  1. The biggest problem I have encountered when doing low intensity warfare missions has actually been the players themselves. They tend to be up and ready at all times, resulting in a "Go-Mode" attitude that isn't always preferable when operating amongst civilians.

The best deterrent I have found is swift punishment for breaking ROE - make people think before they act, or suffer the consequences.

But by far the best solution to the problem is for the players to "get it". This requires a degree of "roleplaying" (much as I hate to say it) which isn't really suitable for the public arena, and much less for pvp scenarios.

    Three examples I have played:

    A) Road Patrol - worked fine for a while, but then the players started to figure out the most efficient routes to avoid being ambushed, which kinda broke the mission a little bit.

    B) IED Removal - Secure the area and send in the EDO team, then get bumped by anti-player forces. This one didn't really work well because every incoming vehicle was perceived as hostile and engaged (the afore mentioned Go-Mode).

    C) MOUT - placed on Porto, with every possible support weapon at the players disposal. Harsh ROE in place (variable cas cap for civvies and no damage to the mosque allowed), which had the effect of the players not wanting to use their support assets at all, for fear of collateral damage.

Thanks. Hmm the ROE is a tough one, especially since I plan to use actual civilians as insurgents. See this is good, I can get on the problem areas before I even start with the map.

  2. I think PvP is unpopular simply because it unbalanced. Not to mention the time it can take to test a new map for it balance. Considering developers can spend a whole year into mp map balance, I figure the interests of making new maps is simply reduced in this game because of the hardened dedicated involvement.

In what way is it unbalanced?

  3. the AI make a lot of stops and take more caution than a lot of players do they act like every inch of terrin is new where yu may have run through it a thousand times playing that mission and tend to run off straight to where you want to be.

  4. ArmA 2 sucks as an air sim this is why you don't find air sim heads. The map is too small for dedicated air maps (you cross the map before you get any real altitude) and the flight models are horrible. On public servers planes would be first come first serve and most private servers do not run missions that would require long term dedicated air support from fast movers (there would be hours flying circles waiting for a target).

  5. I'm getting a little frustrated with the whole lack of support with these multiplayer issues too and time is running out, imho, for this game. Operation Flashpoint will be out soon and if this game isn't fixed and gets better documentation by the time Modern Warfare 2 gets released, this game will be done.

Lack of proper server support and documentation in this day and age is just stupid. Tick tock.

If you have already bought the game they don't lose anything by you then switching to a different game.

  6. In the end I had to manually save the logo in the C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\ArmA 2\squads\YOURSQUAD folder and tick the Read-only box to get the logo to work.

    I guess it's another bug :j:

    P

I did this, and I also marked it read only before uploading it and it worked, thanks for posting that.

  7. I use the ACM in my mission, it works great, you wont see any armor or other units though that would be appropriate because although I made my independants friendly to OPFOR, the insurgents dont take it into account and if I use friendly troops they will also kill the mission targets at random fouling up the scenario, this possibly is what people are trying to avoid.

  8. Try exporting as a .tga then using TexView to convert to .paa. Also, you'll need this patch for PhotoShop to export .tga files properly. If you're still having problems try using GIMP, as far as I remember it's only ~50mb and is very similar to Photoshop, plus there is a guide for it on the Biki.

I have both. Texview might give me a working file if it didn't crash everytime I try to browse to get the tga file

  9. No anfiach you are wrong.

The empty folders you see are in this folder:

    ...\Documents and Settings\ your windows user name \My Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\ArmA 2 user name\Saved\mpmissions

Those folders and are for temporary in game data for those missions when your arr playing them.

As Spamurai said the mission .pbo files for any mission you have played are stored on your computer in your MPMissionsCache and you can copy them from there to your MPMissions folder if you want to host them.

    That is

    ...\Documents and Settings\ your windows user name \Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA 2\MPMissionsCache

Note the difference it is NOT YOUR My Documents folder MPMissionsCache is not in your My Documents folder. It is in your user name root folder!

They are kept separate so you do not clutter up your host able missions folder. It is called being organised. It is a standard function in windows and many other OS to keep Apps data separate. You will find all your other Apps data \Local Settings\Application Data folder if they are properly programmed that is where they are supposed to be.

    Kind regards walker

Is that in XP? I'm running Vista and having a difficult time finding that path, thanks for the clarification as well. Maybe I'm just tired and missing it.

I had to dig around for the correct path to show up but I finally got it Thanks.

  10. I guess that's just not my experience of things at all, the documentation is aplenty for me and I have no trouble finding the information I need. And I'm not even a member of that "devheaven" site where there is even more information.

Please feel free to let me know if you're having any specific problems - and I'd be happy to help. I just released my first ArmA2 mission and I found it much easier to do than my ArmA missions prior.

The offer is appreciated and I will take you up on it if I get stuck for too long.
