500ms+ Sound Latency issues
Hippy Druid replied to Hippy Druid's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Thanks for the reply MPBR. I have never actually encountered a problem with the sound in any game that a few adjustments to the hardware acceleration hasn't fixed. In saying that, I was dubious about having multiple audio drivers running on my OS, for obvious reasons. Anyway after your post I gave it some further consideration. This is exactly what I have done, I should have done it earlier. My problem now has a workable solution. I downloaded the realtek AC97 drivers, installed them, restarted etc. All I need to do now is swap between either the EMU drivers or the AC97 drivers in Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Hardware>Properties So far everything works as it should. My audio device responds correctly and accurately when using the appropriate software :pet3:, and Arma 2 plays and sounds fine. Thanks Hippy -
Howdy, I have recently downloaded the Steam version of Arma 2 but I am experiencing a very frustrating sound issue. I had downloaded the non-steam demo version of Arma 2 and this also had the exact same sound latency issue, so I am pretty sure it's not due to the steam version. I am running an AMD FX60, 9600GT, WinXP SP3 and I have an EMU 1616m PCI sound card, updated with the latest EMU firmware and drivers. I am only running a stereo setup and not a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound setup from my device. Anyway, I can fire up to a 3 round burst before I will hear any kind of sound from the rifle. The shots are firing when I press my mouse button, and registering at appropriate times for the distance etc, so I am confident it is not some other kind of lag issue, but an actual delay in the sound. I have had a bit of a search on these and other forums for the last few days, and tried a number of things to solve the issue: These range from changing my sound hardware acceleration levels through the four different settings, and infact I won't get any sound at all unless I am on the minimum (Emulation) setting, which is fine, but I get sound latency. I have deleted my sound drivers and re-installed them. The DX9 redist is included in the steam download, so I know it's not a lack thereof. I have tried editing the profile config file to enable 'soundEnableHW'. I also tried this with a combination of adjusting the hardware acceleration, nothing. I have tried disabling 'soundEnableEAX' in the config file, again nothing I have tried the -dsound command line. I have tried adding Steam.exe & Arma2.exe to the ffdshow audio codecs exception list, and still nothing. It's becoming a very frustrating experience when trying to play a game, as other sounds are not being heard until a fraction later, which is annoying when someone is trying to shoot at you. It's definitely not a problem with faulty hardware, as I use my sound card every day for other applications with absolutely no problems whatsoever. If anyone has some suggestions I haven't tried, (and not rolling back to AC97) I would greatly appreciate it. Arma 2 is a great game, I get good FPS, and it's a very playable game. I just hope I can fix this sound issue. Cheers, Hippy

Sheesh some of you guys are just e-tards. The guy has a genuine gripe and you slam him for his spelling? In case you hadn't noticed it's the internet, people have varying levels of education, not to mention coming from countries where English isn't even their 1st language. As long as someone is getting their point across without being rude, is it so hard to look beyond a few typos? Or can't you accept the fact he is being critical of your much loved game. Wake up, look around, you should be so good at that after playing your military sims for so long. He isn't the only one complaining about the same issues. His request for money back was tounge in cheek, but I guess you English comprehension teachers missed that eh? ...and spelling was all you had? LOL @ YOU! Who really is the trollboy here then?:p

If it was posted on the 24th that it would be released tomorrow, that makes it the 25th yeh? It's already the 25th here in Australia, so can I suppose that as it is due at 2pm GMT on 25th June, that would be about midnight here in Sydney making it about 00:00 AEST on 26th June? -
using an xbox 360 controller in the PC version

If that isn't too much trouble I would be interested to see how you have that setup! Cheers, Hippy -

So, correct me if I am wrong here, you don't actually use the keyboard, unless of course you need to type messages or something similar? You use the controller for movement, and your mouse for aim? Interesting! Do you stick the controller to your desk to prevent if sliding around? I wouldn't mind hearing a little more about the way you have this setup! Cheers, Hippy -

I can handle using a dual analogue controller for flying helos and driving. Infact I wholly endorse it! However, I cannot understand why anyone would think it is superiour for infantry play? Just so we're clear, this isn't a flame at analogue controller users, but more of a statement from my own experience and a reqeust for some further info on users of the analogue controllers purely regarding Infantry play!! So, how do you do a quick flick 180 degree turn with the controller?, or is it as simple as pulling down on the stick? Which is still wierd if it is the case, because what happens when I want to turn 120 degrees left and not 180? Just having the slightest amount of play (time taken to move from left to right or up and down) on the analogue controller is a hinderance when you compare it to a mouse. Plus using your thumb or another digit to pivot is not nearly as accurate as the pivot from your elbow. With most newer mouses there are sensitivity adjustments, which enable you to trick the sensistivity to your needs on the fly. So this allows me to utilise my entire desk space to move my mouse - handy for precise targeting. Or I can move my mouse a couple of millimetres and I can be doing 1080's if I feel the need. Obviously sensitivity settings can be applied to pretty much any periperhal, but I still fail to see how the analogue controlled could possibly be superiour for Infantry play. Infact there is only one thing I can think of which would be of any use when using an analogue controller for infantry play, and that's the fact it may be - for some people- easier to keep the crosshairs on the horizontal plane whilst looking left and right. As I can do this with my mouse, and change the sensitivities of up/down left/right I can still utilise this exact same technique. I would like to hear some other thoughts, especially those that do purely use an analogue controller for infantry play. I think the analogue controllers have their advantages in other facets of play, but I still fail to see how during infantry play. My 2 Bobs worth. Hippy -
I used UPS recently to have a 48v PSU sent from Oklahoma to Sydney. It left the US within a day and a half of me placing the order. It arrived in Sydney, and spent a week here before being dispatched to my home. I think UPS are pretty efficient, it just bites that at my end here in Ausland it takes so bloody long!

Will ArmA 2 support FreeTrack?!
Hippy Druid replied to mr burns's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Steam has graciously told me I am able to pre order Arma 2 from them. Good stuff!! So, I have spent the last few days, checking out the Arma 2 website, Youtube, and a few other sites, trying to get a much eye candy as possible on my screen, just to help me decide if Steam's offer is worthwhile. Well, I must say I am impressed, and the option of using a head tracker for looking around, brilliant. (I am aware this has been in Arma for some time, so take a ride flamers) Awesome gfx, awesome concept, and it's available in a few days time too. Wheeeeee..... I haven't been this excited about a game in quite some time. Wheeeee x2......... Let's go read the Arma 2 forums, to see what's happening over there. Yep, just as I thought, excited folks gearing up for war. Good Stuff. Getting primed now, it's 6 days away still but, hell I should pay for it now just in case the missus decides to do something dumb like getting her hair done. What the. ??!!.................. It's not going to be compatible with Freetrack? WHAT. THE. ??? **EDITED by the author to leave out the more emotive response in my post!** Do you know how deflated that made me feel after the last few days of excitement? Yeh I guess some of you do, which is why we have this thread. Two thumbs down! Damn, prehaps I should tell the missus she can go get an new colour aswell. Hippy
