I'm a fan of battlefield but also Arma. In Arma you have realistic ballistics and ranges, as others have said here already battlefield has bullet drop but nothing else, it's also interesting to find that in BFBC2 there is no or at-least very little bullet drop on the pistol and shot gun, you can snipe with a shot gun (slugs) and pistol in battlefield better than some sniper rifles. It disgusts me.

This game isn't popular because twits kick you out of every game that sounds like fun. Also, i would class myself competent at any game no matter how complicated it is, this is just a fact that i'm a quick learner, but it does take too long to get into action in this game, i only say this because i can only fly good when nobody is looking..lol.... Too long standing at a base where people just shoot you for lulz, is not my idea of fun. Give me a game mode that if i get shot by a player in a FF incident they go to the spastic room for 30'sec while i get to play whack a mole but this time using a club hammer and their balls as a pop up target, for every target i hit is the amount of points they loose. Sounds like fun eh?

In arma2 as in real life you have something called sight line and bore line. Basically at close range you may be able to plant your sights on a target but your bore line (gun barrel) will not have the elevation to hit over a wall/hill etc. Just aim a little higher and you will hit your mark or use mods to give you adjustable sights as most guns in arma2 are most probably zero'd in at around 300mtrs up to 450mtrs depending on the weapons system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifleman's_rule Take a look at the charts because i'm sure arma2 uses the same ballistics.

Thanks for that mate, i will give it a try and see how i get on (fingers crossed). *EDIT, The beta patch didn't work for me unfortunatly, i can't get my head around this problem as i have just tryed playing in single player mode and it works flawless not a problem, but as soon as i try to play on-line i can get in to the game lobby then a pick a suitable game load in and then choose my role then it bloody crashes/freezes before the game starts for me, a couple of times i have accualy got into the game but then after a short while say 5 mins i crash out. Could this have anything to do with the battle eye anti-cheat protection?, as i know punk buster has this effect sometimes with certian games.

As the thread title say's i'm having a right nightmare trying to get a game of arma 2, i have a steam D/L copy. I have owned arma2 since release and not had any problems with it, i havent played the game for around 6 months as other games have been released and have spent my time on them, but the time came when i returned to arma2 and guess what, i'm getting crashes that make me re-boot as i can't shut the program down even through the taskmanager. Since the crashes i have installed patch 1.05 and the hot fix this didn't help so i verified the game files and then steam had to D/L around 75 file's which took around 2 hours at 550kb/s! this didn't work so i wiped arma2 off my HDD and re-downloaded the whole game from scratch ran the game on 1.04 patch and it all worked but i couldn't try online as there were no games running with players on, so i applied patch 1.05 the games works in single player as far as i can see ( but i haven't played/tested it much ), the game still crashes/hard locks when i try and play online! yes i'm making sure i'm not trying to join servers that run mods like the ace2. I'm not running any mods myself and haven't messed with any files bar running the 1.05 patch, the only new hardware i have is a second monitor which i can't see messing the game up and have tryed running the game without it on. My specs are; AMD 6000 x2 @3ghz 3GB ram 800mhz nvidia BFG 8800 GT 22" monitor 750 GB HDD XP pro SP3 My rig has ran this game at med to high setting's in the past but now i'm getting errors. Sorry for long post.

yeah i sold it to a friend and he installed it last night..(on the 5th try) it kept crashing at 99% uninstall.exe. like i said im just gonna buy it from steam on the 30th its £5 more though. my flatmate has a copy of arma2 and now are mate and im the one that told them to buy it..lol and it wont work on my p.c..av been waiting yrs for this game..sod's law! they keep telling me how great it is the a**holes... my rig is old but can still max out the latest games.. amd 6000+ @3ghz BFG 8800gt 3ghz 800mhz ram 22" display i done a clean install of xp sp3 about 2 weeks before arma2 was released.

yeah nice one. but i have try'd it that way and it throws another error at me..;( i dont think its my optical drive as i have done a few other installs after trying arma2 to see if it works but it has been acting funny ever since i put that damn disc in there also its a ultra speed and the firmware is up to date. i dont know what the problem is and i dont want to shell out £20-£30 on a new one just to find its not the problem.. anyway i have sold the game now to a friend so im in two minds to ether buy another optical and then another game for the tune of £50 all in or just wait till steam release it.. i think personally it was a duffer disc and there is nowt wrong with my optical drive..after all it's happened many times before..

im getting the same problems mate.. this is one problem i dont need at the min. i feel like smashing the bloody computer its got me that wound up. i bought mine from GAME this morn and av been trying to get it working all day.:(

well i've just bought arma2 today and here i am on the forums looking how to get my game to install rather than playing it..:mad: im getting the same problems as the people above: file read errors mostly the G:\arma2\addons\anims.pbo.gz but others have also popped up. i have try'd to copy the disk to a file then run from the file but i then get another error. cannot copy building:the wrong diskette is in the drive.insert (voulum serial number:) into drive building. also i dont have a percific manufacturer of my dvd-rom as it just has (standard cd-rom drives) as a name so any updated drivers are a no go! i have looked in the right place and the only info i has there is HL-DT-ST DVD +RW GSA-H21N the current drivers i have are (5.1.2600.5512). i dont have a clue why the game wont install i have disabled my anti-virus and firewalls has anyone fixed this yet?
