Yeah just wait until you get to the last enemy villages, where the enemy as the HQ's and all that, then you will be pretty much alone destroying several armored vehicles, lots of infantry etc...

If you have never played a military sim then it's hard to say if you should buy it or not, also if your internet connection is that bad you will probably have a few problems playing online, or do you mean that your internet is bad in the sense that you have low traffic limits? The online is what it is, some servers you get some bunch of retards others you get some very cool people, it's pretty much like all games, although in this one I don't see retards staying for long, after all it's not only a hard game but it's also one that is kind of community driven. Anyway getting to the question, it depends if you like realism or not, if you don't like realism then forget about it, if you like fast games forget about it, if you like games that are kind of forgiving forget about it, this game is very tactical, you need to be very careful if you rambo your dead, you need to play in a team, you need to be patient etc... if you like a more slow/tactical paced game with lots of teamwork involved and large scale conflicts then this might be a good game for you to buy. BTW don't buy it if you only intend to end up playing single player, although the single player isn't horrible it isn't that great in my opinion, doing coop missions is a blast.

That's weird my voice recognition works fine without messing with the confidence threshold, but I have read both training texts and did the tutorial, and messed around with it in the windows so maybe is just my voice recognition that as more training hours, anyway the more you use it the better it gets so in some time from now maybe you won't need to mess with the confidence threshold, although it doesn't really make that much of a difference since at least as far as I have tested when I mess with the confidence threshold the program still recognizes the right words. When was the last time you tested windows 7? The only problem I had so far with windows 7 RC1 was with my sound card drivers, but all I had to do was to install them in compatibility mode and it works just fine, well the tuneup 2009 software doesn't work either but that is to be expected. So far I have found windows 7 RC1 to be really really polished, better than XP but since XP doesn't have a really reliable 64 bits mode it's a little harder to compare. BTW in what concerns games when you say it runs better, where you testing games with Directx 10 or games with Directx 9? I'm asking because so far in games that use directx 9 from what I have heard the windows 7 is running just as good as Windows XP.
-
Like I said a couple of times the voice recognition is working just fine, the words are being detected, what it's not working is the keys that are not being pressed when the word is detected, also I already tried that threshold thing and it didn't fix it. BTW if you need to turn of the confidence threshold you probably haven't trained the recognition system enough.
-
Apparently it is a 64bits problem, need to try VAC to see if it works.
-
Not understanding what you mean with the recording options, anyway the program is picking up the words just fine, it is detecting what I'm saying and when I say something that it is in the command list, that word appears in the windows speech recognition window, so it's definitely detecting the words I'm saying and getting them from the list, but it isn't pressing the keys though. I had already tried running as an administrator but thanks for the suggestion, I have also tried to run in compatibility mode but it doesn't work, maybe it's not from being windows 7 but from being 64 bits. Do you have 64 bits or 32 bits version?
-
Ok just tested with with the notepad and it isn't working, it seems like the program is only working when I have the program selected, not when I have another program selected. EDITED: Ok even when I'm in notepad I see the command that I'm saying appear in the voice command box (that thing that stays on top of your screen), which means it definitely is detecting words from the program, yet it isn't pressing any keys.
-
Thanks for the suggestion, didn't remember that, I know that it detects the words, but it seems it's not pressing the keys, anyway I will try it as soon as I get home.
-
I have the english version of windows 7 RC1, I have also tested outside of the game, in windows and I can work in windows just using the voice, so it works just fine, also when I have the PilfIus selected in the command list when I say something like red the red command is selected. I'm using a headset, and it's definitely not background noise, because not only can I use it just fine outside the game, but even inside the game when I say "stop listening" and come back to the windows the windows speech recognition is offline, or when I say a word and come back to windows fast it says in the speech recognition the word I just said, but for some weird reason the commands in PilfIus don't work.
-
Ok, I downloaded the profile, I downloaded the program, I installed the program, I trained the speech recognition, I loaded the profile to the program, activated to always active, then opened arma 2 got into the game and it doesn't work, I know that the voice recognition is recognizing words even when I'm in the game, but it doesn't do any actions. Does anyone have any idea of why it isn't working?

Basically do what richard said and if you can/want go for windows 7 it will give you a significant increase in FPS. -
Thank you and congratulations Bohemia Interactive.

The Devs from BIS have probably played WoW and they where traumatized by the males playing females in the game, and with the fear that their costumers would ever experience such horrors they decided to let them off. [sEXIST]Besides they play the role womans have been playing in wars for a long time, wifes and whores, and lets be honest that's all they are good for (cooking and having sex)[/sEXIST] P.S. To the OP I liked to see your creative take on the subject, satire is always nice to see XD. Dear diary today I finally did it with him, I got in his car and we drove to the lake where we had our first kiss, as we lay there in the ground ever so closely, I started to feel deep inside me that this was the time, as his soft and strong hands caressed my body I started to let my self go, I kissed him in the ear and told him that I was ready, this was the time I had been waiting for, he started to take my cloths softly while he kissed me lower and lower, finally as we lay down on top of each other trading our love in the most intimate of ways, I felt something I had never experienced before, and I knew this wasn't just sex it was love. Truly yours John XoXo Indeed if you where to write something like this, you would most defenitly be a true heterosexual XD. -
Hookers are one of the things that made GTA great, unfortunately for some reason this game doesn't allow you go get one in your tank lol. Empire total war maybe (kind of huge maybe) best RTS of the year, but not best game of the year nominee, killzone 2 really good shooter but it's pretty much just another great shooter, not much else there, resident evil 5 maybe best survival horror game but only because pretty much there isn't competition, the game can never ever ever be game of the year, it has archaic gameplay, the AI is dumb as hell, and the game itself isn't much more than resident evil 4, which isn't a bad thing is just that dead space evolved the genre a lot since resident evil 4. Anno 1404 probably good game but game of the year nominee it is not, call of juarez 1 as good, second would need to be pretty great upgrade from the first one to be game of the year material, DIRT 2 no way in hell especially with forza 3 coming out this year. Uncharted 2 definitely game of the year material, this will be the gears of war of 2009, dragon age surelly a great RPG if it achieves what it set out to achieve (a spiritual successor do baldurs), but it suffers the same problems of ARMA 2 it's probably going to be a "too much" hardcore game, starcraft 2 if it comes out this year (seems likely) it will probably be a nominee, although for me this year RTS was dawn of war 2 it has many problems but it's something pretty new in the RTS genre, also with some luck the new patch 1.4 will solve most of the issues. Mafia 2 isn't coming out this year, call of duty 6 will be nominee but doubt it will win, since it smells to me it will be more of the same but lets wait and see, assassin's creed 2 most definitely assuming they get rid of the problems that plagued the first one, god of war 3 not coming out this year, grand turismo 5 will probably not make it this year. BTW you forgot some games that where pretty good (not saying game of the year nominee) like grand theft auto chinatown, grand theft auto the lost and damned, grand theft auto the ballad of gay tony, league of legends (the game from the DOTA guys), dawn of war 2, infamous, bioshock 2 (the first one was art), Batman: Arkham Asylum (hopefully it will be good), the new flashpoint, brutal legend, left 4 dead 2, splinter cell conviction, and many others. Basically this year we have loads and loads of great games, but only a few can make the game of the year list, and only one can win.

Not blind, just not that much objective about it, like I said in my first post if the awards only took in consideration hardcore PC gamers, then yes it could be nominated, but we don't live in such a world at least not for a long time now.

If you building a computer for ARMA 2 switch the graphic card for a 4890, it runs better on arma 2, if your not building a computer mainly to run arma 2 then switch the graphic card for a 275, the 275 and the 280 have pretty much the same performance but the 275 is cheaper so there is no reason to go 280, also the 280 in my country is pretty much the same price as 285 which makes it pretty useless (in my country). If your not going to clock go for AMD Phenom II X4 955 AM3 or something similar, it's cheaper and as a better clock speed out of the box, but I should repeat only if your not going to overclock, because if your going to overclock then go I7. The motherboard is pretty good, I personally would probably end up in the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, but they are pretty much the same. The ram I can't really advice about it since I don't know the price, all I can say is that the OCZ blade have a excellent price performance ratio. The HDD is OK. The PSU will probably not even start you computer, and even if it does it will cause an enormous amount of stress on it, which is by far not advisable, the brand is good though at least it was for the enermax galaxy, no idea about that model. -

Right now I have a 8800 ultra, 4 GB DDR2, Q6600 at 3.4 and 2 HD single plate in raid 0. I tried with vista and with windows 7, I tried both of them with the CPU overclocked and not overclocked, clocking the CPU is definitely a must especially in firefights with lots of AI, switching windows also increases performance considerably, I got more FPS's and the game didn't stutter at all, this was all at medium/high (combination of both) at 1920x1200, and you should also remember that I didn't tweek the settings, if you tweek the settings like choosing what things should be low/medium/high/very high you can get a better quality looking game for pretty much the same FPS's. Also If I may advice you in your hardware, since you haven't bought the PC yet you should definitely change a few things, like first of all put 4GB of ram instead of 2, you already have games that benefit from more than 2GB of ram, so your basically capping the performance for less than 20€ difference, I mean the DDR2 memories are really really cheap right now, in my country you can get 2x2GB DDR2 (4GB ram) for 50€ and this is Gskill memories (good brand). Now if your really serious about playing ARMA 2, instead of buying the 4870 buy the 4890 the price difference isn't that great but apparently in this game it makes a lot of difference. Now about the OS, although I agree with FlunkyMonkey about the XP 64bits sucking and windows 7 being better than vista, I have to disagree when he says that XP is better performance than the windows 7, the games that XP runs better than windows 7 are probably the ones with DX10, and because XP doesn't run DX10 the games are OFC going to have more FPS's, but they won't have DX10, also the windows 7 beta (it's not even the current lease) runs faster than XP outside of games as well Pretty much all important games run on windows 7 64bits, and no your PC doesn't need anything special do support 64bits, although there isn't much reason to go 64bits unless you have 4GB of ram. Let me explain windows 32 bits (no mater the windows) can only support up to 3 GB's of ram, which means if you put 4GB's of ram your windows is only using 3GB (which is still better than only putting 2GB), now the 64bits version has 2 advantages first it can use more than 3 GB's of ram, and second if a program is designed to make use of the 64bits like crysis it will run faster on 64bits than in 32 bits, unfortunately in what concerns gaming crysis is pretty much the only game to use 64bits. That being said if a game doesn't use 64 bits it will still run equal if you have windows 64bits, so basically you loose nothing to go 64bits, the only possible disadvantage with windows 64bits is that some programs may not work, but not only do all majors games and programs work with 64bits, as I have been using windows vista 64bits since it pretty much came out, and right now the only incompatibility with it that I have found was with the drivers for a wireless linksys card, and you could get around that by installing other drivers, so pretty much there isn't any real disadvantage. -
I hate to quote myself but here it goes
-
Yes but not all games came out like arma 2 did with 1.00, and even with the 1.02 still has good share of bugs, they are probably not that major but still it affects the experience, and in all honesty you can't even compare it to GTA IV, the performance in GTA IV was horrible in the PC, it run pretty well in the xbox 360 and PS3 and the nominations where for those platforms, also the game was pretty much for everyone, it was easy to get in to it, it had depth, it was also huge, it brought new things in what concerns animations with the euphoria engine, and the all product was top quality very high budget stuff (100 million dollars to make lol). Not saying that it has more merit than arma 2, I'm just saying that are 2 completely different products and one is much more suitable for the general public while the other (arma 2) is much better for the hardcore people.

Yeah at that resolution you will most definitely not play very high, I also have that resolution (actually 1920x1200) and it's pretty heavy, anyway test the demo and see how it goes if your close to the settings you want but need some extra FPS's you can overclock your CPU and install windows 7 RC1, this 2 things should give you 10 or more FPS's, actually you should install windows 7 RC1 anyway 2GB of ram is really not much for windows vista. -

There isn't ultra high, only very high unless you consider ultra high something like very high with a ridiculous unecessary draw distance or something, anyway to the point, no your probably (note the probably) not going to be able to play at the highest settings, you will maybe achieve high or medium/high, anyway don't worry the game looks awesome even in medium, and BTW what's the resolution your going to play at? Anyway test the demo since ARMA 2 isn't really that predictable lol. -
In short no. Now the long version, it could be game of the year if we where living in a world where a game only had to be good for the hardcore PC gamers, unfortunatly we don't live in such world and as such the game doesn't even qualify to make the list, it has to many bugs, it's way to hard to get into it, it isn't forgiving, it's way to complex, etc... etc... Basically it has to many things that keep it from being a public wide game, and as such it will not be GoTY nominee and it shouldn't be. I would like to clarify although I'm saying this I truly love the game, I have reinstalled the OS to windows 7, bought the game before the demo came out, bought a new graphic card just for it, and will probably end up spending around 1000€ for it (graphic card included, but excluded the trackIR/Freetrack), I have been playing the demo (still waiting for the copy) and loving every minute of it, even when I fall in the water with the parachute and get to the shore with absolutely no weapons. But seeing things in a objective manner I just simply cannot justify a GoTY nomination, I can however justify a nomination for something like "Boundary pushing game".

the store pixmania sells it a little cheaper but after you had the shipping fees you get pretty much the same price, 160£ is pretty much as low as you gonna get -

Well the motherboard is a pretty cheap model, the PSU seems to be very shitty, you need to pay more for the 4GB's something that by a today standard computer should be already included, especially because DDR2 is pretty cheap, the price seems to be OK for the parts, but my opinion you should mount your one PC or find another one. -

You noticed a huge increase in performance because vista sucks hard in what concerns performance, it has absolutely nothing to do with being 64 bits vs 32 bits, actually 64 bits is better than 32 bits since you have access to the 4GB of ram, also because things that use 64 bits are faster in 64bits, unfortunately arma like 99% of the games doesn't use 64bits. Basically 64bits is better than 32 bits, and XP is better for games than vista, and arguably windows 7 is better than XP for games, since windows 7 is faster than XP. If your going to buy a graphic card to play arma 2 go for the HD 4890 1GB it's better, also don't think that GTX 285 is really a good purchase right now, not only because you have the 275 and the 4890 that are pretty much the same thing at way better prices, but also because in the end of the year there are new graphic cards coming. But yeah a better GPU in there would help a lot. You can download the release candidate (kind of beta) at microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx it will last you until july 2010 and after that it will start shutting down from X to X amount of hours until august 2010 where the windows will stop working, basically you have about 1 year of free windows 7 RC. A new GPU should probably be enough.
