And my personal view is that the German government acted correctly doing that. I personally wouldn't even have fun online with cogamers who have fun or entertainment with shooting peoples/kids/women "in the face". All school massacre boyz did do a lot of combat videogames. And I know - myself being an example - that you don't exactly run into the next school doing that if you do a lot of combat videogames. I am still at my desk. (And I know about those papers that prove that First Person Shooters don't make people brutal - but I think it depends on the content.) So, there is only a few who change videogames into reality. Many can deal with "cocaine" or/and carrying a gun, some can not. A few but the damage is a few lifes taken. And one lifes taken is one too much. Therefore my personal opinion is to rigidly restrict perversity in videogames and books and movies. And to allow sexscenses instead. People sexually restricted and rigid tend to perverse brutality - only my personal thesis. -
I fully agree with those who stopped playing after the mission wanted them to kill civilians. I will never give my money to such a game. I like the more mature developers and community members of Arma2. This is my PERSONAL view.

Modern Warfare 2 has been censored for distribution in Germany because of the killings of civilians. Source (in German only): http://www.callofduty.de/inhalt/modern-warfare-2-deutsche-version-doch-zensiert http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_2 -
Here's how I got ARMA2 to perform smoothly using RAMDISK
Herbal Influence replied to qwertz's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Maybe the new Virtual harddisk feature of Windows7 can be used and you need no other software? EDIT: Oooops - sorry, Tankbuster, below, is absolutely right! No solution at all. -

How Satisfied with Arma2 Are you??
Herbal Influence replied to mattyh1986's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
There cannot be a 100 % boost for Arma2 needs for good reason much better hardware than all BI games before. Don't expect too much, I'd say and pray. But soon we will here have over 50 % on the "good" side of the poll. It steadily increases ... though the old voters who would like to turn their vote are blocked. ;-) -

How much money did BI make out of Arma 2????
Herbal Influence replied to itsme's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I know it's a bit Off-topic, but don't wanna open another thread just for this: Does anybody know a better source than http://arma2.swec.se/server/list or http://www.xfire.com/games/arma2/ARMA_2/ (worse, because by far not every cogamer uses xfire - I see no reason to do so) on the success of Arma2 in terms of usage of the bought copies? Is swec statistics reliable? Is there any possibility to see it in it's timely shift? Yesterday I saw more than 1700 cogamers online and about a 722 servers. -
I like beamtents ... gives me the famous ol' OFP feeling and ... Mike Melvin I own a great thanx to for having done mfcti which accompagnied me through the years of ... 2002 - 2005 (about). ;-) And I never forget crcti missions with mfstyle "on" which did "cost" me a lot of time in 2005 - 2009 (about) ;-)) though there were no beamtents but other memories from mfcti - like HE weapons for base defense and radar in tank for driver and gunner too. I loved it.

@Celery I explicitly expressed - in quite every sentence I wrote - that this is my personal opinion. Why did you overread that? Why do you say I try to speak for a million other people? I don't and I didn't. Where is your proposed rationality here? On your advice not to listen too much what other people think: I don't. I just fear that BIS will easily get in trouble with rumours spreading that concentration camps / children are "virtual reality" ingame. You may - on a rational basis - say: There is no danger that the game could get forbidden. But you don't. You don't quote German laws and german politics which are in this regard quite "european". You quote ... "Fallout 3": I am happy I don't know that game - as you sure know by now. And as it happens many politicians don't know it too - I assume. If they would it would be in danger to get forbidden. Will you go on saying: There is no danger "Fallout 3" example shows it? What kinda "proof" do you deliver with giving this example? Doesn't politics react to public opinion? And shouldn't it? Does public opinion know "Fallout 3"? You seem to argumentate: They should or can ... That does not hit the point. Maybe they do tomorrow? Or just now? For the sake of BIS, I say, don't risk it. I am gaming since 2001 BI games ... don't wanna los'em. -

Herbal Influence replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Some people asked for rational arguements for not having childrens ingame. I fear it's not a question of rationality but of morals and feelings. And the thread showed in the beginning quite what I love so much about the BI games community: maturity. That got lost somehow. I think that vilas' post is quite informative and mature in most aspects. But he did something which is hard to avoid - I know that from myself. He insulted Killakaze as being from the Australian bushes. (And that as being a bad basis to arguement from ... ;-)) This might have happened for he felt like defending weaker parts of society (children) for being abused ingame "virtually". Shit, "virtual" has different meanings .... dunno the correct word. In German language it means: "by the way of virtualization". This is what I mean. So - he had at a least a proper motivation to act. But the outcome, the insult, is something I don't accept. But I know - and this thread again shows it again - that it's quite an art to discuss things without getting angry and insulting coposters. Just my 2 cents. Back to topic: I cannot go with those who say it's only a polygon. For we use these polygons to help us imagining real life i.e. for a better immersion. And sorry, BI games are good at creating immersion. The best I know. And I don't want children in it, as I already wrote in about a three posts here. And I don't feel the need to dispute about it. That's why my first post consisted of "No. Simply no." It would definitively KILL my immersion. The "raped woman" avatar already gets on my nerves and I am thankful no serious mission so far (mis)-used it. I feel sorry for BIS if there will be a mod with children/concentration camps etc. for we all have to live with the public effects (BI games could get forbidden in Germany quite fast) and the effects on cogamers (doesn't strengthen morals) of this. I feel sorry for myself (and some friends) too for I would have to leave some missions ingame when such things would turn up and I wasn't warned before. -

Herbal Influence replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well - I think this is an interesting discussion with some nice posts. Perhaps the solution lies in here: How far would we go to have a most realistic milsim? Just to give one example: If, one day, PC-monitors are able to splatter you all over with blood or cause you feelings of being shot at ... would we want that for better immersion? If we don't want that why do we want to watch children getting killed for better immersion? Do we like immersion only insofar as it is comfortable for us? So we could end the discussion by saying: Yes, it's not about realism and immersion it's about comfortable entertainment? I don't need to kill virtual children for comfortable entertainment. -

Thanks, andersson. One more aspect: The sharp decrease of users in Second Life has also another important reason: It's not only that you gotta deliver your personal data. Many, like me, don't want to deal with people who are willing to identify themselves just to enter red-light-districts in Second Life. I speak of those who are anxious about their real and private life, not of those who aren't. I don't care about the latter. In other words: My privacy is important to me. People who give up privacy just for killing virtual childs or entering virtual-red-light-districts are not the one I will have fun with online. This may sound elitistic (?) to some, but I will not deliver a speech about the importance of privacy here. -

Herbal Influence replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Just take a look at Second Life (.com) in it's status quo. You need to prove your real life identity for many parts of it. Same would immediately happen to BI games with kids in it. And Second Life is all modded by users. So BI would have to make sure that only adults are able to enter the games and identify them. That's very difficult for practical reasons, not just as simple as it is done on the arma2.com-page. And, secondly, many cogamers, like me, would simple stopp doing BI games when being pressed to give their real life identity, like it happens in Second Life. I think, BI, like me, would say: Thank you, you nice modders, who only feel "haunted" and "immersed" when being able to kill virtual children! Just take a look at the user-statistics of Second Life since the time they had to implement that user-control. It's a sharpest decrease of users ... I completely disagree on having children ingame. But maybe that's because I do have children in real life. I would quit every mission/mod at the time I see children and I think many mature gamers will do. I will even think about throwing BI games in the dustbin after 8 years of gaming. -

Herbal Influence replied to Archamedes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Wouldn't ya kill them if a sniper covers behind them? Or a tank attacks you - children around it? Ok to collateral children killing? It would kill my fun of gaming. (I don't "need" raped woman or other civilists also.) On the other hand I see the danger of hollywoodizing war if you spare out everything "toooo cruel". Like the shitty "Top Gun" with scientologybraindamaged Tom Cruise which was - like close to any other hollywood-war-movie - sponsored by the US government. For good reason. They need cheap cannon fudder. And crazy Tom is - for many - a nice looking chap to advertise clean and sexy war, old-fashioned, primitive manhood. I am against kids in BI games. It's a game. It's not a serious simulation like VBS. It's for entertaining not for professional education. I liked the nice lines on the false prophets of war in OFP1 ... they were entertaining AND caused people to think about war and the outcomes. War is not Top Gun. BI games are not war. It's entertainment. It's cops and robbers ... instead of war. And ... <<Remember: Original Men do fade.>> Just my 2-cent .... -

Nice work! Too bad it is "only" a mod then ... BI should really stay to own old values instead of inventing new things (and bugs) in many aspects. I love AA2 but it's frustrating to see things turn to bad when they once worked good in OPF and Armed Assault: Always hated the view of the AI troops (light green on a very green background ... arrrgh and quite difficult to understand who is gunned with what ... ) and much of the views had been shaped to worse too. But as times and modders come .... ;-) -
