If you have the ram to overcome the overhead then 7 is faster in my experience than XP, and 7s overhead is alot smaller than even the much improved vista stats with the service packs.

What is a good FPS rate?

Depends on you screen, and how close you are, but 24fps is genrally thought to be the base number for simulating smooth movement, though being closer will afect things, especially the flicker. Most tft screens refresh at about 60Hz so any more FPS than that is a waste in most circumstances, so can healthily be sacrificed for other improvemnts. If the split seconds really matter then higher framrates (as they often a sign of how quickly a games processing) can relate to reactions being a tiny bit quicker, but reactions that quicker are rarely that important.
  3. not quite true, while it is true that at the distances cinema and large tvs are designed to be true 24fps is enough to fool the human brain that its seing smooth motion, there is improvemnt at higher speeds, plus it can detct the flicker. Many cinema screens show you 50 fps, they double up the traditional 24 (so each is shown twice in a row) then add a couple of blanks. I suspect these extra two were chosen to sync to 50Hz a common AC current frequency. THe large number is to limit flicker.
  4. Hiding behind other cover is all very well but it does make your placing rather more predictiable, and one of the key choices in choosing a location is that it isnt predictiable i.e if theres one tree in a plain then thats the one location you DO NOT choose as a snipers location as it means you will be found and killed in fairly short order. This is ignorng similar rules in sniper fire of changing location between shots etc to minimise chances of you being spotted. Surely there are ways to block shade grass at ranges to keep its performance effects down?

    Bullet drop. where is it?

The bullet at less than 300m would hit slightly above the aim point on a weapon zeroed at 300m (the distance above aimpoint I recall is negligble, this combined with the fact that 300m is the individual planning range of an assault rifle (600m for a group)). However many weapons sights have sights that can be adjusted to take account of bullet drop, within the weapons design range.
