I am not 100% sure this will work for everyone, but I am pretty sure it will help the majority. I haven't been on here in a while but it seems everyone is looking at tweaking graphics settings to fix this problem. But I think I have found our answer. I believe the problem is in fact sound related, and there is an easy way for people to test this theory. Part of the windows audio engine is prone to memory leaks, and it would seem that this memory leak only takes effect on certain enhancements. I found this when i my memory usage was very high with nothing running. After looking at the processes (you will have to 'show processes from all users') I saw that audiodg.exe was taking up a whopping 1.6GB! This problem seems more prevalent in creative cards. But it seems that the current fix is to go into your properties for your main output in your playback devices and go to advanced and disable any enhancements. This means that your sound will be lacking a little in game, and you will not be able to enable EAX. But it will no longer eat up the memory. It fixed the problem for me and I can now play the game! Please post your findings.

Done with Bohemia Interactive! READ IT BI!

Both sides are littered with childish behaviour. You get one or two people coming in complaining that the game is rubbish because of several bugs comparing it to other games. Then you get these people who are lucky and havn't experienced the big problems. Who just come on here and throw abuse at people, telling them to move on to arcade shooters. I've played many shooters, and I quickly get bored with the arcade shooters. It's only ofp and arma that have lasted the test of time with me. I was really hyped up for the release of Arma 2 just like I was with Arma 1. Only to face gameplay problems which make it tiresome to play. And when I and others try to highlight these problems (so they can be sorted), we get shot down and are told to move on. I am sorry but that is not the attitude, and some people on here need to take their head out of their ass. I will keep trying, and hoping for fixes. So I can shoot an AI soldier more than 30 yards away. I just wish I could be one of the lucky ones and then I could start playing with the editor and enjoy the game. -
more accurate while standing than crouching?!
neptar replied to topeira's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Surelly when your are crouching still, aiming your gun. It should be more accurate than standing. As you can use your knee to support your arm that supports the gun. So it has a direct link to the ground. When you are standing, you are supporting the gun with you arm which is parralel to the ground away from your body. This makes it harder to keep it steady. -
Why do you defend it, and try and pass the blame to the consumers? I was really excited about this game due to the videos that have been floating arround. It looked like Bohemia had finally stepped up and polished their engine up. I've got ofp + expansion and arma 1. And while I enjoyed ofp, arma 1 had it's moments. But Arma 2 really hasn't lived up to it's hype. Dragon Rising may be changed suit a wider audience. But from the videos I have seen it looks a far more polished game, but then again you'd expect that. Every game has bugs and problems at first, and patches solve these. But Bohemia take this to a new level. How this game has been released is beyond me.

I did everything thats been mentioned, and turned everything real low. And it was a lot better. Still there, but a lot better. I had a bit of trouble with nvidia control panel not saving the profile for arma 2, so I had to do it globally. Basiccly, for this game to be almost playable you need like 120+fps. But then the game looks crap. The annoying thing is that with video settings turned up so it looks pretty good, I get 50-60fps. And it's nowhere near playable at this fps. I have never seen a game this bad before. It makes me wonder what testing was done on this game. I bet OFP2 won't have these problems, as they'll test the game before they release it!

Serious unexplainable Performance Differences - got proof
neptar replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The engine is just terrible. I know the terrain is huge and that is a lot to take in. But the engine is just really poor. It's like this game is a student project. I really hope they do something about these problems. The game isn't playable at 50-60 fps for me. I get severe mouse lag unless i have like over 120 fps. Which means playing with everything real low, or looking at the sky all the time..... I just wish I could play the game properly. -
I have the same problem. I got the game yesterday, and noticed it straight away. One thing I havn't tried is turning my sensetivity down in my mouse drivers. As at the moment, I have the mouse sens set to the lowest in the game. And the only way I can have any control over aiming, is by real slow slight movements. Anything more and the delay just kills it. There are a few other niggles with the game, but this one is really spoiling it and putting me off. I think I'd rather play OFP that this. Somebody mentioned they thought it was an XP problem, well I am running Vista 64 Ultimate. My mouse is a razer deathadder. And I have no problem like this with any other game or application. But I don't think I will find any help here.
