  1. Ground Branch will have a bit of both, but not as sandbox as Arma! More a combination of Rainbow Six CQB and original Ghost Recon outdoor maps and everything in between. Based on this: Source: http://groundbranch.com/questions-and-answers/
  2. True. This potential negative aura might be a problem with Ground Branch. Even though that would not be entirely fair, because this project has never been "delayed" in the traditional sense. It simply was announced very early on when pre-production/development just barely started (more or less), so we were able to witness the birth so to speak, and all the ups and downs that came along the road. But we are used to first hear about a new title when they are at least quite far in development already (alpha state or maybe near beta). Well, BFS had their ups and downs, tried to get funding from publishers (this was the goal in the beginning), tried a second smaller project called Sky Gods which had to be cancelled, and they tried probably a lot more stuff behind the scenes. But it's like, people expect that since the announcement in 2007, the studio has been working full time on this title with several people. There might have been times that this was the case, but I think there have been long periods where the project was on a low burner (is that correct english?), because in the end of the day you have to make a living and provide for your family. And if you don't have funding and you've spend your savings, and you're working on a product that does not make revenue yet, you don't really have the luxury to work full time with a development team, no matter how much you want it.
  3. @Sniperwolf Maybe this old post by John Sonedecker from 2008 sheds more light onto the NORG subject:
  4. Let's just celebrate that there is a new tactical shooter on the horizon, and hopefully BlackFoot Studios will get a successful Kickstarter campaign. This game has so much in store, it's just a matter of funding really. If you look at the features and the Q&A section, it's like a dream come true. And those are no just some empty promises as we've seen from the bigger companies, who just use slick PR talk to get people hyped for a mediocre product. John's vision, integrity and core principles that he has shown in the past few years is something you don't see everyday in the gaming industry. So shut up and take my money Pre-alpha material. Normally, for most other retail games, you would never see this unpolished footage :) You would see moving images way down the line. But stuff like this can be a double-edged sword, because in general people do not always keep this in mind.
  5. They worked on a lot of other projects as contractor. The studio was formed years before Ground Branch went into development. So it's not like they'v been developing Ground Branch for eight years. And keep in mind that the project was announced at a stage where normal games you see in stores wouldn't be known to the public for at least 2 years while a solid team is working on getting it from pre-alpha to beta/retail. Basic rough info, maybe not 100% accurate and might have errors: development started in 2007 to build alpha for publishers/investors. No publishers/investors were interested because it wasn't "the new Call of Duty" (too much niche), this took a while. After about I don't know, 1,5/2 years it turned out that investors weren't ready. Focus shifted to development of alternate smaller project to fund Ground Branch. This new project was Sky Gods and was, more or less, both a game and a potential simulation tool for some army training division (or something like that). Eventually this didn't work out for whatever reason. There have been lots of ups and downs, and as far as I know it was just a problem with budget. John eventually did "full time" contract work to support family/create income (I believe) and slowly kept developing Ground Branch alpha himself (no big team because there was no money). So yeah, it has been a long road with lots of setbacks and all, but they kept going. If there is one thing you can learn from that is that it shows their dedication and true passion for this project. And now finally, with a Kickstarter campaign, this dream can come true. I mean, John has worked on games like Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, original Ghost Recon and all expansions + a lot more games. If there is someone who can do this, it is him. It's all about funding, that's all.
  6. Video: Configuring your ACRE radios In this video we explain how you can configure the commonly used ACRE radios, for example switching radio's, switching channels, changing power, changing volume etc. The PRC-343, PRC-119 and PRC-117F are addressed (in order of appearance). The video is spoken in Dutch.
  7. Videos: Operation Risgo A mission made by TDNL member Laurens from the Tangodown Missionmakers team. Situation: The U.S. military is almost completely gone from Zargabad. Most of it's personnel has been moved to another region. Intelligence, however, has received signs about a possible attack in Zargabad. A group of soldiers is tasked to go undercover into Zargabad to monitor the situation. Assignment: Go to the market in Zargabad and look for suspicious behavior. The complete briefing can be read here. The debriefing is located here. Briefing Part 1/3 recorded at Group 1.2 Part 2/3 recorded at Group 1.2 Part 3/3 recorded at Group 1.2 Whole mission recorded at Group 1.1
  8. I've had the same issue with Fraps lately, especially when recording many minutes in one file. As far as I know it's an Fraps issue and can be fixed this way (I haven't tested it yet though):
  9. Instruction Video: OPORDERS based on the Standard Nato Agreement (stanag) This instruction video explains how you can inform your troops about the upcoming mission. It's based on the Standard Nato Agreement procedure and covers areas like map orientation, situation in the AO, the assignment, the execution, logistics, chain of command and radio nets. * Note: not every mission we play is based on this kind of realism. There are all types of play styles possible within Tangodown, both casual as well as more tactical/military simulation.
  10. I have a very simple solution/suggestion for the search issue. Why not add a link "advanced search" in the user nav template menu(?) which directly links to http://forums.bistudio.com/search.php?search_type=1 Best would probably be if the advanced search text is right of the search icon, otherwise people might think they are performing an advanced search when using the text field. Anyway, see the screenshot for a general example:

    Developer's Blog

Great read! Awesome that you guys are going the "community preview/test" route just like with TKOH. I can't wait to hear more about the multiplayer (hopefully addon download management) and the improvements and accessibility to the GUI. It's also good to hear that things like volumetric clouds are also used in A3 (and of course the more advanced flight dynamics from TKOH IIRC?). Great read, great screenshots :)
  12. Ah, I see. The darker tab in the search page is not the tab you have selected, but it's the tab you don't have selected! I thought that on search.php you were on the single content type page, but you're actually at the search page for multiple content types. That explains a bit more. Strange decision of vB...
  13. First positive: I like the new forum. Nice skin and good that the website menu is integrated (or was that already the case)? Now the bad thing about the advanced search function, which I think is a major problem (sorry if this has been reported, no time to read all the pages): At first I didn't know how to get to the advanced search page. I checked all the menu items but I haven't found an advanced search button in the menu (maybe I missed it?). The only way, as far as I can see and without manually entering the address to the search page, is if you first use the search form in the right top corner. On the search results page you can click on the "Search" link in the navigation part which shows "HOME | Search -> Search Results". This will lead you to the advanced search webpage. But if you go to that page, which is located at http://forums.bistudio.com/search.php you cannot select the specific forums you want to search in. However, if you click the tab "search multiple content types" and then click the tab "search single content type" again you DO have the option, because the url changed into: http://forums.bistudio.com/search.php?search_type=1 (simply check the difference between the two url's I posted and you see what I mean). It took me at least a day to find out how you could search specific forums because it's not standard available in the advanced search option. Very very frustrating since I use a lot of search queries on forums and I am used to narrow the search results by completely tweaking the search settings. Plus, it's a bit hypocritical to say to other members to use the search function when there is such a flaw in the system. EDIT: I see in some quotes above that something like this was already mentioned. Ah well, consider this another user who had a very confusing experience with the search function. The PROBLEM is that the standard search page search.php doesn't have the specific forums in the advanced options part. I can only conclude that this is a bug, because as Dwarden mentions this option should be there when you "Search Single Content Type", which is not the case. It's only there when the url has search.php?search_type=1 which only happens when you first change to multiple content and back to single content again.
  14. Well, originally we had 4 satchel charges with us, one for the ZSU and the rest for the, as it turned out, three BRDMs. Since we lost 2 satchels at spawn due to a bug we decided that the BRDMs were all blown up with the last satchel. Although they weren't all blown up of course. Usually, when bugs or other things prevent certain objectives to be accomplished, we just move on and cross it off the list. Or was it not possible to blow them all up if we had the 3 satchels left? :) I'll be recording Cocaine Blues next monday. But I'll be HQ and stay in the air, so maybe that video won't be very interesting if you don't understand the radio chatter :P Might get someone on the ground to record the mission as well.
  15. Video: Operation Peren's Waltz Great mission by nkenny: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?130158-8(co)-Operation-CARTWHEEL-TANGO&p=2094987&viewfull=1#post2094987 1. Destroy a AAA battery. 2. Sabotage two BRDM-2 Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles. 3. Check the eastern warehouse.
  16. Here's the video of Peren's Waltz if anyone is interested :) Good fun!
  17. Will post the Peren's Waltz video tomorrow or in a few days :) We had a few problems with the weapon loadouts though. The gear selection menu is a bit bugged so people who take satchels or other stuff end up without them when the mission starts. Same for ammo, I suddenly had only 2 ammo instead of 8 magazines. And we lost 2 satchels due to this bug. I remember more missions having problems like this when you had to selected the gear in the briefing screen. We had a very good night though Great atmosphere, good amount of enemies. Perfect :) Next week Cocaine Blues!
  18. Hi Nkenny, really enjoyed your Cartwheel mission last monday. Everybody was very enthusiastic. If you're interested, we made a 15 minute video (although we speak in dutch during the game): http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?94443-Tangodown-nl-Tactical-community-regular-ArmA-2-sessions&p=2109430&viewfull=1#post2109430 Really liked it! Tomorrow we will be playing Peren's Waltz and next week probably Cocaine Blues. Cheers!
  19. Video: Operation Cartwheel Great mission by nkenny: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?130158-8%28co%29-Operation-CARTWHEEL-TANGO 1. Destroy a cache of MANPADS. 2. 20. Yes, I tried that too. Someone else had also some suggestions like turning of UAC and running it as administrator. Still the same. Maybe I just have to re-install Arma? I don't know. It's very odd... ---------- Post added at 10:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ---------- Problem seems to be fixed, at least I'm installing PMC now and I think BAF will work too. I browsed to my Windows temp folder and there the installers are extracted. If I run the setup.exe located at the extracted location the setup initializes correctly :)
  21. I thought about installing BAF the other day. But when it's done extracting I get the error: "Error during execution "setup.exe" The system cannot find the file specified". I re-downloaded BAF just to be sure, but the same thing happens. I have A2 + OA + PMC and patch 1.60 and no technical problems with the installation so far. Any thoughts?
  22. Is it normal that the PRC-343 starts distorting a lot when there is only 200 meters or more between the two people on a runway with no buildings or other objects between them? We tested it yesterday and it was impossible to hear the other starting from 200 meters and up. I always thought, in ideal conditions (rural, no objects, mountains) you would get about 400 ~ 500 meters range.
  23. Hmm, just tried it, doesn't work either. I tried renaming the install from BAFsetup.exe to setup.exe and tried installing with compatibility mode etc. Doesn't work :(
  24. Turns out I have the same error when trying to install the PMC DLC.
  25. Yeah, from sprocket, as a separate DLC package. I've had everything installed before, and it worked correctly. Few months ago reinstalled windows, but forgot to install BAF when installing all my arma 2 stuff. Realized it today and tried to install the BAF dlc.
