Hello there, I d/l my full version from Direct2Drive and unzipped everything and ran the .exe and the game starts. However, after the BIS splash screen I get an error that says "Bad Serial Given". I already entered the activation code and that went through fine. I found another post for Steam users, but unfortunately I don't even have an ARMA2 folder in my regedit. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. ---------- Post added at 03:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 PM ---------- FOrgot to mention I"m running xp

I'm playing with an e6600 Core 2 Duo Overclocked to 3.0ghz 8600GT Overclocked 2 Gig OCZ DDR2 I play online multiplayer almost exclusively. I've had VERY sporadic results. Sometimes I can play for several hours on low with decent fps. Other times, I connect and get 15 min play time before things just lock up. I understand that I have a low-end gaming system, which is fine. I'll sacrifice graphics for some FPS, but I feel that I can't upgrade for this game (yet). As I look back through the forums, the results between hardware options is so insanely varied that it doesn't seem that you can buy good performance for this game. You can spend a lot of money, but may be worse off than what you've got. When it works, it works beautifully. When it fails....it's an absolutely miserable experience. As you can tell by my hardware, I'm not an avid PC gamer, but I loved Arma1 and bought Arma2 without hesitation. But, I'm going to stop playing for a while now. I may be back after some patches, but as a MP fan, I hope there is still enough interest to come back to with other tactical shooters on the horizon. -
I agree on the hold maps. I've been having a blast on the ATOW server. Playing defense in that heavily-wooded map with a heavy MG spraying blindly in the direction of an incoming squad (of real, thinking, plotting players) hoping to tag a few of them. I also enjoyed the hardcore version that doesn't show if you hit your target. It keeps you honest and raises the bar on the immersion factor a bit. I loved A1, and although I second-guessed A2 at first, I'm loving it more everyday and I'm even considering joining a squad for the first time to increase the opportunities for teamwork.

I think there also needs to be some consideration of the type of heli you are piloting. I personally miss the little birds from A1. They were so much fun to fly and very useful to learn with. Even the Huey in A2 is (rightly so) much more sluggish and I think far less forgiving for newer pilots. However, after several hours on the editor I'm now comfortable in all the aircraft using keyboard and mouse. :bounce3::bounce3:

I created a new thread having not seen this one, but I have the same problem with my copy d/l from Direct2Drive. -
Shouldn't we keep this thread about demo impressions? Sorry, I hate to be a Naggy Nelly.:j:

After a some DirectX issues, I managed to launch and play the demo last night. 1.) I did not have a single crash during my 1.5 hrs of play time. 2.) I agree with others that the blur effect is wholly unnecessary and sometimes distracting 3.) While the sounds are much better than "stock" A1 sounds, I found the levels to be somewhat jumpy and at times louder or softer than they should be at a given distance 4.) I found there to be lag between mouse and screen reaction time (possibly h/w deficiency on my end? Will experiment more tonight) 5.) Voices are bordering on horrible. I'll try again with Radio volume completely off tonight 6.) Vehicle steering is very sensitive, although I'll adapt to this over time Overall, I hope this feedback is welcomed as constructive. I will say that when the demo works, it works very, very well. I've never played a game with this level of immersion (besides A1) and I'm confident that future patches will iron-out these relatively issues. Furthermore, I'm still going to purchase the full game tonight and will enjoy playing it. Although, I'm going to have to buy a new vid card as this one ain't cutting the mustard. My specs: Intel "Bad Axe2" mobo e6600 C2Duo OC'd to 3.0ghz 2gb OCZ RAM 8600gt Vid Card (Yes, I know)

I don't want to speak out of turn, as I'm new here. BUT, wouldn't it be well advised for everyone to just d/l the demo when it's available, to gauge performance? (That is, if you're not planning on buying regardless like me) There are so many hardware options, software settings, etc. The minimum requirements are easily available, and a question like, "Can I run it?" is like asking "how long is a piece of string?" It depends on what you expect from the game. (e.g. I want to see the enemy's nosehairs before I kill them, or I'm happy with colorful shapeson my screen). Also, why buy a bunch of hardware for a game which is still awaiting an optimization patch? -

My understanding from the FAQ posted earlier in this thread, is that there are "no limitations" in terms of features specific to the Steam version. I would also interpret this to mean that you are not confined to Steam's servers. If this IS the case, then it is definitely a deal breaker for me. -

Excellent, thanks for this. I think I will be d/l the Steam version. :D -

Hello all, I'm (obviously) new to the forum (long time listener) and I loved ARMA. I've been thinking of picking up A2 on Steam when it's available in NA, but I've never used Steam. I've heard from a couple of friends that it's somewhat limiting in comparison to a hard copy of a given game. Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this? I'm willing to wait a few extra days if there are any limitations (outside of securom activations etc) on what servers you can play on, etc. Thanks
