How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
MPBR replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yep, I think I am also playing a different game to you. Thou, if a member is injured or even yourself, you cannot stand up due to being wounded untill healed ..not sure how you would say thats a bug ? Had 0 BSOD's or crashes since DL the german version and both patches. Even had a killer of a custom mission (well just a silly mass destruction setup with everything set to Vhigh) with about 100+ choppers and many tanks and inf that makes my rig crawl @ 1-2 fps with all 4 cores sitting around 80-100%, and even that will not crash my system (takes about 5 mins for frames to increase but fun to watch). Again thou, I think this thread should be in general .. maybe it can get moved ? -
If your playing a vs FPS then yes, the above can get annoying (thou its not that hard to find compititve leauges where that does not happen). But its not as bad for A2 when you are doing squad /clan based co-op missions. grab 20 mates / squadies and a new custom mission, get a squad leader that allocates sub teams with objectives and have one of the most immersive 1-2 hours in a milsim you can. Moving from cover to cover and covering your mates as you all head to the objective, watching other teams approach from other directions or providing overwatch. Calling in mates in air support once AA has been taken out and see the death they can deliver if there is 2 much armor etc. I love the editor and making missions, but A2 online co-op with a tight group of friends or squaddies really really is a different game again.

Yeah, outstanding KB for gaming, really really great. But the rest of the KB was average. I have 3 full length Wolfclaws and am now retiring them for there new one. It does not have the rest of the KB just the left hand control pad thing. That way I get to use the G15 and wolfclaw together. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3354 Again, once you get used to the wolfclaw it really makes a huge difference for any game. Another thing you could try is a program call autohotkey or something (been a bit since I used it) But you can remap any KB control to any device / other key combo etc.

Out of curiosity have you tried with just 1 of the 295's enabled ? -
Resolutions make no difference to my frame rate?

Eariler the comment was made, you pay to play. And its spot on. If you want to play the latest PC games @ high res with lots of eye candy then you need to keep your rig on the edge. And there is more than just A2 out / coming out that can benifit from upgrades, especially when you start gaming @ high res (see >1680). Case in point - Review all the crysis posts / whines where people were muffed that there 6x / 7x series cards could not play native res @ max. FC 2 was kinda the same as was oblivion. You can;t compare OFP performance to A2. AI is a killer and to a degree the next holy grail in gaming. There is a reason that there was development etc into discrete AI processing cards. Was a great article from the MTW about the limitations and requirments on AI and the processing required. There was discussions of throwing alot of AI routines into PhysX cards from nvidia, and I hope like hell down the track we actually realise this. Either combined physics + AI processing on 1 spare PhysX card, or throw 2 of your older cards in and use one for each. Hell I did a fun mission with ..ok quite a few units / air / armour etc and I watched as my Quad CPU went to 98-100% on all 4 cores and stayed there for about 5 mins. Then the remaining units only dropped it back to 95%ish. I am also wondering, some report that in the main map etc there dual core's never get over say 30-40%, yet I can confirm that my Quad gets hammered as more and more units get added. I wonder if there is some scaling of AI rountines based on CPU availability / power. That some AI get taken off an advance AI routine and get a more basic scripting applied. It may explain how some people report really dumb AI that TBH apart from the AT - AA weapon dance swap I have not encountered. -
Has anybody got full performance

1920x1600 125% fill 4K Viewdistance Everything on High / very high save for post process lowest around 40fps in utes missions (200+ when looking up or down) lowest around 25fps in main map -
Be nice if a full set could be included in the next G- update. Been a bit since I last dived into the profile's but I think you can export a profile of others to use as well. But yeah, G-KB's really make some games so much eaiser :D

like holding alt, looking left/right and useing the KB to strafe. It just works seemlessly. Often times I am looking in 1 direction while strafeing / moving mouse around. The situational awareness that TrackIR offers is great, following a Fire Team leader in many clan Co-op missions, being able to scan the area as moving and then quickly turn to the other side to ensure I am still in postion / formation is worth every damm $ of it. I used to use Alt to do the say, BUT using comms / strafing and ALT looking does not always workout given lack of 3rd or 4th hand:D . And this is just as Inf... as for flying .. its indespensable. I also partake in online sim racing, and had been eyeballing a trackIR for them a bit ago, but resisted. After getting it for A2, and now using it in LFS / rFactor I feel wrong when I don't use it. Really helps for hitting tight apex's and passing moves (Touching is bad in Online Sim Racing). All in all, I would have payed more for it even for just 1 game.
-
It also depends on the Server, I have jumped into a 30-40 player server and had normal fps (around 30-40 min @ 1920 with high/veryhigh) and others with less than 10 and it was choppy as all hell. I think some of the servers are over optimistic with what they can handle playerwise. But so far, I have had 0 issues with MP (Apart from some servers chunking as mentioned above) , normally domination for public servers, and cutome co-op missions with 20-30 in a clan.

Again, A2 has a campaign ? Wha ? Really, grab 20 of you mates or join a clan / squad and really experiance what A2 is about. Use some player made CO-op missions, get a good squad setup and comms and enjoy working as a close nit team with specific roles and duties. Again, a good squad working its way through mission objectives really makes A2 come to life, it really is like a completly different game to the single player part.

A2 has a campaign ?? wha.. 15-20 man Co-op missions with close mates / squadies is really how A2 should be reviewed with player made missions, thats what A2 is really about.. -
How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
MPBR replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Meh, Every game that has been released always has the same type of posts on there forum. Just look up Crysis posts when it was released, or oblivion, or FC2, etc -
You missed the point entirly.. Ever compared a game @ 1080 to a LCD 30" @ 2600x 1600 ? PC Monitors offer Much greater pixels per square inch. a 50" screen should be around 4500+ in res. Again, A2 has engagments at medium to long range, 1080 on a 50" just will not be able to render enough details. 1080 is stilly kinda crappy as the PC community has exceeded 1080 a long time ago. If you think 1080 looks good, then I think you would be blow away if movies were released for 30" @ native. 1080 is great compared to SD .. no questions, compared to PC screens >30" .. its crappy.
-
While I have a PS3, I don;t think I could ever play A2 on it. Apart from the issue performace, apart from the issue of controls, The biggest reason is that full HD (1080) is ..well crap. On a 50" screen 1080 res is really really crap (sorry just can't think of any better way of saying it). Most missions I play solo (with AI squads) or with clans, alot of engagments happy @ 300m - 800+M's. Trying to ID a inf unit on a crap resolution of 1080 on a 50" its just blocky and very messy / crap. (Yes I tried a few games on the 50" over the time). Its why console games usually have very close action / events etc, full HD just is not good enough on large screens. Conversly, when I get to use the 30" LCD monitor (Mate's who spends a fair bit of time overseas on business I get to err "keep it safe") its not an issue as you just up the res and all is good (depending on PC spec of course). And its apples to oranges comparing a 50" @ 1080 on 1 game, and then playing same game on PC on the 30" @ 2600. In the end thats why I no longer have any games for the PS3, its purly now just for movie watching. TBH I still find it hard to belive how much ppl rave about HD, its about 10+ years behind the curve (I remeber running 16x12 in the eary 90's on a crt, most people with a decent PC have been running >1080 for the last 5-6 years with LCD's (Ok only just greater in the case of 22-24" screens but still). Of couse, if there were screens in the 40"-50" range with decent resolution opitons, it would then kill any console, at least for PC's X-fire or SLi is an option, thou might need a rig like this http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-folding-home-team/486609-gpu-milking-machine.html I mean Crysis on a 30" @ native on high settings really is a thing of beauty (just refering to it as a tech-demo showcase - not talking gamyplay etc). Of course, now waiting until Matrox Th2g can support 3 x 30"'s

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=77708 But yes, Xonar D2X Digital out to Yamaha 5.1/7.1 and all working fine. link to a thread from others that had 5.1 issue and some more information for potentional resolutions. What sound card etc you tring it on ?
-
Well in the first thread you did have some suggestions. Your CPU is on the weak side of things, and its know that A2 is CPU heavy. What score does your rig get in 3d mark 06. This will at least give an indercator to what you system should be able to do. Things to try, would be a few of the previous drivers to see if that increases your FPS and make it feel smoother. Also try something like "game Booster" to close unneeded apps / services from the background to try and free up some memory / CPU cycles.

Recieving black screen, game unplayable
MPBR replied to Avgeris's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Well.. Mobile phones..had my share of buggy phones or poor applications that can cause instability... just look at some of the Iphone or even some of the Nokia support sites. If your trying to compare hundrends of thousands lines of code to making a stereo or TV or bike.. A stereo is just a shell with some PCB's, Caps and IC/DSP units and yup, software. Further they have there fair share of troubles too, lookup HDMI switching issues, wrong DSP modes or poor x-over handling. Oh and its not hard to grab the gear yourself and make one. Bicycles - not even sure how you really want to compare complexaty in a bike to programming. Its just angles / stress points / ergonomincs, alot of math to be sure, but not say 300 000 caculations. Programming is inheratly flawed, it has to be typed in by a human, just 1 spelling mistake CAN make it all go out the window. And thats not even taking into account the LOGIC that also has to be up to par. I mean, its not like just typing out 300 000 lines of normal written words (Of course, trying to type that amount even in normal native laungauge without any errors or mistakes would also be a challenge) but its 300 000 lines of code. well minus some for comments etc. Look, I would love to have every software package (be it Games / Server Software / Application software hell even media player software) just work out of the box everytime.. but thats just unrealistic, it will never happen as long as humans have to do the programming. Now throw onto that, financial interests and the ever present expected ROI and it makes it even harder. Software companys like anyone else are only there to make products / services for $$. Extra time / resources is always..ALWAYS subject to Cost / Benifit analysis - its funny just how much power a Cost / Benifit analysis has, its a scary scary entity for any company. As I said before, take some Server software, its $$ as hell and intended to be run on a much small varation of hardware, yet.. there are still ongoing bug hunts and patches due to freaky stuff that can happen. Home PC's and the likes have even more problems, just think of how many different hardware combinations there could be, and then how many different software / hardware combinations there could be. Everyone has there own lillte faviourite perices of software THEY HAVE to have on there PC. Anyway, I have no doubt that BI will get ontop of the show stopping bugs and also imporve performance. I think its great there is a issues list for all to report problems and see existing bugs listed etc. I am tring to think of how many other studios / developers in the gaming industry have had such open to the public. Again, I would love for it to be simple and just work..always... but its just unrealistic. -
Hi all, Hoping I can get pointed in the right direction here, either to let me know I have missed something or that its a know problem (Tried searching on my problem but did not really find anything that has helped). Been working on a mission and found the issue below, so running just in utes atm as a test bed with a very simple mission to reproduce the problem. EDIT: initaly the heli was to be a UAZ, I only useing heli as example but all second vehices seem to have this issue. OK, situation. I have say 2 empty vehicals, 1 x armour 1 x trasport heli (in testing second vehical makes no difference). 2 x groups (1 x group for tank, 1 x group for heli). Make some waypoints and get each group to head towards and get in respective vehical, works great no problems. I then want the group in the tank to drive over closer to the heli and get out, Again no problems all good. The Tank crew are then to get into the second vehical...now we have a problem...:( The tank crew head towards the synced waypoint, and then turn around and head back to the tank and get in. Tried a few different things and different types of waypoints all find the same result. Now, I have not used nor dived into scripts as yet, just started to use inti fileds etc, but I am nit sure if they can help me out here. Has anyone encountered this before or have any suggestions on how to get units to be able to get into 1 vehical, move around a bit, get out and then into a different vehical ? Any help or pointers mucho appreaticated .

Req: Help with basic editor / maybe issue - getin related
MPBR replied to MPBR's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Yep, thats how I thought it should go. Fresh start as your example and had some strange results... On a few occasions: GP1 would just run through the HMMWV. GP2 would run up to the MTVR and just stand there looking at it. Closed A2 right down, started again and got it to work in the test enviroment. Went back to mission and re-checked WP's and commands etc 3 crew would exit tank, run over to UAZ, 1 would enter other 2 would run back to the tank. Will clear and re-do that part of mission and see how it goes. Thanks for clearing up that it should work however.:). was started to make me question myself . -

If it was a $50.00 house, I would still be happy I was able to get another house for $50.00. What was the last "Computer Game" you brought that had the depth and complexaties of A2 that was released without any bugs or problems ? Hell you know there are software packages that run into many thousands of $$ that also have bugs and need constant patches ? -
Humm did you ever get use to ALT - look in Arma ? I did not get used to it.. I got addicted to TrackIR for Inf in a few hours... To the point that when doing mission desigin and testing I hate not having trackir ready to go as I am not in gaming mode (see Using normal KB and not wolfclaw, speakers and not headphones and no TrackIR).
-
Almost agree with all your points...save one.. Falcon 4 was huge Fun for me :D. And I would ..almost kill...almost.. for its dynamic campaign generator in something like Arma.. I have never seen anyother game come close to the dynamic campaign in Falcon 4. On that same list of things I would almost kill for ...would be to have a ARMA 2 - wwIIonline offspring... Anyway, rest of the points were very valid and succint.

Arma Crashes! Help Needed! Searched and Nothing!
MPBR replied to jepaul's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Few quick thoughts Any OC'ing ? Any Error Logs from crash ? Monitored Temps @ crash ? Run a intensive benchmark application to try and stress the system to the same point with same or different resuslts ? -
If its a town / base type target .. then Never Ever try to attack unless you have confirmation that all AA assetts have been taken out (normally a seperate FT or 2 job to remove all AA allowing air assets to be called in for support / moping up) Patrols can also be equiped with mobile AA, again a AH-1 is NOT a mobile pwnmobile, it usually works WITH other units as support as per NouberNou post. A2 is about working with other FT's etc to meet objectives. Fixed AA at a target is normall taken out with inf, HARMS, cruise missiles etc. Usually weapons with a big standoff range.

MPBR replied to Avgeris's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Why do they need to come up with a more detailed argument ? where does it say that they have to ? If its in the tracker, and being investergated, why do they need to say more ? Reading through your posts its seems you have a very limited understanding of just how complicated it is to isolate and fix issues / bugs in very complicated software. Do you know how many possible hardware and software combinations there are ? Do you know what its like to track down an issue onlyt o find for example that its caused by a User having (unknow 3rd party software installed that screws up the rest of the system) or thinking they know about hardware and Overclocking and end up with a dodgy system. And no, not saying that this is the case here, but all these factors do come into play. Every single title released has Specific and strange conflicts at one time or another, again, just the sheer scope of combinations makes testing every single one impossible. I am NOT saying that it should not be addressed or resolved however. Also, if you have spent any time or experiance in software development / issue resolution, priority ALWAYS goes to issues that affect the MAJORITY, and the list works its way down from there (kinda, anyway it also is based on severity of the issue + frequencey(see #. users affected). It will take time, but I have no doubt it will be fixed. As for thoses that seem so upset over losing $50 for not being able to play untill a fix, well. I am sure that you will get more then your $50 worth of enjoyment out of the product when its fixed. And end of the day ..its $50.00 :confused:
