Things I don't understand because this game is terrible at explaining anything
linnx88 replied to KorJax's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
Thanks walker! That really helped me as well even thought I knew everything about the controls aspect, I as well as most other new players get MOST confused about the game modes. It seems like ALL Arma 2 servers are running mods of some sort and then when you join, the mission, mod description, explanation is VERY poor in most cases. This clears it up for me about CTI. -
Can I get some help please "no message received"
linnx88 replied to ICE-Raver's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
No this has nothing to do with any filters. I get the same issue on all the servers and ONLY in ARMA 2. It's a game bug. I spoke to a server admin last night on one of the bigger servers and he says it happens with the game, not with the server, the server always has very low pings and is on a brand new machine in US. BI needs to fix these latencies. Also when there is red text, we can still usually speak for another 30 seconds before the server completely crashes. So if it was connection issues, how on earth would we be able to talk on a server that has no connection? -
No, it's the identity system at work. Out in the field, you have no idea if someone is hostile until you identify them. The trick in ARMA2 and especially in MP is to HOLD THE SPACE BAR and scan the area around you, you will see friendlies with names and hostiles won't have anything about their name, just class in red. That's if the Russian uniform hasn't given a clue.

Yes. Set the surrender key in controls. I haven't tried it myself yet but I think it's what you're looking for. My general observation of A2 is the same. I have A and I've been playing BI games ever since OF. I have to agree that the first few days of MP were very chaotic for me, because servers had mods installed and it wasn't explained anywhere like what you're supposed to do, etc. Playing 2 days and practicing in Armory for new players is great! I think the biggest advantage A2 has over games like BF2, COD4/5 besides the realism is...NO CHEATING!! I mean BF2, BF2142,COD4/5 all suffer from easily accessible pay-to-play cheats like rentacheat or artificialaiming. These cheats are not detectable by Punk Buster etc and ruin the MP horribly with every server constantly accusing everyone of cheating and then whole servers are forced to spectate when a cheater rages them. So I'm glad A2 has their own anti-cheat engine and does suffer from private hacks.

Well the biggest problems with 1.02 is that you guys don't even say that there are TWO versions of 1.02. 1.02.58064 <- the buggy 1.02 patch where AI is broken in SP campaign and this is the version you ship to all download stores like Direct2Drive and GamersGate and the 2nd better 1.02 version is 1.02.58134 which I was able to install only after getting a CloneCD version of the game off the web after having purchased the game at GG and not being able to patch it or play it because of the bugs. I wish BI would be a little more organized in this regard and a little more up front with their customers.

Lack of realism in official campaign
linnx88 replied to dpolwarth's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Well to be honest, if I wanted to sign for weapons and vehicles and get training, I'd get the Virtual Battlefield Space version of this "game". I like the Grand Theft Auto feel, I just wish campaign stopping bugs wouldn't be so numerous. But I agree the whole campaign design feels like a politically correct neocon wet dream... -
Same here, version 1.02.58134 the Delaying the Bear AI started working but the next missions it's still broken!! I heard that playing the missions by extracting them first and launching in the editor works but I haven't tried that myself, can someone confirm?!

Dogs of War: Shot at during opening dialogue
linnx88 replied to SuperRobotJesus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Same here. Thankfully I found the MP truly enjoyable after extensively practicing for a few hours last night in the mission editor and armory. I think BI knows that ARMA 2 is really an MP game like Battlefield 2,COD 4, WAW etc. But they really should've tried better ESPECIALLY when you KNOW they can do a good job after seeing GREAT campaigns in Flashpoint and ARMA. I guessed they thought nobody will play ARMA 2 single player these days. -
Please someone, anyone, tell me how I can end Manhattan ...

Press SHIFT + NumPad - key during the game, after that, let go off the keys and type: ENDMISSION. -
Delaying the bear, AI unresponsive
linnx88 replied to reb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Ok so apparently after doing a bit of research myself I found that the easiest solution is to get the DVD version for those who don't have the game yet and stay FAR away from the download versions. The downloaded versions come pre-patched with BI's buggy 1.02.58064 which has all of the AI problems mentioned in other threads. You cannot uninstall that patch and you cannot patch with 1.02.58134 over it. I found a solution however. I had to find a clone-cd versions online and download that, use a daemon tools + Yasu tools to hide from starforce and I simply used the CD-KEY i got from GamersGate and that worked like a charm! The Delaying the Bear mission AI started working, however the mission "Badlands" is still bugged and the AI is unresponsive just as before. After NAPA stops talking, my team mates do not respond to any of my commands even though they acknowledge them. -
No wonder I have AI problems, there are TWO VERSIONS of 1.02... Please help!
linnx88 replied to linnx88's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Well because Gamers Gate just like steam version are "download" versions which lack the usual starforce piracy circumvension found on DVD versions of the game. I tried, it gives an error message and does not install. I found a solution by downloading a clone-cd version off the web and using my good CD key and then just patched to 58134. I still have to use Yasu to get by starforce. But what can I do, 58064 AI is broken and BI hasn't issued any patches to Gamers Gate customers, i bought and paid in full for the game just like everyone else. -
Delaying the bear, AI unresponsive
linnx88 replied to reb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - OFFICIAL MISSIONS
Hmm so there's a 1.02 hotfix?!? Why doesn't BI put a sticky here about it?! I got the Gamers Gate version and it already came updated to 1.02....so i can't uninstall it. Can I install the hotfix on top of it? Because my AI does not work in Delaying the Bear nor Badlands nor Dogs of War. ---------- Post added at 08:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ---------- Ok so the only way to fix these problems it seems is for me to download a CD version somewhere, use a crack and then patch to the latest version.....Nice job BI! -
couldn't install ARMA 2 Patch 1.02 Updated (Build 58134)

Ok problem is, I have Gamers Gate version of the game which comes PRE-INSTALLED 1.02.58064. The AI is bugged, 3 missions unplayable and I can't install the latest patch now apparently? Please help! -

Hi, No wonder I had unresponsive AI in Delaying the Bear, Badlands, Dogs of War. I have the GamersGate version of the game and in the bottom right of the main menu I have version 1.02.58064 and then I read that there was a 1.02 hotfix and the most up to date version is 1.02.58134. Can a dev or someone verify if I can install the 58134 over 58064?? I can't believe BI didn't post this somewhere more visible and its hidden in the depth of the forums. :( Apparently 58134 fixes all AI problems in those missions and I would surely love to have a chance of playing them. -
For me it's even worse. I have started having unresponsive team mates since the mission "Delaying the Bear" followed by zombie team mates in "Badlands", I had to use shift+ - ENDGAME to skip because they were unplayable. I just saw Dogs of War as a mission I was supposed to play but never got to thanks to the buggy campaign. I tried MP last night and was disappointed with the absolutely lack of action in a 30 player server because of the silly mechanics. Like having to get to a certain level to control planes/tanks but then having stupid people crash the heli or buggy mp level where at a certain point our heli warped a mile and then crashed into a tree. So needless to say I was disappointed when I spent the entire hour "getting" to the action and having 1 kill and 30 deaths to show for it. And it wasn't just me, others were all complaining about the same problems. I'm a working adult so if BI can make getting to point of action a little faster, it would be greatly appreciated by all. I'm not even going to ask for a fixed single player, just allow us faster travel or less restrictive level restrictions for at least HMVVWs or tanks.
