Will the alpha be available in all countries?
Incognito84 replied to Incognito84's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Okay, that makes sense. There are quite a number of games I can't buy on Steam because they've been blocked in the region. I think it's more related to Korea's gaming ecosystem than it is to censorship. Games like Planetside 2, Blacklight: Retribution, all the Battlefield games etc. don't show up on Steam/aren't available here is because they worked out a deal with a Korean publisher to distribute a different version of the game designed to be played on local services/in cyber cafes and so on. They basically "Korean-ize" the games before releasing them (I can't access 80% of F2P games on Steam for this reason). As far as Alpha and Betas go, I think the reason has to do with the developer not seeing any reason to release them in non-English speaking countries where they won't get any feedback. I've seen that happen quite a few times and missed out on a few betas because of it. Anyway, it sounds like they're not blocking it anywhere. If BI was a AAA developer based in the US, then I'd have more of a reason to be worried! -

The thing is that there is no store page for it at all. It's not in the coming soon section either. Usually games that aren't out yet still at least have a store page. -

The reason I ask is because about 20% of F2P, alpha/beta games or demos aren't available in here in Korea. Steam seems to have a huge amount of games that for some unknown reason say "unavailable in your region". This includes a lot of popular games, and a few games that were available in beta before their normal release. Will the alpha be available here in South Korea? Thanks. -
Decreased performance with new GPU (Radeon 7870)
Incognito84 replied to Incognito84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'll check it out. My case is a bit cramped so overheating might become a problem in spite of the 4+ fans that I'm running. I'm going to make this card work for the money :P -

I installed 1.62 a long while back but I think it must have been a beta patch or something. I installed it again... should be better now! -
Decreased performance with new GPU (Radeon 7870)

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I was going to follow what Glennyboy said but then I tweaked around with it a bit and got it to a point where there is minimum performance hit with maximum graphical settings. Deleting the config file as [FRL]Myke suggested helped a lot too. After I did that, the random slow downs and major fps drops stopped happening. It's not as high as I expected it would be (I thought I'd be able to max out everything) but it looks good and runs very smoothly with these settings: I played a few games on Lingor with Vsync on and it ran smoothly so I'm going to leave it on. Post processing kills my GPU but luckily it runs fine on 'Low' and I hate how it looks on Normal - High anyway. Cheers. -
Decreased performance with new GPU (Radeon 7870)

Hey guys. I've been having some problems with my new configuration. Here are my specs: OLD: i5-2500k Sandybridge Asrock P67 Pro 3 mainboard 4x2GB (8GB) Gskill 12800 RipJaws DDR3 Nvidia GTX 460 1GB Zotac CURRENT: i5-2500k Sandybridge Asrock P67 Pro 3 mainboard 4x2GB (8GB) Gskill 12800 RipJaws DDR3 Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB The game actually ran fine with the old rig. When I put the Radeon 7870 in, there was a performance drop. In the beginning, I cranked everything up to maximum including the Post Process Effects that made my old card struggle. The performance was still pretty sluggish so I dropped everything down. It runs alright but there are some stutters and weird slow downs at times. The problem is that now the graphics settings are at lower values than they were with the old GTX 460 and the game isn't running as well as it used to. I am sure that I have the most current drivers and no conflicts with my systems (other games like Battlefield 3 are running MUCH better). I was just wondering if anyone had the same problems and what I could do to fix it. Should I reformat my drive? I really don't want to because I'm lazy/busy but I will look into it if it's the only choice I have. Thanks. -
I just put in my Radeon 7870 today (inside a new case with a new Corsair 600W PSU). It's a major improvement over the GTX 460 I had in there! I have a feeling that Arma 3 is going to run really smooth on it, especially if I overclock both the 7870 and my i5 2500k. The crazy thing about the Radeon is that it uses very little power, even when overclocked apparently. I don't think I have to upgrade again for two years.

Hey guys, I upgraded. Last time I was told that I barely had enough to run the game so hopefully I'm doing a bit better now since I swapped the GTX 460 with the Radeon: i5-2500k Sandybridge (not OC'ed yet) Asrock P67 Pro 3 mainboard 8GB Gskill 12800 RipJaws DDR3 Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB My friend is insisting that the 7870 is not really much of a step up from the GTX 460 but I'm not inclined to believe him as the internet disagrees. Also, what settings am I looking at? Low, mid, or high?
-
Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated. I'll wait until Arma 3 has been out for a few weeks before making any decisions. Arma 2 was pretty buggy on release and there is a chance Arma 3 will be buggy as well, which means I don't need to go running right into the game before it's patched anyway. I'll just save up and get a new video card I guess. By the way, my mainboard is an Asrock P67 Pro 3... that should handle a 680 GTX fine? The 680 is way too expensive right now but when it drops a bit I'll definitely consider it.
-
Really? I didn't know it was so dire. I also didn't think of the i5 2500k as being a mid range GPU. I can just overclock it. I don't need to have everything at max and running smooth, just running smooth and looking good. The GTX 680 looks to be around $700 over here (I'm in Korea), how about the 580? I have a small-ish monitor (at 1680x1050). If I get the 580 would I still need a PSU? I thought my PSU was fine. I have a typical setup with a single GPU which means I can't be using more than 400W. Why would I need a bigger PSU?
-
I want to be able to play at high or max settings but I think I may have a bottleneck or two in my system: i5-2500k Sandybridge Zalman ZM660-XT 660W PSU Asrock P67 Pro 3 mainboard 4x2GB (8GB) Gskill 12800 RipJaws DDR3 Nvidia GTX 460 1GB Zotac I didn't overclock my CPU yet and am not in a hurry to unless necessary. What is holding me back the most? What is the most important thing to upgrade? I was thinking my video card was weak but people tell me that the CPU matters a lot more in Arma engine games. My Arma2 performance is good enough but lags in detailed environments on maximum settings. I also can't justify spending more than $400... Thanks!

Has the warping issue been fixed?
Incognito84 replied to Incognito84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I tried joining a PR server to test this yesterday but they're all empty. Anyway, is the patch that makes the difference client side or server side? Do I need to download 1.60RC in order to see the improvement? I'm really, deeply glad that this has been fixed. It was the one thing that was really holding Arma2 back and detracting from the value of something as awesome as Arma3. Now that it's fixed, I have some really awesome experiences to look forward to! :D -
I've heard some murmurings in the Project Reality forums that the MP warping/stuttering issue has been fixed in the recent 1.6 beta. I tried to find proof on this side of the fence and unfortunately, have only been able to Google an introduction to 'Interpolation' from June of this year (soon last year) and a couple forum posts where people claim that things are worse and not improved. I'm a huge Arma2 fan and the warping has never been that much of an issue for me but it is part of the reason why there aren't many servers and the main reason why PR: Arma2's community fizzled out as soon as the mod took off. My question is: does anyone have any concrete proof that the warping issue has been solved? Is interpolation successful in MP? I looked at the 1.6 changelist and didn't see any mention of it. Thanks!
