  1. I had the EXACT same issue. Windows 8 Consumer Preview, game won't launch. From what I can tell, it's the Deep Silver DRM not working - thus the game fails to launch. Compatibility modes don't help at all, unfortunately. I had to boot into Windows 7 to launch and play the game.
  2. An update: I finally finished downloading from the US mirror again - this time, the installer worked without a hitch. It seems that the files have been repaired. If you're still facing issues installing the game and getting bad checksum errors; try redownloading. It takes a while, especially since the servers are being hammered - but at least you'll be able to play.
  3. I am having the EXACT same problem. Running setup as admin, I've restarted it twice - no dice. CRC errors at random during install. I've also redownloaded the installer three times now; each time taking longer than the last. I'm an inch away from just asking for a refund. At the very least, I've learned my lesson about purchasing things from the BI store - I'll just buy the games from Steam in the future.
  4. Bah - I was downloading using the US mirror all morning - and as it turns out, the files I downloaded are corrupted right off the bat. Oh well, everyone else seems to be having better luck with the EU mirrors so I'll just suck it up and deal with the slow download speeds.
  5. I just had this issue, actually. A few things you can do. First off, make SURE Windows 7 is properly set up for your speakers. This means going into the audio control panel, clicking configure and selecting your speaker setup. Another thing, are you using either the Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect systems, usually for a home theater system? If so, try switching between these two. I made a thread about this ages ago, you can find it easily by searching "X-FI" or "DTS".
  6. Just a bit of a heads up, but the site has launched! It can be found by easy access at http://www.arma-creations.com!
  7. Thanks kjo and Sickboy, it looks like we can do a lot of good together. :) This is going up over various places, figured I'd post it here as well. I am coming forward representing Half-Life Creations, a community website that for the Half-Life community, hosts projects, portfolios and community related content. We offer 100% free, no ad hosting to those who require it and we are looking at expanding our gaming horizons with a pilot website, ArmA-Creations (ARC). We are currently talking to many community members, player and developers to see if this is a venture that has promise. We are looking to provide the same great services that you can get from HLC, but under the ARC flagship. We are also looking into starting a weekly podcast, where anything ArmA related can be discussed from mission packs, to interviews with developers. What can we offer in terms of a hosting solution? * Post big news on the front page of ArmA Creations. * No ads . * All the space you need. * FTP access to upload your website. * Tech support upon request. * We support PHP 4/5 Full Unix Shell, CGI, Ruby on Rails, Canned CGI Scripts and MYSQL databases, you name it you can use it! * Have your own sub-domain! * Want your own email account with us? We can provide them for the head of the website. (We can now provide as many as you need!) * NEW Streaming video! Available in QuickTime or AVI formats. * NEW One Click installs for scripts like: WordPress, OpenX, Moodle, MediaWiki, Advanced Poll, phpbb and much more. Also, in working in collaboration with Dev-Heaven we aim to create a strong, organized backbone for your project management! This is one post of many where we are feeling for the need/want of the community to see if ArmA is the next game that the HLC brand of websites caters to and supports. Please check out the sample website below and let us know if there is indeed an interest or any questions or comments you may have. Not to mention that while the website may be coming soon we are currently accepting hosting applicatons. If you have any questions or you wish to get onboard, please feel free to send me an E-Mail at ackart@ragnarokarena.com Thanks for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you! You can find Half-Life Creations at http://www.half-lifecreations.com Our other Podcast, Podcast 17 can be found at http://www.podcast17.com/
  8. Update! The site is up now and we are accepting applications! http://www.arma-creations.com! Hello all, I've been looking around the ArmA community, and I've seen that while there are quite a few sites that provide downloads for missions and general news posts, the only site I've found so far that openly advertises project hosting is ArmAHolic. We currently offer something similar to the Half-Life community with piles of bandwith and more disk space than what we know to do with. What I proposed to him was a similar site for the Armed Assault series, that would provide hosting for addon/modification projects, squad pages and the miscellaneous things that grow in a game community; and we could offer unlimited hosting for these sites for free. So, basically, it's my job to see if there's any interest in this sort of site. Download hosting for mods/tools/missions and what have you is obvious, but that wouldn't be the main focus. The features we would provide: No bandwith throttling and no disk space limitations Unlimited E-Mail Accounts and MySQL Databases Subversion (SVN) databases A subdomian (IE: myawesomeproject.armacreations.com) The second item, a weekly community Podcast. Something else my friend works on is something called Podcast 17, which provides a weekly review of all the activity in the Half-Life community from releases to interviews and shoutouts. I thought something similar for the ArmA community would be a nice venture, but once again, we'd like to gauge interest before going any further. I would love to hear any comments about this, and if you're interested in hosting right now please feel free to give me a shout. Thanks!

    Evolution

    And to think I was just about to come here and post this! But yeah, this looks like it should work. edit: Trip report! It's the barebones of evolution. The system seems to be in place, however only one town is under enemy control (That I can tell) and I can't seem to find a place to get side missions. Still, it helps scratch the evolution if you really want to play it. Edit of an edit: Scratch the only one town part. It appears you have to capture towns in order - enemy control will shift accordinly.
  11. I honestly just guessed, but people have been able to see and join my server without issue. Perhaps ArmA2 completely ignores that line?
  12. Here's an example of the server.cfg I'm using. Note the Master Server change. Works great though. // // server.cfg // // comments are written with "//" in front of them. // GLOBAL SETTINGS hostname="Half-LifeCreations ArmA 2 Austin TX"; // The name of the server that shall be displayed in the public server list password=""; // Password for joining, eg connecting to the server passwordAdmin=":p"; // Password to become server admin. When you're in Arma MP and connected to the server, type '#login xyz' reportingIP="arma2.master.gamespy.com"; // This is the default setting. If you change this, your server might not turn up in the public list. Leave empty for private servers logFile="server_console.log"; // Tells ArmA-server where the logfile should go and what it should be called // WELCOME MESSAGE ("message of the day") // It can be several lines, separated by comma // Empty messages "" will not be displayed at all but are only for increasing the interval motd[]={ "", "", "", "Welcome to the Half-Life Creations ArmA 2 Server", "", "Enjoying the game? Visit us!", "http://www.half-lifecreations.com/", "" }; motdInterval=5; // Time interval (in seconds) between each message // JOINING RULES checkfiles[]={ // Checks if these files are equal to the servers files. If one or more is not, player will be kicked from server "HWTL\dta\data3d.pbo", "dta\data3d.pbo" }; maxPlayers=12; // Maximum amount of players. Civilians and watchers, beholder, bystanders and so on also count as player. kickDuplicate=1; // Each ArmA version has its own ID. If kickDuplicate is set to 1, a player will be kicked when he joins a server where another player with the same ID is playing. verifySignatures=0; // Verifies the players files by checking them with the .bisign signatures. Works properly from 1.08 on equalModRequired=0; // If set to 1, player has to use exactly the same -mod= startup parameter as the server. // VOTING voteMissionPlayers=1; // Tells the server how many people must connect so that it displays the mission selection screen. voteThreshold=0.33; // 33% or more players need to vote for something, for example an admin or a new map, to become effective // INGAME SETTINGS disableVoN=1; // If set to 1, Voice over Net will not be available vonCodecQuality=0; // Quality from 1 to 10 persistent=1; // If 1, missions still run on even after the last player disconnected. // SCRIPTING ISSUES onUserConnected=""; // self-explaining onUserDisconnected=""; doubleIdDetected=""; regularCheck=""; // some ArmA specific stuff - signature verification onUnsignedData = "kick (_this select 0)"; // unsigned data detected onHackedData = "ban (_this select 0)"; // tampering of the signature detected //onDifferentData=""; // data with a valid signature, but different version than the one present on server detected //BattlEye=1; //Server to use BattlEye system // MISSIONS CYCLE (see below) class Missions { };
  13. Creative has released Windows 7 specific drivers, at least for the XFI cards. Also, I do have to use DDL (Or DTSC) because I have my PC hooked up to my stereo receiver via an optical cable. DDL is actively encoding the five channel sound into something my receiver actually knows what to do with.
  14. Greetings, So, I seem to have been lucky and escape most issues with actually getting ArmA 2 and installing it. Game plays wonderfully with no real graphical issues. However there is one major problem and that is any sound that is not gunfire has the distinct tones of a monkey destroying a turntable. It's an unpleasant screeching, distorted sound that is, frankly, terrible. Sounds return to normal after disabling Dolby Digital Live, however this also prevents me from using Surround Sound with ArmA 2. My system specifications are: Windows 7 x64 RC1 Creative SB XFI Titanium Intel Core2Quad Q8200@2.33GHZ 4GB Memory GeForce 9800GT Any pointers would be appreciated. Edit! I've found a workaround for people that encounter the same issue. If your receiver will support it, change your encoder from Dolby Digital Live to DTS Connect. This cleared up my audio corruption and brought back surround sound.
  15. That's odd, the downloader worked perfectly for me on my x64 Windows 7RC machine.
