  1. I have spent the best part of 10 or so hours trying to get multiplayer to work on the steam downloaded version of ARMA2 OA. I get "you have been kicked off the server" or "this server requires battleye" I also get: "DLCsetup\PMC\PMC_Data\addons\air_pmc.pbo" - decryption of headers failed. I have attempted to install battleye 47 different ways...... I like this game but would just prefer a working version of it. I have spent well over $100 on all of the addons etc & have had no success in getting assistance from either steam direct or the forums here. How do I get my money back from Steam? so that I can go and purchase it from another provider? Ultimately I will just put a chargeback on my credit card but I would prefer to get this game working on multiplayer as when it is working, its worth the money.
  2. Yep I know that now I did have the game before but lost the install files. Now I am buying it again but it will not be steam as me and my brother in law have organised a day over christmas to get stuck into it. Cant wait:yay: Also the two problems were interlinked, once I deselected the second instance I was able to join the online games & the error at the start disapeared.
  3. OK thanks very much, I will give it a try.
  4. This is the second time I purchased this game - its a great game. Its a real shame I cannot play online though..... Did they name steam because its a steaming pile of crap?? The distribution system should not interfere with the ability to play a game. Whenever I try and join a server that has Battleye enabled, it kicks me off. I have tried replacing the dll file, reinstalling from the exe, reinstalling by right clicking the steam icon, running steam as administrator. I read through the entire thread that deals with this problem & there seems to be a large number of people having had the same problem & no single concrete answer on how it is supposed to be fixed. I have installed the following from steam about 3 days ago & they are the latest versions (I think) ARMA2 ARMA2 - OA Private company British forces I run Win 7 - 64 bit 16GB of RAM 2x 6850 radeon cards 2x velociraptors in raid 0 (it runs as smooth at full settings:yay: Still, my enjoyment comes from playing online & I cannot do it, it is really frustrating.
  5. Just installed this game and getting the same problem, all I want is to get online and have a game......

    Who got crossfire to work?

I have crossfire working in ARMA2 with both windows 7 & Vista. Working is a loose term though, it makes absolutely no difference to the benchmarking scores in game. From my point of view at least, I completely agree with the article and am going to hock off my 2 graphics cards and do what I should of done in the first place and buy a decent single card.

    Mild Sexual Themes?

They cannot be hookers because I tried everyway and there is no way I can find to pay for one of them.

This really ticks me off..no information..

No they definitely used to annoy me as well, I just dont bother helping anyone that cannot help themselves. A description of the problem in the title is very important. People that cannot be bothered to post the solution to the problem after asking for help are an irritation as well. I think they should in circumstances such as this bring back flogging.

    Ranking system, why not?

On the surface ranking seems like a good idea until you see a group of muppets in game purposely shooting each other then reviving, shooting then reviving etc. As they say in Thai boxing "The belt is in the ring"
  10. Scenario 1 We are going to drop you off on a large sparsely populated island with no mission objectives to talk of where you will be working in co-op with heaps of other people who a) you dont know and b) dont know what they are supposed to be doing either. People who are serious about simulated combat enjoy spending hours waiting for something to happen, and if you dont like it, we can transport you via a long boring chopper ride to the nearest BF2 theatre. In our mature level Co-Op missions which dominate the servers (and rightly so, it keeps heathens away) you can expect immersive action for 1 minute out of every one hour playing time, which is a great way to learn tactics and strategy. Scenario 2 You are put into an area where the enemy is seperated by less that 800m with 10 humans against 10 humans. Because the action is so condensed, you are able to quickly learn what does and does not work and are able to make large changes in the score by working together using tactics and strategy. Conclusion Small PVP maps are a better environment for a beginner to learn how to play the game in a team environment. Its a shame there arent any...... Went on last night and 20 out of the 20 servers I could play on were Co-Op. Whenever there is a server that has PVP, it quickly gets crowded and is hard to join.

    PvP: An Endangered Species

The thing is, I really dont care if I win, I play a game for the games sake. Just give the option, if people dont take up on it then have the AI auto populate to fill in and they can go play on the other team. I can think of nothing more exciting than defending a town against a much larger force. Team work using spotters, AA, mortars and an effective defensive system would be so damn exciting, and the acheivement felt in actually preventing a towns capture would be so much better than the current goal of "awaiting orders" that are in most maps played.
  13. Why do Co-Op & PVP game modes have to exist? Too repetitive to play against other people? So you would rather a spontaneous AI that is made to simulate a real persons actions but dont want to play agains an actual person? Its like wanting a blow up doll over the real thing!!!

    PvP: An Endangered Species

What I am really failing to grasp here is that when you go into a Co-op game, its always against AI. Now lets take that phrase AI for a second, its artificial intelligence right? It an attempt to get a computer to behave like a human would in the same situation. I have a revolutionary idea, leave the Co-Op games exactly as they are with one minor exception, just replace the AI that defend the objectives with real people. Co-Op people still get to play their game the way they want and the people that enjoy playing against another human & in a defensive role also get some enjoyment. I cannot see why that would not work. Remove the AI from the game, its not that hard really, then everyone is happy! I cannot see how doing this would detract from the co-op game style in any way unless of course the AI behaves so differently to a normal human that it changes the way the game works, in which case all the more reason to remove the AI from the game. Its a self defeating argument, if the AI behaves just like a human then it makes no difference if they are AI or human, if the AI does behave differently then it should be removed to make the game more accurate. I am at the point where I am tempted to shelve the game for 6 months to see if it becomes more exciting. I can live with the bugs, the patches and all the other things that come with a new game, what I can not live with is wandering around a virtual world for 2 hours being bored, I can do that in the real world. Its great that people recommend learning the editor etc, however some of us purchased a game because we want to play it, not to tinker with creating the perfect map. I see no reason why those maps out now cannot allocate the AI positions to real people eliminating this massive void at the moment of being able to play an exciting game. The game is really boring on the big co-op servers out there at the moment, and I know I am not alone in thinking that. These servers are going to be the determining factor in whether this game retains a big self sustaining following and be able to convert some of the single dimensional players (like myself) into players that can work well in a team and play the game at a higher level. .

    PvP: An Endangered Species

If its a military simulator as the name suggests then the fact the mission is not balanced means its more realistic. If every game was balanced in every way including expertise of the participants then it would always end in a draw. I would love to play a game where I have to defend a small area against a large opposing force. Khe Sahn, Monte Casino, Somme, they were all real and unbalanced....
  16. Excellent post You know what I discovered about myself? I am a follower! I dont want to order people round, I dont want to command a team, fly people in helicopters or any of that other stuff....yet!! What I want is to do what I am told and be able to work in a small or large team of people together AGAINST OTHER REAL PEOPLE This is the average mission for me on the only servers that are operating where I live: 1) Wander around a carrier for 5 mins watching other people wander round waiting for transport. 2) Get in chopper for 10 min flight. 3) whilst waiting on 10 min flight check mission orders 4) Ah surprise, there are no mission orders 5) Check various red circles on the map that look like they might hold some promise of action. 6) Try and talk with people on the boring ride to the drop off, nobody has teamspeak.... 7) Get told off for carrying out a DSOT on the chopper machine gun because I am bored 8) Land at the red circle and watch as the entire group of passengers on the chopper scatter in every direction with absolutely no co-ordination. 9) Find that there are no enemies at the red circle because 2 mins before we landed it went green. 10) another 10-15 min wait for a transport to the next red circle where there seem to be no enemies either. 11) all of the above is best case scenario that the chopper we fly in does not get shot down or the pilot crashes killing everyone on board. 12) My wife comes in and tells me I have used my computer game quota up for the weekend and all that without firing a shot in anger..... This game fails to easily organise groups of people who want to work as groups and who may not be experts yet at the game from doing so. Its such a shame because it really has huge potential, it has more potential than any game I have ever played which makes me so annoyed. I think the majority of people playing this game want to do the right thing and dont want the hemmed in BF2 experience that Xbox fans love. We do want a proper simulator that simulates the exciting parts of battle and not the boring parts. Honestly, I reckon train simulator is more exciting than this game at the moment for most of the people playing.

    PvP: An Endangered Species

I agree 99% boredom and 1% excitement, as close to real life soldiering as there is. I think the problem on the servers I have been playing (co-op ones) is that they are still full of people who have no idea what they are doing including myself. When I go into the task area it says something silly like "awaiting orders" so there is no defined mission. Only ever seems to be 3 or 4 people on teamspeak. Freedom is great and thats why I love the game, but take for instance the mission leaving the carrier, its 10 mins travel time to any action excluding the fact there may not even be a helicopter to travel in. I may as well go and make a coffee and read the paper, whats the point? The biggest thing for me is I take no joy in shooting an AI soldier, it bores me to tears. I get great joy knowing that I shot a real life person within the game, because no matter how good the AI gets, it will never be as satisfying. My question is, whats the difference to the people who like co-op whether the town they are trying to attack and overun is held by bots or real people? At least let me have the option of taking a bots place in a co-op game if I want to.

    PvP: An Endangered Species

I am so sick of the co-op maps that have you traveling for ages, sure if I was on the dole and had 12 hours a day to play video games, I could see the attraction. Unfortunately I only get 2 or 3 hours a week to play, so far 95% of that has been spent either traveling in helicopters or wandering around deserted towns that were cleared 5 mins before I get there. It really pi**ses me off because I got on a PvP game the other night and I got a glimpse at how exciting this game can be. If the decent PvP maps do not come in the near future, then the game will end up not getting played. Now I have a spare server sitting in my office, how do I go about setting that up as PVP only? Do I need a license to only host the game? These Co-op games are so boring and you can just tell that about 15 of the 30 people playing do not have a clue and are wandering around just as aimlessly as myself. If I wanted to shoot AI, I can play single player!!! I want PvP with 15 - 30 a side, on a map that is set in one town, no running, no flying for 20 mins to get there, how good would that be? ---------- Post added at 12:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:52 PM ---------- Smaller playing areas will also speed up the game and encourage team work. Nothing worse than seeing your squad leader 8000 metres away with no transport. I have enough reality in my life, I play computer games to escape reality. Yes make the game realistic, but there is no need to simulate the boredom just so you can say, well, its realistic.....

    Who got crossfire to work?

I thought crossfire will only work on one display! Enabling crossfire disables all other screens apart from the primary on my system. When I enable crossfire my other 2 displays go blank, are you saying that even though they are not being used, the mere fact they are plugged into a DVI slot in the second card, it will prevent Crossfire from working? That would be a real hassle to have to unplug each time. Whats the point in being able to disable and enable it within software if you have to still unplug things.
  20. Just did the test and have confirmed my suspicion and that is crossfire makes no difference in this game.... Did the Arma2 bench with stated settings and got: 2736 with crossfire enabled 2732 with crossfire disabled CPU - I7 920 RAM - 6GB generic HDD - Velociraptor x2 in raid 0 GPU - 4850x2 OS - Vista 64 bit RES - 1680x1050 I am now depressed, I paid several hundred dollars for an extra graphics card that is now as useful as a house brick....Specifically for this game.
  21. I love the game, love it in the strongest means possible. This was before running the patch which I did not know existed. I bought and paid for ARMA1 but gave up trying to turn myself into a soldier from a seagull. Loved Operation flashpoint and could not find a game as good as that in all these years until now. At least I know that if I am in a terrible car accident where both legs need cutting off, life will still be worth living.... Running it at 1920x1200 In one of the missions where you are taken by a half helicopter/half plane thing on the way to the rotten apple, when you get out and look back at it taking of, it looks so life like its incredible. The castle ruins are also so nice. Right now I am aimlessly going round the map and shooting anything suspicious. I found once you get to the manhattan mission, some of the objectives are not all that clear. Tracers and HE rounds out of the LAV are fantastic. I am doing my best to destroy a tank with a LAV but its my 21st go and I am still getting a hiding, but its worth it just to see the HE hit the tank and then all the smoke. This mission though needs more enemies:bounce3: One thing though, I cant get into any tanks, it just comes up with an arms reload symbol, will that occur in later missions?
