    BIS community is steadily growing!

I tried hard to find out, but I cannot remember why I bought OFP in 2001 (and after that all games from BIS). I know that I recommended it successfully to some people, to many without success - for it being toooo complicated and tooo realistic. What I like - both of it. I am really wondering since a ten years why I never read something about BIS games in the most interesting german journal on computer, called ct from www.heise.de. I would really estimate that they have the highest potential of readers especially for games like this (tech freakz, free thinking, OpenSource addicted etc. etc.). And they have an enormous reach all over Germany (Switzerland, Austria ... etc. - I don't know, but believe there too).

Mmmm ... too late ... I normally - and for that very reason above said - play Vanilla online.

    Arma: Cold War Assault

OMG ... I just found this thread! Thanx, BIS! Will immediately inform some lazy ol' gamerz long gone because of family and business (only !!) !! ;-)) They'll be amazed like hell! 10 years! And still patching!! But I tell you what: There's something wrong between www.heise.de and you. This should really be in their news. They are serving the whole German IT community with news etc. also about games. Though the attitude/spirit of their customers is much alike BIS games I NEVER read something about BIS. That's unbelievable. What's up? THIS MUST GET MENTIONED there!

    Behaviorism ;-)

Yeah, thx. Well, my annoyance of VOIP has an additional reason. I am working as a consultant and have to talk/listen to people all day long. So I am really enjoying the birds on Everon and the reptiles footsteps in Takistan. But sure I would hear, though loudly yawning, if someone speaks up by VOIP. You also have this optical signal - name showing up in the moment of speaking. And I have little problem accepting someone using VOIP to say hello. But thanx. I think this thread has shown that at last the forum guys share my opinion to a some part.

    Behaviorism ;-)

Sorry, people I cannot believe it. I open a game, like it when people join.:) Someone joins, fights, leaves in the middle of it, or at least when seeing that he will not succeed. No "hello!", nothing. As if he/she and me was robots! Though people see that they go on MY PC (host) to play against/with ME -->> natural person '!! I don't get it. Is this a generation of pseudo-autistic people? My new way of dealing with it: After 5 min of gaming I asked: Are you a robot? Then I say: No answer = kick. And then kick. :butbut: Funny story, I couldn't have imagined before: Once I asked. And asked. And asked. Friendly. And 15 min later I asked again. Then the answer: "Sorry, but I don't want to socialize." Wow - at last an answer! Did I want to 'socialize'? Mmm .... no I just want to here a 'hello!' and not be treated like a machine.

    OA's Mountain Warfare Mission

I like Moutain Warfare a lot. I am much into the Vanilla Game and No-mods games because it's enough possibilities and complexity for me - I don't have the time to play nowadays too often. But also I want OA to be left open for beginners, so I mostly play online and like others to join without problems. I played OF intensenly since 2001, Arma1 and Arma2 ... The crowning of BIS games was the BWmod cti (for OFP) for me ... ever since unreached! My moutain warfare question: Anybody ever managed to command as a commander?

What 3 Things would you like to witness in your lifetime?

    1. Arma3 for Linux, i.e. for freedom, not for no costs 2. Google (back to) doing no evil 3. Extreme Nationalism back to moderate natural nationalism

    Behaviorism ;-)

In the original post I was talking about a game you are hosting on your PC (Multiplayer/Internet)?

    Behaviorism ;-)

Someone here brought a comparison I like very much: :) Entering a bar (= your PC as the host) with people (or even a better comparison: only one person!) playing darts (= ArmaII/OA). Without words you pick up a dart-thingie and begin to throw your darts. Saying nothing. Aaarrgh ... Whereas I wanna make clear that I don't use a microphone/VOIP, because I don't like it to hear constant discussions, coughing, burrrrrrrrrrrrping, nose blowing, farting ... And I like to have a good acoustic about what's going on in the game; VOIP derails me. Insofar I am myself incommunicative ;). But I am very fast on the chat and I am happy that only yesterday I could help two youngsters with some fast chatline advice who at first asked me to skype in which I didn't want to. What I can agree upon is that, especially with VOIP, there is often much too much conversation :o. A nice effect of the chat is that you like to be short because it is less comfortable than just letting out your thoughts (and other noises) into a micro. ps. And, yes, behaviorism is the wrong word for the title. I should have said it is to be read with an pseudointellectual sound in your voice.

    Behaviorism ;-)

Thanx for your comments! And it's true that newbies sometimes have problems with the various channels. "I answered in wrong channel!", I had it sometimes. And also, if you simply say "Hi!", sometimes it's mixed with automatic conversation of the AIs ... ;-) So I turned to using less standard-like-welcome words. Another difference to OFP, which was my best experience ever regarding this topic, is the fact that downloading takes it time and you never really know when people are actually 'ingame', if they show not up on the map or next to you. And mostly communication has gone worse because of JOIP (join in progress). This was not possible in OF and ... I don't remember: not in Armed Assault? At the time of OF, when you had to wait for people to assemble and start together, you really had a short chat because you simply had to wait. You exchanged some info, saw how peoples moods were .. .. and it made MUCH more fun to then go into the fight because it was persons you were dealing with and not anonymous flying electrons in the universe. But you can't turn back time. Nowadays you have to be in a clan or have your mates to have a good game. Not always, but much more often. But ok, I thought I would be the only one annoyed by that and now I am not. Thanx guys.

All the Bis game have Counter Strike sounds

You don't like the realistic sounds because they are natural and realistic. You want an arcadish game not a mil-sim, I fear. As far as I remember BIS invested a lot work into natural sounds. And sorry: Natural sounds are not bombastic sounds, at least not steadily.

All the Bis game have Counter Strike sounds

As we had this discussion years ago, my opinion is still thesame, I realize: Realistic sound like BIS delivers them are the best I can imagine. Indeed I know you can do a lot more bombastic sounds, that is easy. So my vote here is again for pure realism.

    E3 - Arma 3?

The trailer is a bit lame. I like it - but it's difficult to have a mass impact with this reluctant approach. The video in my signature sure makes more people 'come'.

Nobody plays anymore, atleast for MP

Well I have seen numbers growing through the last 18 month ... from 900 average to 2000 on German evenings. On weekends it's normally about a 2400 people visible online and more than 1000 servers. Look here.

    Ragdolls = In .... Realistic wounds ???

I don't need any more gore that I already have. And have had. I have been close to real war and it would hinder me to relax to see it simulated for fun. Lot's of other graphical issues would be of much more importance to me. And BIS has to set priorities, can't work on every issue with the same amount of energy. Additionally it would ruin the spirit of BIS games for me and would ruin the good name which BIS games have. Remember the nice sayings in OFP 1 ... against war. Plus BIS would have to consider strict regulations and legal sanctions. It's no dumb dooom meat shooter but a tactical, realistic simulation - for me.

    3rd person versus Egoshootermode

    Yes. I am right. ;-)
  18. It is always bad not to use the original game in it's pure fashion. I would never like to use steam. I need it real.

The Singularity - Trailer (AI & machines / Humans)

Interesting stuff. And in a way it relates to my thesis here , I mean the 'gating'-thought. Yes, in its double meaning. What I like about BIS-Games is that they attract people who like to think and at the same time BIS-Games make you think. One of my favorite thoughts in the beginning (2001) was: What do the enemy AI troups in the village do when I am not watching them? :-)

    3rd person versus Egoshootermode

Well ... the 3rd-view-problem has been discussed a lot about and your remark has been discussed already in the first post: If you like the "tunnel-view" it's your choice. I would like to discuss the topic of unrealistic amount of windowframes and other viewing hindrances in vehicles whereas the hindrances themselves might be of exact scale. Though they are of exact scale - no realworld pilot would fly the ah-64 in a war situation with the view it has at present because of the reduced view. That's my thesis.

    3rd person versus Egoshootermode

Another optical issue is this: The frames of the windows of any vehicle in Arma2 are - that's my thesis ! - realisticly broad but yet the view is much better in real life: The human vision is able to somehow "thin out" hindering frames or other hindrances. Indeed I am quite sure that noone in reality would dare to fly with such a bad view as the vehicles show in Arma2 (and other games) where there is no correction of "reality". Whereas - don't get me wrong - I only want it to "look" real but it seems to be inevitable to "correct" a two-dimensional-monitor-picture to get a realistic view ... any ideas ?

ARMA 2: OA beta build 77819

I've done a two hours close combat with 5 AIs at my side against a group of 6 AIs on the other side. Everythings fine - especially I feel that my AIs are following me much closer now!

Just want to say: Thank You BIS!

Yeah, nice vid and nice continous support by BIS with beta-patches! Nothing we paid for and unpayable at the same time. Never forget the "Thank you video" from Tophe - below in signature!

    Just my personal thanks/applause...

Yeah, fascinated since 2001 - me too! And the very reason ... see my signature! Complexity, freedom, immersion, open, human-like-AIs - with their human errors: stubborn and lazy sometimes ;-))
