any word on a new patch to fix the i7/windows 7 problem?
electron-libre replied to chronicbucks's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Here is the fix for your issue : Disable Hyperthreading in bios This worked for me, and it should for you. (i7920 + 6 Gb pc 12800 + 4890HD + 10000rpm HDD) -
Huge performance gap between WinXP and Windows 7
electron-libre replied to colej_uk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I've noticed the opposite. Upgrading to Win7 64 gave me an extra fps boost. By the way it may be related to your version of video driver, or your directX9 version or disk fragmentation. Probably your motherboard chipset driver too. -
ArmaHolic ArmA 2 Optimization

Please people stop asserting things you do not know anything about. Expecially when you talk about game engine, since you do not know anything about game developpement. Do you think that the game engine is a one piece software library ? The you are wrong. This is many part things, as shadowing engine, motion engine, face animation engine, vegetation rendering ... Open your eyes many of those parts have changed since Ofp and Arma. Did you know that BIS owne one of the most advanced vegetation generating engine ? (wich is part of Arma 2) So stop trying to appear more clever that you are. Humility is wellcome -
Bad performance in campaign after patching
electron-libre replied to dvolk's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Once again, Performances in Chernogorsk and Electro...thing, are really different from the anywhere else in the game. This is not GPU related, if you try to lower your graphics settings it wont really improve performances in those towns. -
Chernogorsk and the other larger towns and FPS drop down
electron-libre posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
We all know that The big cities in Arma 2 are dropping our framerate down to something between 15 - 25 fps whatever your details settings. I'd like an answer about that from BI developpers, is that a feature (due to the number of polygones to render ), or is that an issue ( and we can expect a better situation in a further patch ) ? Has anyone find a way to force shadow rendering while FSAA activated ? (I'd like to see what kind of artifact it can occure) -

For ATI owner you should try to disable AI in the Control center, this seem to give better performances when disable (but this feature is intended to increse performances) -
This video should figure on the page of the Arma2 official website, and the video marker rewarded. (But i do not think you are allowed as the soundtrack is under licence) This is a really nice promotion video

Before waiting all day as we are all doing, will the patch be out today or not?
electron-libre replied to p75's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It seem that there is nothing about performances concern, and anti-aliasing. Anyway thanks you BIS for doing your best -

One thing to check before : Get the latest ATI catalyst. Get the latest directX version for your system -

graphics bugs with ATI 4800 series (4850/4870/4890)
electron-libre replied to fjaekel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had this issue. I own a HD4890 1G. When I was setting the value from very high to default, the artefacts appeared. (In ARMA and ARMA2) So I downgraded to Very High again. But I managed to fix it. I installed catalyst 9.6 I 've restarted the game after setting the VM to default. I dont know wich of these two action is the one that did the trick. But you should try. First install latest ATI dirvers. Second restart the game AFTER setting the VM to default. -
Arma 2 the last game to use this engine?
electron-libre replied to sakura_chan's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It is always fun to see people speculating over thing they dont know at all. Most the time when someone start a thread about Arma Engine, he does not know anything about game engine, world engine, rendering engine, or software developpement. Basically they are using engine like a unique magic word (I cant remember the Marry Poppins word) to designate something, maybe they should use "It" or "Thing" this could be less ridiculous. More funny , those persons seem to think that they can assert and give advices to the engeneer of these thing they do know understand (even cant just guess what it is). Happy BI Developpers, I guess you may sometime lought (or be affraid) wile reading those forum. -
pci-express 1.1/1.0 and arma2
electron-libre replied to POTS's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
It should not be, mainly because , not only the high-end card owner are impacted. The bandwidth of pciE bus is not bottleneck as high-end singleGPU graphic-card's PCB has lower bandwith. The game does not really scale from graphic cards for now. It scale for CPU. You do not get big differences with low setting compared to high settings. But try with a more powerfull CPU and you'll see a real improvement. It remember me when i was beta testing some of thouse famous games released one year ago. The game where really more heavy on CPU and mostly really slow, because of the debug instructions. This debug instructions really slowdown the application, they are intended to be executed during betatest to give more accurate reports than the feeling of testers. Once the game is released the instructions are turn of, but for the release of one game, (I am not allowed to say witch one ), the debug instructions were not removed for release in order to get larger hardware and systems test, later (3 or 4 weeks) dev's disable those instruction through a patch and everyone said hura ... I am not saying that it is what is running wrong with arma2, i'am just saying that this remind me something.
