Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

I have a stock i7 920 @2.67 - 4GB RAM and a 1 GB GTS250 - i cannot overclock as I have a locked BIOS. It seems that a new card is all I can buy to improve performance which is quite adequate to be fair. In a firefight I get mid 30s framerate. I was under the impression that framesrate and performance is mainly down to the CPU in this game ? Would I gain much from buying a mid to high end card for £200 over my current one given that my CPU will stay the same ? ....thanks -
I find ace a drag on performance - many people have told me I should only get a 2/3 fps hit. This was the case with ARMA2 ACE... With OA1.9 I get a steady 8-10 gps decrease. Too many scripts going on and firefights are extremely voluminous to the point of making performance suffer.

ARMA was released in 2007 (in uk) ARMA2 - 2009 Arrowhead (ARMA 2.5 to me ) - 2010 ARMA3 - 2012 ? Yes, a purely speculative thread but progress doesn't stop! It is not unrealistic to assume we will get a new ARMA next year or are we maybe looking at a OFP-ARMA wait ? This board is rather unique in that the devs themselves are intimately involved in the post release community. Anything to stop them admitting they might be brainstorming ideas for A3 ? .

Pointless ? - its too speculate on a possible release - if it gets locked, so be it.

I don't thinks Voids point of view should be taken too heart. If you were brought up in such a militaristic society with the history, tensions and threats that Israel has. Anything other than an army based view on life would be downright strange. ...

My OP was too ascertain whether people had had preconceived ideas of theirs changed by playing OFP/ARMA . The reality of war (randomness) at play, and the fact that it really only takes one bullet to end everything for you. Other more practical issues show themselves in BIS games. Navigation can be quite challenging - this aspect of war is stressed and reminds me of how much soldiers rely on this 'simple' aspect to prevail in battle. With OFP's lack of cover, I feel very vulnerable..slightly less so in ARMA2 . Compared to traditional corridor shooters where you can retreat around a corner - with multiple enemies firing at you, just what can you do ? retreat against orders ? or move and risk being caught in the open ?, BIS games would (if i seriously considered the army) make me question my own character and wonder 'just what the hell would I do ' in 'x' situation. I am sure there is a percentage of people who in their impressionable years , back in the 90s played games that, if not encouraged at least didn't discourage them to sign up. BIS games cant help but show the reality of combat in a more realistic light and make you really think - 'This is what im getting myself into'... ......................................................

Il be brief, I had made a similar past ages ago and didn't get many replies. Firing at a target 400 / 450 m away , it appears, from dust appearing that it takes around a second for the round to travel this far. Although not schooled in such things, with a muzzle velocity of 900m/s from a m16 , even accounting for drag , surely this is a little slow? Arma2 vanilla 1.05 if it makes a difference.

froggy - pray tell , new engine ?...or are you speculating
-
Fab - yes slightly different point that. I was referring to actual hits and whether calculations of bullet velocity were accurate.
-
thank you maturin - really end of topic now ;) - i had never read it was actually down to delayed dust and good to hear the AI react to the 'actual' hit.
-
I really hate to drag this topic up again but I dont believe that this velocity problem was 'solved' . The above quote is referring to what flight times should be for 5.56 mm rounds. The reaction of the dust script ( what I am going on to measure this time ) definataly shows a slower speed. Is there a delay in the dust script of where a round hit ?, if so , will AI enemy 'respond' top being hit when they should ? .....

I enjoy playing the 'auto generated' SECOP missions - with the target mission, as the name suggests, I go to an area and kill whatever is there. With the latest patches they are particularly challenging as the AI now engage from a fair way away, it is quite easy to die in these from a single bullet. Why is in the combat mission (ie patrol for an hour ) I ONLY get wounded and cannot die straight away ? I end up writhing on the ground where I would have preferred to die and change to another of my team. Has anyone else noticed this, I have extended armor off... ..

SECOPS - COMBAT/TARGET - wounded only ?

Im am confused over the role of 'modules' . All my men had the medic star symbol over them when I was shot. Anyway to get rid of it ? -

ACE sound module, thats the only one selected... -
I often play the 'dynamic' tour missions 04 'Combat' and set patrol length for an hour. Not sure if the following occurs in the campaign or in the Editor but some of my men will - when threatened, lie down and try top engage the enemy. So far fine, but when the enemy has moved off , or just still in the area far away they will not disengage , even with an order and will not stand up and return to formation. I have patched to 1.59 and 1.09 - and found this to be the case with earlier patches as well. Is there a solution to this ? .

Disengage targets and follow me soldier !

Ah ha - that rings a bell Joe - I recall 1 swiveling in his belly with a pistol. Cheers -
The reason this game is not more popular is indicative of the entire entertainment world out there. Auto tuned artists - popcorn throwaway Harry bollocks ? And COD 'head shot' esque games and the associated mega bucks they ALL bring. In other words - the middle ground PAYS ! - offend no one - appeal to the indifferent , the casual ...the pick up and play crowd and you will reap riches . Political party ? - do what the Tories do ...appeal to middle ground. Take a look at the ' golden age' the 80s 90s - Music film and video games - real ...real innovation , risks taken , legends made - the formula for success is now out there and I'm afraid it's trying to get your mother to do stepups sponsored by Nintendo - the hardcore don't stand a chance ; )

Hmm I believe I did - but thanks will try again.. -
You can 'fall' into a prone position by pressing Z while running, you should enter it straight away. ...................

I am not sure how ARMA OA animations are captured, mo-capped ? I know BIS have a mo-cap studio. On the whole animations are great, perhaps they could be a little more fluid from one type of movement to another but the distracting issue for me is leg speed. Take a look at anyone running and then compare to OA/ ARMA, its as if the ARMA world has gravity set to 80% of real world strength causing a slightly 'floaty' look to running. Its either that or legs are shown stretching just a little too much for the distance their covering that make movement a little strange looking. All that considered, its a minor gripe in a fantastic game... ...
