Hi all I am jusyt wondering before beging ARMA 2 all over again ( patch 1.3 has helped loads , as well as disablimng HT as I have an I 7 core ) When I played OFP back in the day I had it configures so when I moved I was in third person, and when i stopped it switched to first, is there a way to do this in arma 2 ?

better performance with mid range graphics cards
DarkBytes posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hi I have posted a few threads about performances of ARMA 2 with high end systems , and apart from the fanatics , I think this has been encountered by many people. I would like to add to this something that seems to highlight this issue. I have the following spec windows 7 ( 64bit ) 6gb ddr 3 Corsair ( 1600) Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ)@4ghz XFX Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB GDDR5 running 1680 x 1050 this is a fast system ( not the fasted I agree, but the items shit & shovle do spring to mind ) With respect to ARMA 2 , I get terrible performance , now if I swap out my graphics card from the radeon 4870X2 with 2GB GDDR5 ram to a geforce 8800GT with 512mb of ram , iget significantly better performance . The game still dosn't use the CPU cores properly but what it does do is max out the Graphics card , on the radeon , even with new drivers , crossfire kicking etc , it just dosnt use the GPU ir ram as much as it should , GPU's sit at around 25 to 30%. Something is definatly wrong here , and you know forget all the game breaking bugs and shit , that make this a really painful game to try and play , its fucking shite when it comes to utilising available respurces -
So ive spent more time tweaking than playing...

its also the irony of it all, Exactly the same thing happened with ARMA 1 . If its the way they work with respect to this game I wish they would at least be open about i game gets released , gets fixed 6 to 9 months later -

have to agree with OP , I have given up on this game , dropping in to forum 1 a week to see if there is any improvment / patch , and will look elsewhere for my gaming kicks -
ARMA2 not using avaialable resources on high end systems
DarkBytes replied to DarkBytes's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
erm righto then Prim95, pretty much the industry standard tool for test / stability so anyhow thats each core / thread being worked 100% , that is full utilisation Look happy to seek for answers an that , but please, aint bullshiting here , so afford me the same .. Cheers Bytes -

yup have the new catalysts , the results in the screenie are using those with repect to this being expected for CPU Ok so maybe i am missing something here then , your trying to tell me that you should not be able to get 100% CPU utilisation across all threaded cores ? well thats odd , because If I use some stress test tools thats pricisly what I do get , I cannot see how it can be said that the resorce i showed u being used is expected ? 1 is nearly always 100% there is another that isnt used at all, and the others range between 10 & 35 % how can that be optimisation for multiple cores ? -

resized , good call. But come on , "erm not really ?" If you read all the blurb from BI regarding ARMA II , it talks extensivly about how it will be multicore optimised . Look at the picture mate , that is not the behavour of proper multicore optimisation is it ? and with respect to the GPU , well that is not the behavior I see with many other games, it is simply not optimised or using available resource. Look I love this game , I remember playing OFP when it first came out and thinking it was the most fantastic thing out there, this post is to highlight issues not to rant , so I would prefer a constructive response , or at least one based on fact , not supposition. Cheers -

hi the following is a screenie of resource manager and rivatuner to show the utilisation of both CPU & GPU during ARMA II gameplay ( note dip at start and end where I alt tab out to see results ) Note how neither gpu dosnt go above 45% and only one of the CPU cores is worked to any great degree , ( note that there are 4 physical cores on I7 but mutlithreaded so shows as 8 in windows ) , this is bonkers ,I know there is lots of talk of ARMA II being a demanding game that can strain the best of systems , but its no wonder that the high end systems / GPU cards are perfoming badly if ARMA II is not actually utilising the resource available this was taking on the following spec ARMA 2 German version Clean install , latest patch english language mod running @1650x1050 everything on very high except AA which is on normal CPU Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping @ 4ghz GPU ATI 4870x2 ( with 2GB video memory ) 6ghz Corsair DDR3 ( 16000 ) MB Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme Intel X58 OS windows 7 64bit ( clean install GPU driver new 9.7 ( fixes cross fire one GPU problem ) ARMA 2 German version Clean install , latest patch english language mod Now say what you like , but something is definatly rotten in denmark , The game isnt even giving these high end systems a chance to perfom , anyway thought the screenie might be of interest and perhaps some stuff will get fixed -
Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

not really weird ? mate middle range cards perfoming better then high end ones , I would call it a little weird -

I know the feeling i7 @ 4ghz , very highend MB , 4870x2 (2gb version ) 6 gb of of corsair ddr3 (1600mhz ) windows 7 64 bit , The game runs like a f***ing dog. -

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ARMAII_gpu_performance/ if you check this review / GPU bench rest , you will see that dual cards do not work well . "Dual GPU cards like the GeForce GTX 295 and Radeon 4870 X2 don’t scale with ARMA II at this time" Interesting read , definatly highlights some performance / optimisation issues with the game. -
Hi all I have tried following suggestings on this and other forums change to cysis.exe -winxp mode turning AI up full but 2nd GPU will not work at all , I have tested my card by running The real Crysis game and that uses both GPu's 100% so all good. Arma2 refuses to do so no matter what I do rig Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 / XFX 3870 X2 / Dell 2209WA @1920 x1200 / Windows 7 Ultimate build 7100 Latest catalyst driver and control center 9.6 for windows 7 anyone got other suggestions to get this to work . Also where is the acuall official support & response , as i see very little here

English language mod for german version 1.02

much appreciated mate , Thanks -
yup nice one BI for gettin the patch out , appreciate the good work etc , but tell me , why is your distrosbution linked up to a bunch of third rate low bandwidth sites requiring sign up to their particuler brand of bullshit , or requires an individual to endure staring at ads of exploited young girls from middle eastern countries. Yer yer nice one , good game , but who gets the irony that surrounds this THINK ABOUT IT, I mean really think about it , Shaftoe !! Hah if that dosnt strike chord , lets take the freedom fighter star srovy ( might be wrong spelling ) " Wow You marines are great " fuck me this game isnt even targeted at US players Ahh man love the game , hate the way the european ( inc eastern ) people who work on it , have to be C*nted off and have had to kiss the corperate dick Harsh but true, this isnt prudish flame on. This aint your reguler troll, but will no doubt be victim to simuler slaps
