  1. Check if you have set the project preferences, especially the location / folder where to store the textures (tut\tut\data) ---------- Post added at 15:35 ---------- Previous post was at 15:33 ---------- And also check if the application / visitor has rights to write into that folder, otherwise it cannot save the textures.

Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?

Well thats my point, its unclear what OA actually is, a new game or just an expansion pack. It seems BIS went for a bit of both and thus causing some misconceptions. Atleast i didnt / dont expect they should upgrade the content, the stuff integrates for me as told by BIS...

Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?

Meaning: Standalone expansion pack gives the wrong idea what to expect from it / what it brings. When a new game comes out, you're not going to ask (some even "demand") that the stuff from the previous game should be upgraded to the new game standards and features let alone for free. Maybe i missed it, but i dont recall seeing such questions arise, when A2 came out, towards the content of A1. OA is sort of a new game...

Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?

"OA fully integrates with the original Arma 2 for unmatched warfare simulation" does not equal "The original Arma 2 fully integrates with OA for unmatched warfare simulation" I dont mind the difference in Arma2 and OA, imo most of the stuff that is "missing" like FLIR does not enhance gameplay greatly. I do think the term "standalone expansion pack" is chosen wrongly, either its standalone or an expansion pack. I would have marketed it as a standalone game in which arma2 stuff can be used and thus rewarding loyal customers that have bought the previous game arma2, making their OA game even better. Now its a bit in between...

    More Opfor for DLC?

Indeed, any upcoming confilct involving atleast the "Blufor" side (USA, Europe etc) that comes close to being ballanced either ricochets or the involving parties would go "all in" straight away. The conflict will either not happen or be over quite soon (with not much left to fight over...) The last more or less conventional war (Invasion of Iraq) was over "in a matter of minutes" and wasnt ballanced at all. The last decades showed us that the only way to successfully fight Blufor is a guerilla type war (Vietnam, Afghanistan etc). More ballanced and more conventional conflicts have participants that arent that technically advanced and thus lack the real firepower (nuclear bombs for example) to make it "worth" to engage each other in a "big" fight. There's no opposing force that will get into a "real" war (more or less ballanced / conventional) facing Blufor without getting nuclear. So any opfor we come up with involving Blufor will be an unrealistic conflict. Only way is either be unrealistic, step away from blufor or continue the unconventional theme (still lots of intersting conflicts are remaining). Reffering to thread starter, i think to get the "Oh-oh, NOW we're in some trouble" thought, you need to switch sides, become insurgent! :) Playing low-tech & outnumbered really gives the thrills, require good teamwork and gives great entertainment.

    More Opfor for DLC?

Shri Lanka government vs Tamil Tigers In the above conflict that has just been "solved", Shri Lanka deployed LRRP teams to fight the Tigers at their own game in their jungle, like Vietnam more or less: http://lrrp2.wordpress.com/
  7. What about a Dutch expansion pack? That would force them to build drug dealers in Amsterdam, windmills, wooden shoes, lots and lots of bicycles and white and black cows. Then add a nice flat rainy map with lots a highways and traffic jams. Hehe, now on a serious note. I think you can apply your mod idea on almost any country. I guess you're Swedish witch makes it pretty obvious to opt for such an expansion pack... I think fighting in stockholm would be pretty much the same as fighting in any other big modern city, nothing really special imo. Besides that FDF already has the finnish defense mod which in my eyes would be more or less the same. :D Lately i often hear ideas to bring back the russians, and also the desire for a winter themed map. Maybe we should take the battlefield there, something like Syberia where a mix of Russians, NATO and insurgent forces can fight each other over nuclear left overs from the cold war.
  8. If i understand correctly, "micro-terrain" refers to a map with a very small cell size (1m for example) that allows for a high degree of terrain detail, like potholes, ditches etc, that are ideal to be used as cover for example in infantry combat. Does this increased map detail have a big impact on performance and what about the bigger maps, where such a cell size result in pretty heavy heightmaps?
  9. Its not yet on the map, next update will bring caves. :)

    People with i7's

Forgot to mention that my i7 runs at 3.6ghz instead of the default 2.6 and both the 5850's run at 5870 speeds. That might give some performance difference.
  11. Looks good. I miss the beaches though, the grass goes into the sea.
  12. Hehe, tnx How i made the map... a bit of oozy woozy i guess :D I think though that the map is a love or hate kinda thing, as its on an "extreme" end of the map spectrum. I always missed real mountains, remote and rugged. Thats what i wanted to create, not a map that has a bit of everything but is dedicated to a specific terrain. It seems a few others where missing this aswell, but i assume a far bigger group isn't appealed at all by it. I wanted to see if i could get some form of caves on the map. and i think it came out pretty decent. It ain't a cave like we saw in Oblivion though :D Unfortunally, the game engine applies light indoors the same as outdoors, making the inside of the cave rather bright in daylight. I would have like to see the caves being dark and moisterious :D The caves look best midnight, especially with a nice camping fire as you can see on the pic.
  13. Come on people, the guy said "we" instead of "i" in the wrong sentence, he acknowledged and changed it. Problem solved, nothing to see, lets move on... To comment on Irons list, i dont see any value in most points on the list apart from the CQB thing that i think the game is really missing. Outdoor battles is where the game really shines, indoor it becomes rather difficult. I think the avatar should move more fluid, with some build in mechanisms to do so. Like lowering the weapon when theres no rome for raised, raise the weapon when pointed out of a window and trying to look down. Also the scale of the houses make it difficult, they are on the very small side... Which makes moving inside them, especially with more people, very uncomfortable.

Fraps report around 45 in the center or facing the center of Zargabad, when moving away from it it goes up to 60 (capped by vsync). This is for an i7 + 2x 5850.
  15. Takistanian militia taking shelter :)
  16. When the shit hits the fan, i dont think many people will miss the sound of flowing water, atleast i wouldnt. :) I would trade my stalking howling monkeys for a silent river anyday :D
  17. I propably missunderstood your intitial question, maybe you asked me where i placed that outpost as seen in the video? The outpost was located north east of Jool Hul on peak 2345. Between some rocks and trees is some "flattish" ground, it also has a nice overview on the town and its surroundings.
  18. Pleas share so we all could have a look and see what's going on... If it only was merely for learning purposes. Working or not, it might give good ideas.
  19. Not sure where the mission maker (Intruder) created the base, from what i've seen in the video it looks very good! Since it takes place around the ridge in the North East i guess it must be somewhere near Jool Hul or Garuntha. Maybe Intruder could tell us more?
  20. Hey there, We at 6th sense might have something to offer: We aim to bring you endless fun, immersion and a great coop experience. We try to play our games in a most real-way, while upholding playability, such as: no re-spawn, no cross-hair, and veteran difficulty. We don’t push realism to a level where playability is compromised and fun is lost. We play organised and "semi" serious, we use ACE and ACRE and each deployment / mission is unique. We mostly have people from EU, but also from the USA and even from Australia. Our main gaming evening is on sunday 20.00 cet, but you can appoint to play on every other evening aswell. Our USA friends have often games on USA times aswell. Check out the youtube pages of our embedded reporters to see how we play: http://www.youtube.com/user/Briggsil http://www.youtube.com/user/PhillyB702 http://www.youtube.com/user/OllemTube http://www.youtube.com/user/MRLEGEND102 http://www.youtube.com/crazyofengland Check this page how to join our community: http://6thsense.eu/arma2_join Hope to see you soon on the battlefield! Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?

Like the poll indicates, when it's free most people ofcourse want it... It still needs time and effort to realise the upgrade and have a2 catch up with OA, meaning less time and effort will be put into new and future stuff. BIS like most other companies have a certain ammount of time and manpower to deploy, its just a matter of choise where you want them to work on. Personnally i have never understood the great need for specific army models, they all do the same, just look a tiny different. Vehicles and weapons i can understand to some extent, but if one vehicle has flir and the other not, i certainly wouldn't miss it and i'm more then fine with it as is. I prefer to be able to buy a new expansion pack in the coming year like OA, a substantial step forward adding great and new stuff on a higher level that really expand and change the game rather then have more of almost the same...
  22. I set up missions pretty often at 6th sense for our sunday eve's, mainly coop but sometimes a pvp element in it. For this map i can think of some missions in the blufor vs insurgent theme. It needs some ballancing towards the insurgents becuase of lack of tech and firepower. This could be done in terms of uneven teams, like a small high tech sf vs big group of low tech insurgents: Precious cargo recovery Where the SF guys have night vision and need to assault, the insurgents have just the (full) moon light but the advantage of the defence, drop in some fog lower the engagement range to ballance the low tech / poor vis of the insurgents. Insurgents have taken down a blackhawk and got their hands on several very powerfull missiles. A small SF force is send to retrieve or destroy this precious cargo. Or real guerilla style where the insurgents "harrass" the blufor team while blufor tries to reach a target within a certain time, here the insurgents can hit & run and try to slow down the blufor without the full fight. Or blufor needs to protect / defend multiple objectives for a specfic time while the insurgents can focus on a specific or multiple targets. Anyway, just some quick thoughts, maybe it gives you an idea :) Edit: Or if you have enough players, replay operation Anaconda or something like that. Drop a big team of insurgents on the big mountain and let them dig in (some nests etc here and there) and have the Blufor team assault the mountain and push them off the map.
  23. Tnx, its been entirely my pleasure to make and provide it :) Also tnx for the bug report, i think there might be a few of these around, i just found a house in Skandahar where the ground comes through at one side and it floats a teeny weeny bit on the other side. Will fix these in the next update!
  24. Tnx for prepping a mission on this map. Our missions are always created on the fly, we never play orginal or user missions, however i'm very curious to see what you "cooked" here for us. Need to check that out :) --- So far i didnt planned it to have one nor two airfields or big bases, just a FOB and possibly a couple of COP's. The map was intended to be remote and barren and an army vs insurgency kinda thing, without a specific gametype in mind. However that doesnt mean i will not consider specific changes for certain game types. I never played Domination, please tell me what it is and what would be the bare minimum that needs to be done / added to play it on this map?
  25. I'm sure there must be some audio settings that can be applied to a specific class, like with the custom lightning, weather or reflections for maps, could be terribly wrong though as i'm not that experienced with map configs. Why not release an intermediate version without all the custom sounds and sort the custom stuff out from there? I think we know the monkey squeels far too well now... :)
