What setting will i be able to play on?

For no Intel -ler helps you: Take a look at my specs .... and compare possibly with "Tom's hardware" ? Put it into scroogle.com and you get the direct link ... Graphic Ram isn't unimportant ... maybe with 512 MByte its much less fun. But I do highest settings. If you do medium, you may get 20 fraps ... which is important.

    what is this game ?

This was in BI games since they first came out in 2001? I love high command, played this a lot since mfcti ... (2003?) with hundreds of cogamers. It shows how great and open this game is. Why do you care what others like to do with AA2? Ok - you said, you just been frustrated ... and just wanted to bash around? Just thinking about my new signature: "If BI games are too open for you, you may be too narrow ... ." ---------- Post added at 10:38 ---------- Previous post was at 10:34 ---------- You understand the thought of "Web 2.0"? User delivered content? Wikipedia? Forums like these? I love BI for giving us such an vastly open game for this comparably little money. It is "little" money to me, because I add (economically - to measure its value) that content, they allowed (better: made possible) the community to add. It's vast, great and endlessly. Every taste can be respected ... and realized. Even yours. And - by the by - BI steadily enhances the game. Like they did since 2001. ---------- Post added at 10:41 ---------- Previous post was at 10:38 ---------- You have all the choices. Just take a look at the current server list.

    website being held hostage?

Be aware that you will no more find real Bohemia Interactive games under their old name "Operation Flashpoint". That name is now (mis-)used by Codemaster to create a copy of the old BI-game Operation Flashpoint. If you want the gaming of Operation Flashpoint you need to get Armed Assault or Armed Assault 2 for Codemaster only has the name, but not the developers and the genius.

The Main Problems of Arma/Arma 2

Thank you for sharing these quite deep thoughts on the subject. I enjoyed reading. But it left me with such a bitter taste.:o Don't we hope there is that "fine line" you mentioned that makes it possible to enjoy the evolution of the game? Also I am not sure whether we don't do this discussion on the "Uncanny Valley" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley in five years again, claiming that AA2 was quite a cartoon compared with AA3? Didn't we consider OF as being quite video-realistic too? I did. And I think I did in 1984 when doing games on my VC-64 ... :o Because I think, I did compare that to ping-pong on the TV screen ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JyAICTiFMM&feature=related

    Is ArmA better than OFP?

Right so. Different games as a result of "evolution". There are already threads of "nostalgia". I like to read them, they have "points" that are true. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=86361 But that's what it is to me: 90 % nostalgia. And that's ok. 10 % is: There are things that didn't run wrong, but erased earlier "atmosphere". For example JIP erases a lot of atmosphere to me: People come and go and don't fight till the end - which is the most exciting thing to do. You CAN win with INF only, if other side has destroyed your HEAVY FACTORY etc. etc. etc. On the other hand JIP is a clear technical jump, because in earlier days you sometimes "lost connection" because of your ISP or PC crash ... and a three hour combat was more than "lost" than ... Nevertheless I prefered the peoples slowly assembling and waiting for others, talking rubbish and this way ... mostly unconsciously ... building up excitement. There is no instant-steady-if-you-please - possibility to create excitement - you gotta be patient in a way. And ... people who left the server without serious excuse during gameplay: They got banned! A whole lot of crappy multiplayer gaming - frustrating to all - wouldn't happen, if you would have no JIP. Gaming was closer and more serious. Sure you can lock the server ... but as you don't have a clan (perhaps), you have no chance. And most important: With JIP people don't "learn" to cling together, they don't share the fate of the troop. But I don't vote for disabling JIP - just have to realize something good happens to destroy a certain kind of atmosphere for serious gaming for non-clan-gamers. But one thing, and happily I could turn it off, I will indeed not applaud to is "post processing". I causes me headaches when turned on.

The Main Problems of Arma/Arma 2

Yeah, that was part of the excitement! ;-) There is no instant-constant-immediate-excitement. That was a real-life-like-danger! Real life lags and has it's bugs too ..... it's just another window and not the best one ! ;-)

    I love ARMA2, should i pick up ARMA1?

Nothing yeah ..... but performance in terms of fraps sure is still better with AA1 - on my rig.
  19. First time I am having problems. I installed all beta patches after they have been released and they ran fine. Then I upgraded to 1.04 - ran fine. Just now I tried to install the newest beta patches for 1.04. Systems says: "You only have 1.03 - need to have 1.04" But as I said, I HAVE 1.04 running. At last installing it was easy and in the main screeen on the right bottom side it says that I *am* running 1.04 ... Clueless ... :-(

The Main Problems of Arma/Arma 2

To me, JIP is the biggest change of all that cuts off a good gaming atmossphere of former times. Talking about no-clan-gamers like me now: You had to* wait for co-gamers ... you waited up to half an hour. There was time to talk and build up an atmosphere. You than *had to* stay in that game for not being banned on that server, if you would just leave without proper reason. There was something like group feeling for a two hours of a cti mission, no steady comin and goin. If I could chose, I would disable JIP for all times - for reasons of nostalgia and group awareness. :) I know you can shut the server and have no JIP. But that's not the same: Few shutting the servers and so especially newbies never learn how to cling together with people they didn't know before. That was some kind of realism for you rarely don't go to war with your neighbourhood friends or schoolmates. But I like AA2 nevertheless ...

    New patch 1.04

I cannot no more read from those who still can't stop bashing BI for "poor" performance. This game is sssoooo open, sssooo vast and so unique. Make sure you understand what you're talking about. The "artificial intelligence" of the AIs sure consumes a lot of cpu-power. And they are "intelligent". Each of them is autonomously and individually reacting to it's "felt" individual "environment". No need to hint to some dumb actions of AIs we all know: That's only human! ;) I remember that AIs in OF "had their own way of thinking" - they indeed lost concentration on your orders and began - after some time - to follow own rules and you had to keep them "up to date" to have them under your control .... I like that human touch. :D You simply can't compare it with "games". BI proved that it made OF, AA1 and AA2 run very smooth - at last for me with my middle aged PC. And I like BI making games for quite the leading-edge of hardware: You can have fun with this for a decade. Many people, like me, still run OF and AA1 - they don't get "old fashioned" for they are sssooo open, sssooo unique and ssssooo open. But it sure takes it time. :o You don't lose nothing for gaming a year or two with 35 fraps for it's simply not only about fraps. It's about tactical gaming, editing, cooperating ... it's about creativity. If you don't get that - you indeed will miss a lot of fun. Thanx again, BI, for that patch! :)
