  1. Evan Lahti: Why helicopters?

Jay Crowe, Creative Lead: Helicopters are awesome and were always an important part of our games. That aside, taking on a clear focus is something that really excites us, but–in truth–it’s also a little daunting! Combined-arms warfare has been the linchpin of the Real Virtuality engine for over a decade now. Taking one small aspect, stripping it out and completely rebuilding it with focus and attention–that’s a pretty motivating challenge.

All what I'm saying is just speculation, just ideas :)

  2. Tbf, is it just me or does it look like Take on Helicopters is using something similar to Outerra for terrain? Just from that trailer above?

Quote from PC gamer on TOH interview:

PCG: Is your approach to terrain modeling in Take On identical to that of Arma 2, to take satellite-modeled data and tweak it to your purposes?

JC: Terrain on the scale of our American and South Asian worlds has required new technology and a re-evaluation of our map-making pipeline. For our games, we’ve never attempted to make anything this extensive, but–in simple terms–sure, we still take our data and apply careful tweaks, and yea, it still takes an eye-watering amount of time to get them fit for purpose! However, we’ve got some interesting new features in progress–in terms of the actual terrain and the human and physical ‘environment’ more generally – that we’re really looking forward to being able to showcase as development continues. Terrain normal-mapping alone is an exciting new feature currently under development, which has the capacity to change the way our environments “feel.â€

Could ArmA benefit form this "New technology"?

    EDIT:

    And also:

PCG: Is Bohemia working on any engine improvements/optimizations to the Arma engine for it to be tailored for Take On?

JC: Nailing down the helicopter experience demands a lot of work in terms of adding brand new features, refining more familiar ones, and optimising the game for flying helicopters. The buzzwords circulating around our studios alone goes some way to reveal the extent of the work at hand: picture in picture, increased view- and draw-distance, interactive cockpits, sling loads. But perhaps we’ve said enough for now! In fact, another cool aspect of Take On project is that it’ll allow us to look at improving various aspects of our simulation technology that could potentially be integrated into some possible future games with a much larger scope.

  3. If I could just throw my ideas into the ring :)

Looking back at the first "hack":

This is no stupid game! You're dealing with p3R51An 8lacK Hat5 8oy5 and every 42 hours we'll give you something to keep you aware. Keep you wondering. We know you found Spukayev's files back in 2009, and that they bought you a way out of that mess. But that's not everything the old crook had been hiding. The stash is still buried there.

    On AAN, its says:

According to Bohemia Interactive marketing materials, the company creates simulation terrain according to real terrain data. So the speculation is that the hacker's claims and photos point to a real location. Why would the hackers point to such a place remains unknown. We are not able to locate the spot nor send an investigator to find out the truth.

My thoughs are that there has been a lot of discussion on the net about how the devs of Outerra were approached by a "milsim" company about developing a new game (http://www.battle.no/?section=news&nid=606)

If you read what it ways on the Outerra website:

3D planetary engine for seamless planet rendering from space down to the surface. Can use arbitrary resolution of elevation data, refining it to centimeter resolution using fractal algorithms.

Unlimited visibility, progressive download of data, procedural content generation.

Integrated vehicle and aircraft physics engines.

    and

An integrated flight dynamics model library (JSBSim) provides fully configurable physics and math model defining the movement of aircraft or rocket under various natural or applied forces and moments.

The engine also handles complex vehicle physics and its interactions with the terrain. It makes an ideal platform for integrating the ground and aerial vehicle simulation into one solution, while also allowing to have the whole world available in it.

Matches with what BI were saying about the "hackers" - "the company creates simulation terrain according to real terrain data"

If you have a search around the web there is huge amounts of debate and talk about whether Outerra is going to be as Arma 3's engine.

More info for you guys to make your mind up:

and for the people thinking about underground/underwater hints:

Just my thoughts, probably wrong, but meh :)

  4. You don't know me nor have any comprehension of what I do or do not understand. I am not attacking Crash personally however his dummy spit throwing in a mod that we had stood behind for over a year, as well as just turning his back on the people who had supported him showed a lack of character IMO. I'm only bitter about the manner in which he threw in the towel, it's a game mate and nothing more. I suggest you refrain from making personal attacks in violation of the code of conduct. I was stating a fact from first hand knowledge and not in any way being bitter or attacking anyone, if you don't like it then don't read it.
