I'm loving the already superb Alpha so keep up the good work BIS. After playing Arma 2 with a few issues for the last few years in NVidia 3D vision I was really hoping Arma 3 would be a better experience. After installing the Alpha on the first day of its release my hopes were dashed. The 3D in Arma 3 Alpha is probably the worst I have ever seen! I know it's still in Alpha but When 3D vision is activated all I can see are grey shadows without any textures covering them. It is DX11 too so no hope for the current Helix fixers on the Nvidia forums. The Arma series and Flashpoint (original) before that are my favourite series of all time and I really hope Bohemia Interactive could work with Nvidia on this as they are with PhysX. Arma + TrackIR + 3d vision = Perfection.

Still no possibility of 3D vision use. I see there is a vote on dev branch for them to implement it but I don't think they will. Please BI, ask Nvidia to help get this fixed. Still playing the game in flat 2D though and it is fantastic so +1 for Bohemia

sIIIly question but i must ask!
Richie72 replied to ObiWanJacobey's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I would change it or leave it at "Opt out of all betas". That way you will keep the most stable version. I changed mine from Betas which I've been playing for the last 2 months or so to "opt out" today because at the moment now Arma 3 has finally released there is no difference in either version. -
I was using the Dev and its the same as stable. I can get 3d vision to start it's just like I said. Also using nvidia 314.14 drivers. I hope it could be a simple fix Bohemia could do.

Nothing but the sky and a few textures in the background show up with 3D vision enabled. All foreground polygons, i.e gun, arms, body, vehicles, buildings, grass, trees etc etc are light grey with no textures covering them. This is probably the way DX11 shows the textures from what I understand so it would need some work from BIS and Nvidia if possible.

I still play Arma2 in stereo 3D, and it is true that the image can double up when looking down the sight but I have set a couple of NumPad buttons to instantly change the seperation and convergence amounts instantly. It's also possible to set it so when you press, ie, the right mouse button to ADS the seperation changes automatically. As for you saying about your eyes converging and diverging IRL, of course that's also possible with S3D games, otherwise there would be no point to it. Of course it would depend how far "out of the screen" you set things like the HUD or instruments but you'd still have the depth "into the screen". A lot of people only see 3D as meaning stuff comes out of the screen at you, which when it does it looks great but just as much of the greatness comes from the visuals in the screen. P.S Bohemia, the only things that Arma2 isn't perfect at using 3D vision are the sights (as mentioned above) and the shadows set to High or Very High because they are, assumingly post processed and at the wrong depth. It's fine set to Normal though :)

ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead / Combined Operations / Reinforcements update 1.62
Richie72 replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I very big Thank You to all you guys at BIS for your continued attention to all your Arma games and DLCs over the last 10 years or so. You are and inspiration to your profession and strive for the perfectness that us users want too. Even with your upcoming Arma3, you still work on your older projects which no other developer that I can think of does. Thank you for this Bohemia Interactive, not only do you produce the number 1 game that I could ever think of playing, but you continue to improve it. What a feat. Long may you continue, and I would pay you anything for Arma3 because I know you will continue to make it perfect. -
Has anyone managed to use the same custom Face.jpg as used in Arma2? I tried my A2 face but IronFront said it couldn't be loaded.

Can we use our own Face.jpg?
Richie72 replied to Richie72's topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - GENERAL
Thanks Mr Burns, that's worked. Now to find a server that a) will allow custom faces and b) are running version 1.61 not 1.60 !!!! -

Richie72 replied to Richie72's topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - GENERAL
How do I convert my face to .paa? I've edited the .jpg part and it's saved as a .paa but the game still doesn't recognise it. My free picture editor, GIMP, doesn't have .paa as an acceptable extension. -

Thanks for your replies, I'll try and convert it to .paa I know some servers don't allow them but I'll give it a shot. Cheers, maybe see you in 1944. -
Crash to desktop
Richie72 replied to whiskeytango's topic in IRON FRONT: LIBERATION 1944 - TROUBLESHOOTING
I apologise if I'm being thick here (and I am an Arma vet) but what is TBB3 or TBB4? And what's the command line? -
Clobbered my AO install
Richie72 replied to doogerie's topic in TAKE ON HELICOPTERS - COMMUNITY PREVIEW
I can't play my Arma 2 now after installing TOH! I get the message, "Arma2 OA has stopped working, windows is searching for a solution". I've tried everything, from deleting my config files, not using mods, clicking on Arma2 exe directly and uninstalling TOH. Anyone else having this problem and know how I might be able to play Arma without doing a full reinstall of it? -
I've searched the forums but can't find an answer to my specific problem. Game runs fine until I Ctrl Alt Del out of the game to give my graphice cards a rest and chance to cool down because they run at 99% usage at all times, even when paused. When I go back into the game, within a few seconds, the screen freezes and is unresponsive until I Ctrl Alt Del back to desktop where it tells me "Arma2 is unresponsive and needs to close" or whatever that fateful phrase is! Anyone have any suggestions please?

Patch 1.05 compatibility issues
Richie72 replied to bloodxgusher's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've just bought a new Motherboard with an i7 920 and after doing a clean reinstall of everything Arma2 works fine before applying a patch but after applying patch 1.05 and running it crashes to desktop before the main menu! I used to have an AMD Phenom II 940 which ran ok with 2 GTX260's SLI. What could be the problem now? -
SLI not working - please post here
Richie72 replied to Bhairava's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
LRRP Dog, if you search YouTube and look for Rivatuner guide by Gophn. That's how I set it up and it gives a step by step guide how to set the overly complicated way of getting the ingame monitoring tools. Judging by your temps though it doesn't look like it's your GPU temps that are causing your pc to shutdown. -
SLI not working - please post here
Richie72 replied to Bhairava's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This used to happen to me after I added my second GPU I couldn't work out why. I know that my primary GPU was reaching temps up to 100 degrees which I thought must be the cause of the pc shut downs. I then downloaded rivatuner so I could use it's built in onscreen FPS utility and GPU temp utility so I didn't have to keep ALT TABing out if the game. I also set it to show the GPU fan usage and noticed that the GPU0 fan (the primary one) was only running at 20.39% instead of the minimum 40% which was set in nvidia CP. I took my pc apart and checked the cables were properly connected and then tried again. This seemed to work but very occasionaly it reverts to the 20.39% on pc boot so I shut down pc completely and turn It back on which more often than not fixes it. -
Antialiasing and Arma 2-Nvidia

Have you set AA to "use application settings" in nvidia control panel? That works for me Slick Twitchy. -
Arma 2 causing rebooting of my PC
Richie72 replied to Nurgel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm using a brand new OCZ 700w stealthXtreme PSU. Surely this should be up to the job? GPU1 temp has gone up to about 84deg whilst playing and GPU2 runs about 10deg lower. Not sure what temp the CPU has been running but all 4 cores have been running about at 75 - 80%. -
Arma 2 causing rebooting of my PC
Richie72 replied to Nurgel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have also recently had my computer shutting down during SP. I've just added another GTX260 and now running in SLI with latest drivers. These are new GPUs so there is no chance that there is dust in them. What else could be causing this? -
I have just spent £230 on a Phenom II 940 3.0 GHz CPU and Asus M3N-HD HDMI motherboard to go with my nvidia gtx 260 gaphics card and now the game stutters and freezes using my old settings that used to give me about 18 fps in single player. Does anyone with similiar know what settings to change or use to stop this? I've tried numerous things from the threads but can't seem to solve it. Clean install of Vista 32 bit with drivers used

New AMD Phenom II 940 BE and MOBO
Richie72 replied to Richie72's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
That doesn't solve the problem Thrott. Besides I think my hardware far exeeds what is required to play the game with everything at least set to high. -
I am currently using an AMD Athlon x2 6400+ 3.2GHz cpu to run ARMA2. On campaign I can get around 15-20fps but it sometimes dips to low teens. In MP I get around 25-30fps. I run everything on Very High except AA (low or normal) and Post Processing (low, but that's just preference). My GTX260 192SP can handle that without a problem. Can anyone tell me if it would be worth spending £240 on an AMD Phenom Quad Core 9950 Black Edition running at 2.6GHz cpu and a new MOBO. I want to get more fps from this game without compromising on the looks of it graphically. In actual fact, changing the graphics to low makes no substantial difference to fps anyway. My actual question is, How much difference would a new CPU make?
-
Thanks Von Paulus, I've taken the 2 x 1GB Rams out as they were somehow conflicting with the 2Gb ones even though they're all OCZ. Now running at 800MHz. Game is running at about 25 FPS in empty spaces but in a town with AI it still goes way below 18FPS. Hopefully things will get better with future patches and that'll make Arma2 much more enjoyable.

I have been experimenting with all sorts of settings to get a good balance between FPS and visual quality for Arma2 but I'm sure my hardware should be more than capable of what I'm getting according to the "Optimal Requirements"!? I've been trawling these forums and trying different options but no luck. I can achieve excellent results in the editor with no AI but when it comes to SP or MP the results go below 20 FPS. I suspect it could be a CPU issue (although 3.2GHz Dual Core should be more than enough). Is there something I can change on the CPU side of things? Does anyone have any tips for me so I can get a decent experience?
