole purpose of torrents. -

I recommend Fileplanet. You have to wait in line for 30 minutes, but it's downloading at around 800K for me and I'm not even a subscriber. The whole download only takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes including the wait time. -
If you have Dx10 installed, wouldn't it already have that dll?
