i had the same problem when using ace and trying to take off you, should try to do the helicopter training in vanilla ArmA and then it should work just fine

ok seeing that thanks to the release of Arma2 the Arma1 community is a bit drying out and because i think that mission making is underrated in comparison to addon making, im gonna post an idea i have which may make it more easier for people to take the step to make and release their missions and maybe keep a little action in the Arma1 community. so my plan is that one person makes a user mission(one that other people can open in their editor) and in that mission the battlefront is outlined, so you take an area where you want the fighting to take place, and using markers you outline the frontline, units, bases,supply lines....etc.(dont't place the units on the map just some markers saying what units are in the area and in what position they are,if you have to you may put some objects on the map for bases..etc) you should also make a briefing telling people what the situation is in the map and everything other people might need to know. when that is finished you just upload it somewhere and then other people can start making their mission around the framework that is being provided and if they finish them they can then upload their missions and maybe adapt the framework so that the changes from their mission are incorperated into the framework and then the cycle starts over again. now as for a few tips: try to make simple missions not fancy shiny missions that take months to develop and test, intro and outro are not required although having a good briefing is quite helpfull, when making a framework try to have a bit common sense when placing units because i dont think its viable to put an entire armored division on the map (for example a platoon is more then enough to capture a town), also try to limit the amount of addons because it can scare off people wanting to play the mission(the default Arma models are quite good) , and as a last word this is not something where you need to be a member off just make and play missions and have fun while doing it.

no what im trying to say is: somebody makes a mission (the framework), in this mission the situation is outlined: for example you got an sla company and an racs company, so you use markers to mark where the frontline is located, then (lets say each company has 3 platoons) you put markers where the platoons should be located, and to finish it you make a briefing in which you say anything you might think everyone else should know about the situation (for example one side is tired, one side is running out of supplies..etc) then you post the framework in here (or somewhere else if you like) in such a way that other people can open the framework in the editor. then for example somebody else downloads the framework and thinks it might be nice to let one platoon of racs attack the sla platoon in front of him, so he places one platoon of racs on the map with waypoints,triggers..etc to attack the sla platoon's position and you put the necessary waypoints,triggers..etc so that the sla will defend itself, then after that person finished the mission he posts it back here so that people can play it and possibly adapts the framework(change the position of the markers so that you can see what happened in the mission) and also posts the framework here so that people can make a new mission around it. also you dont have to follow these guidelines if people will post frameworks here you can just use them any way you want to make your missions . hope that made things clear for you

well i didnt really play alot on tatawin but i did get an occasional crash once in a while, but i couldn't find out why it happened

you can try avgani by opteryx wich is an excellent city modelled on a real life city in iraq. you can also try tatawin wich has some pretty large cities although i think they are formed a bit unrealistic.

have you tried putting a "load" waypoint for the chopper and a "get in" waypoint for the group and then synchronising the two waypoints. normally the chopper should then hover over the extraction zone and when you arrive there it should land.

ah i thought you meant that there was nobody in the chopper and it was just standing in some place waiting for you to get in, ah well im glad its solved

so if i understand it correct you command a squad who needs to save a victim(who is ai), and there is an empty chopper standing somewhere, and with that chopper you need to get out of the area together with the hostage. well if i have this correct i would say you can just give a command to the hostage to mount the chopper and you wont need to do it in the editor.

maybe you can just add the victim to your group once you rescued him and then just order him in the chopper

i just downloaded the new gun from armaholic ( you might also want to put the download link in this forum ). as far as the rifle goes, i just tried it and it looks good although i am a little disapointed to see that the acog scope has the same level of magnification as the scope on the original m24 instead of the acog scope that is on the m16 wich has less zoom

recently i returned to playing this mod and i just wanted to ask if you guys managed to get a patch for ati-users (i explained the problem already in this thread),although it is now not that big of a problem anymore as i am using the vanilla ArmA weapons and some unit addons. now i also wanted to ask if there are changes in the ai capabilities if i use other units ( except for the fact that they use other weapons, with different properties offcourse ), i have made a few missions for myself and the firefights seem quite normal although i remember that during your patrol missions the ai gave me more problems. -
i like the promise of this project and i hope it will get carried on till it is completed. now i think i might have a possible setting for this mission to take place in, i got the idea for this setting when i read about the siege of sarajevo, this was a 4 year siege of the capital of bosnia by the "yugoslav people's army" and later the serb "army of the republica sprska". now to tell the story in a nutshell the serb's couldn't/didn't want to capture the city so they occupied the hills around the city and besieged it for four years. during this siege the city was shelled and fired upon by snipers of all sides now what makes it interesting is that there were on all sides multiple paramilitary, criminal and military organisations fighting with/against each other all while the people in the city tried to go on with their daily lives. now i dont say that you need to make a mod/mission about the siege but you could make something that resembles the situation (city under siege, sniper and artillery attacks on a regular basis or even conducted by you, civilians struggeling to go on with their lives, several groups on all sides from wich you can accept missions, can buy things from, groups like criminals, militias, army, police, peacekeepers, journalists.....)

well for cities with alot of enterable buildings you should take a look at corazol(the city on the border between north and south sahrani) and generally in the north as there are more enterable buildings in the north then in the south. for mods i would say avgani and afgan village (although not a city you could say its build-up terrain) both of them have a decent amount of enterable buildings and are also excellent maps, further you also have tatawin wich has some huge cities and it uses the default BIS buildings, although i think that certain cities and towns are formed unnaturaly but nevertheless its an excellent map. currently im am also trying to turn antigau (island north of sahrani with airfield on it) into a dense city using 3DE, and as for now im only using buildings that can be entered but at the rate im am working right now it might take several weeks until im finished, also i only planned to use it myself and i dont think ai will work properly in it as im using alot of fences, walls and buildings wich are put close against eachother. -
this will probably be in the wrong forum but i have the idea that somebody here might be able to help me. i had the idea to build myself a small map so i installed 3de (version 1.1), now i have put the PBO and bisign files in my addon folder (there is no other mod in it so its impossible to have bugs with other mods) then i copied the ArmAExt folder in my main ArmA directory, now the problem is when i try to let the run-file run ( i have edited it so it says that thing at the back you use with the modfolder method ) i get a command screen with the line for opening ArmA but after a second it vanishes and nothing happens now from the manual from 3de i understood that after that ArmA should start. when i try to open the modfolder with the 3de PBO and bisign in it with the modfolder method and try to use 3de it says that ArmAExt file cannot be found i really hope somebody can help me with the problem

ah in the thread it says that its avg (wich i have as antivir) is the cause for this problem, thank you for bringing that to my attention although i feel rather stupid for not reading all the pages in the thread.

after some thinking i have decided that i am going to make my map using a combination of real time editor and editorupdates, although i would have liked it more if i could make it with a program designed to do the job rte is a decent replacement and for personal use it will do the job.

i changed the run.bat so it says run "..\arma.exe" -nosplash -world=sara -mod=@MyAddons and the run.exe file is present although i cant open it because it says that i dont have permission for it, now when i was browsing through the properties of run.exe another file created, also with the name run.exe and it says it is a connection( "snelkoppeling" in dutch and i cant find the right word for it in english) to an ms-dos program but when i open it it shows an empty command screen and also nothing happens, i also tried to put the above line in the command line using the properties but that doesnt have any influence. and when i try to make this thing work i always turn off my antivirus because it keeps giving warnings.

i have put 3DE files in an distinct modfolder, not the original ArmA addons folder. there are 6( cache,files,ArmAext,ArmAext.dll,run (ms-dos batchfile),run) files in my ArmAext folder and my actual version is 1.14

as far as i know things like IED's and mortars are not implemented yet (and i wont put your hopes on it they will complete these things for ArmA as they have moved on to ArmA 2) and they are only put in the game as placeholders or something. hope that helped

as for the ati card problems if it would be too much work to locate and solve the problem with all objects i would be more than happy if you would only solve the problems with the weapons as this is the main problem im facing, the other objects can easily wait for a while as im more interested in the jungles than in the towns and bases. -

i already reported my problem a few days ago and you guys said you would look into it. but since then i have done some tests and the crashes are in every village and base i have been inside but i havent been able to go to them all so it is possible there are villages out there wich i can go in.i did test all the vc buildings(the eastern one with the shelters and towers) also i have tested the ammo crates and they seem to work the problem is the weapons( you can exclude the m1911 because that one i can acces with the pilots) i cant acces my gear or any weapon crates because when i do i get a crash. i would like to test all of the objects and see wich ones are causing the problems but atm i have exams so i dont really have much time for this. so i hope you guys can make the addon playable for me too. -

not to put pressure on you guys but how far are you with making the game compitable with ati video cards, because im getting a bit frustated with having to kill my own men when they are stuck because i cant acces their gear and remove their pistols and having a crash everytime i enter a village or a base. anyways great mod, i just got ambushed with the vc right next to me with neither me, my ai and my pointman noticing where they were until it was too late.
