British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
FreeFrag.UK replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Thank you for your response Dwarden. In response to your post other forms of DLC provided around the same price bracket would include those provided by BioWare for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age, although, I will concede that the level of quality and amount of content has varied from pack to pack. The DLC provided by GearBox for Borderlands which included new zones, mission content, enemies etc etc and I would also like to mention the additional DLC provided by Bethesda for Fallout 3. Although I will say in regards to these games the DLC did improve from pack to pack. I would argue that these companies, as well as RockStar (GTA), represent an almost gold standard in regards to DLC content, however, I will also note that there are several companies such as Activision who are more content to bleed the consumer for every little piece of additional material for extortionate prices. I would also respond by saying that given the patch included a lot of the content for free in the interest of compatability it cannot be argued as content within the DLC, however, this can lead to a circular argument of saying that the content wouldn't have been in the patch without the conception of the DLC from the get go so I will avoid using this an argument. Now to answer your more direct questions - > also what was biggest let down for You? The biggest let down for me is that it seems to be more of a supplement to the BluFor as opposed to an actual addition of British Forces given that it is called the British Armed Forces pack. I understand that it is meant to be representative of a contingent but the contingent seems lacking of key equipment (vehicles). > the short campaign ? (played standalone missions yet ?) The campaign is short and sweet but it feels of lower quality than that included in Arrowhead, I feel as though the Arrowhead campaign really showed off the possibilities in regards to mission and campaign creation. > low amount of weapons? No complaints in regards to the weapons,as none stand out as being missing unlike certain vehicles. Not wanting to end on a negative note I will say that it is a strong addition to the game and a very welcome addition. It also shows a lot of promise for future DLC down the line. British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
FreeFrag.UK replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Just purchased the DLC and for the price to content ratio I'm quite disappointed, yes I was aware of the content prior to purchase and I ponied up the doe anyway, largely because I've desired British forces for quite some time. The DLC in comparison, to that which is put out by other companies for comparable prices, is just simply lacking and unfortunately due to the lack of content within the DLC I can't see it ever really hitting the likes of warfare, although I have no doubt it will be used heavily for various co-op missions. The main area the DLC seems to be lacking is in regards to vehicles for example the Mastiff 2, Coyote and Challenger Mk 2 are missing. The campaign which has been added although of similar length to the Arrowhead campaign feels almost rushed as well as feeling like a step back from that provided by Arrowhead. I was tempted to comment on lack of air assets for the British forces, however, it's not something I really miss as a mission maker as it is a role which can be fulfilled by using American air assets where the Apache just doesn't cut the mustard. Rightly or wrongly I was hoping for a bit more from the British DLC, maybe this is down to my initial impression and I'm failing to see the big picture but for the price to content ratio, as mentioned previously, I feel as though it is disproportionate. A few Project: UKF upcoming (Final) releases from myself.
FreeFrag.UK replied to Pathy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Like many I've been following your threads awaiting your releases with the utmost anticipation. It's dis heartening to see the release under such circumstances. Your work and the work of UKF for the community is fantastic and it's a shame to see you leave the mod scene. But as with all things there is always someone who opts to ruin it for the rest of us. Hopefully the down the line we will see some releases from you but I understand your withdrawal from the scene. Best of luck mate and hopefully still see you active on the boards :) /FreeFrag.UK -
